    I call the "reflections" a Quick write is something I learned in an AVID training. Like you said it is amazing how it helps build relationships with the students, to the extent, that they will start opening up sharing with you what is going on in their lives, Thank you for the video!!

    HI Amanda this is perfect timing - literally my first day of school next week (and I'm starting in a new school, second year of teaching English lit). I was just looking for ideas like this! One idea that I've done as a participant that I'd like to try with my students is getting them to order themselves in silence from youngest to oldest / most siblings to least siblings / height / eye colour. Thank you so much for the quality of your content and the charisma you project - they give me something to aspire to!

    Great tips, thanks! I usually have them introduce themselves shortly, and then we play 1 truth 1 lie, where student would say two things, and the class should guess which fact about them was true, and which one was a lie. I teach music, so they usually talk in terms of playing an instrument, or doing other forms of art.

    Hi Amanda. I teach music PreK - 8th grade. As an icebreaker I do a theater game called Name Pose. We make a circle and then each student will say their name and simultaneously strike a pose. In response the class will say the persons name and strike their pose. If a student is too shy or can't think of a pose, then they can clap their hands as they say their name. PreK has to practice the simultaneity, but this works for PreK-5 well. 6th -8th grade seem to self-conscious to participate so I'm going to try your ice breakers for middle schoolers. Thanks sooo much!

    Hi Amanda! I'm a second year SpEd teacher and a first year ESY teacher. My students range in age from K-2nd. This was very helpful. I think I will be able to use the 'speed dating' game with them. They won't have to write anything and the questions will be fun and engaging! Great idea!

      I've been meaning to do an updated version of this video! So crazy how much one year has changed, For sure, "speed dating" idea can be a few minutes in break out rooms and a different person every time. The others I have to think about a little more

    • @namrataganneri8865
      @namrataganneri8865 2 года назад

      I did not quite understand the 30 second rule and rotation-do the students move after 1 question till 30 seconds are up? And then another round begins? And are all the (pre-prepared) questions handed over right in the beginning?

    • @amandaros3
      @amandaros3  3 года назад +21

      You're offended by absolutely nothing. It's the same as when people say they don't like vegetables, or don't like sweets or any other type of food. It's a conversation starter like anything else. I also didn't call the students gross. Stop implying things that weren't said

    • @user-mc7bn8jp4w
      @user-mc7bn8jp4w 9 месяцев назад +2

      And she didn't say "gross," it was a student responding to a comment made by another student. And yes, students will make those kinda comments; it's life.
