  • Cloughoughter Castle is a ruined circular castle built around the year 1200 on a small island in Lough Oughter in County Cavan, Ireland. After the Plantation of Ulster, the colonization of Northern Ireland by Great Britain, the castle was used by the Irish as a fortification against the Cronwelliam forced, who bombard the castle with cannons and breached the wall in 1653.
