I really appreciate that you decided to talk about the RTV silicone issue. I found some silicone on my dipstick and took pictures and video of it I'm at 6549 miles and have an appointment with the dealer for Monday, August 15, and I've already talked to Subaru customer service. As a side note, customer service told me that they need more people to complain about silicone in order for them to issue a recall so if you have this problem please call them or else they wont take action. There are reports that the 22 WRX also is having this issue.
You bet! That’s no fun, I’d definitely have them look into it, but yea they’re starting to raise the issue to bring attention to the higher ups, and yea I’d imagine the 22’ wrx would be using the same method as they probably are across all their products haha
I just got my 2023 GR86 4 days ago and so far I'm absolutely loving it. I have been a little scared of the whole RTV sealant issue but if anything happens I'm under warranty so that's good. Still wanna see about getting that excess sealant out of it and hopefully the dealer could do it for me. This is also my first manual car so it's a little difficult to really get the hang of it, but I'm learning!
It’s a great car for sure! And agreed on the warranty, definitely adds some peace of mind, you’ll get the hang of the manual! It’s worth it in the end!
if you don't race your car hard and don't redline the car all the time like crazy, the car will last long. See, i drive my leisure and baby it. it will last because i maintain it. This channel talking about hard core track racing. Any car you race will have oil engine starvation because of the G force!
It’s dope seeing someone around my age living their dream car life. I’m hoping to get one of these by next year and your vids are really motivating to grind for it. Look forward to what you’ll continue to do with the BRZ man. Glad I came across your channel 🔥
I luv the BRZ, but the RTV issue and the engineering side of me would not let me proceed with my order for the 2023. It was officially canceled today, so there will be an xtra one on the market. I wish all of you the best of luck with your BRZ/GR86. Again, thanks for the great video.
I have had my mt brz for 8 months and my opinion SYNCS with yours. You know this car just like I do. Here's another amazing ext nobody comments. THE BACK UP LIGHTS. Look at them. Their beautiful. Change the bulbs to 15 watt leds and you will get noticed when you backup. Please keep your fans up to date with silicone issues. And It's okay to slack off...a little.
they should do a recall asap. i called my dealership (canada) and bc this isnt covered under warranty, they are charging $1.1k CAD for a check which is insane. theyre just playing dumb at this point
I went to the dealer on the silicone issue. Spoke to the service manager. Goobly Goop conversation stating if anything happened, it was probably because of owner abuse. I tried to explain to him how the issue isn't owner related but went in one ear and out the other. He said I shouldn't expect any action from Subaru as he hadn't even heard of any issues. He may have been speaking from not knowing anything. Wasn't impressed and honestly, disappointed as I expected more from Subaru, kind of like when I was walking up to the front door of the dealership and there were three ladies from the accounting department who were standing about 3 feet from the front door, all of them smoking. Nothing worse than breathing in somebody else's cigarette smoke at a car dealership supposedly known for leading the green movement. On the front end of of when I was buying the car, I was really impressed but at this point, I've put the car up for sale. I had silicone issues with a 96 Corvette at 8690 miles, three years later where the silicone dried up and oil started to drip from the oil pan. Not going through that again. Not sure what I'll buy next. PS-You're doing well with your channel. It's always challenging when first starting out but the rewards will play out. Regardless, I'll keep following you because I like your content.
That’s the bad dearly, I would take it somewhere else and address the concern since it’s on the warranty. “I worked in service” as soon they see the extra silicone in there they have to warranty it.
@@blackstang7378 The guy stated they don't do anything preemptively, I'll have to wait until something happens. His advice is if the oil light come on, immediately turn off the engine and have towed, at my cost to the dealership. Then, they'll look into it and send it to an independent third party for evaluation. he said it could take months to get a ruling.
That’s quite the experience, I’d be pretty upset as well, subaru is known to have a family friendly staff but that is just not right, glad it’s not like that with my dealerships but I’d understand wanting to switch as well, there is a lot of other options coming up that I’m sure you’d love and thanks for your continued support! It means a lot!
Great video! Dove my 2020 86 for 18k miles and LOVED it. Ive had my 22 GR86 for 3 weeks and LOVE IT. Like the first gen, this car makes driving fun. I did add a supercharger to my 2020 but at this point have no plans to add one to the GR when one becomes available.
Im a fellow GR86 owner, can you do a video on your thoughts about the engines blowing from oil starvation and some dealers that are breaking warranty contract. Theres an 86 that left Orange County Ca dealer after 4 months of repair, engine blows on the way home, car gets engulfed in flames. I do understand its a small percentage compared to the grand sales of this amazing machine. Great vids btw, keep it up
That would be something interesting to cover, I’ve been hearing quite a bit of instances on it, I’d have to make sure I have a full understanding of all the situations before I make a video on it but thanks for the feedback and continued support!
Can't wait to own this car 🤩😎 idc what the haters say about it being "slow" there's no way it is slower than my 2012 camry lol plus the aftermarket is endless
Cool channel. Just bought a used 22 BRZ. Do you know if the there is an oil percentage reminder that i can check on the dash? I been reading the manual and checking the settings but couldn't find out. I just wanted to see when should i changed the oil since im the second owner.. TIA
I have a Kia GTS 22, I’d love to win new wheels. I subbed because I loved your personality from Cameron Hills channel. When he featured you, I thought you were pretty dope
Still feels slow to me, I don't want much just like 60 more HP . I love it, it's super fun but it still feels like it's begging for just a tiny bit more. Get me to that 1hp per 10 lbs area and I'd be so fuckin stoked.
I have a 2022 BRZ Limited with 3000 miles. I drive 130 miles 5x per week.. about 650 mi per week.. with reliability a concern, I have started looking into the Veloster N
At 20k miles, the RTV has found its way off the seams of the cylinder block. Within the next 5K miles and a series of high rpm bursts in a variety of gears, the slug-sized pieces of RTV will make their way into the oil pick up where they combine like 10 families of rats trying to get into the sewer pipe.

“Slow” comments are so ignorant. every car does 75mph but only a few can do it in a twisty and come out of it. You dont need or want 500hp to do that.
You know it! Definitely a different purpose for every car!
I’ve been about 1-2k miles behind you since December lol nice video

Very good informative video. Who needs backseats for a sports car?! Its a 2-seater sportscar.
That’s the move! Haha
I asked the local repair department at the dealership and they claimed to have no knowledge of the RTV issue.
The dip stick will not show you anything. Cut open oil filter. You may want to install a Oil P gauge.

Any problems so far?
Boroscope wont see the drain unless the pan is dropped
True but you can see around the pan and look for signs of extra silicone I believe
@@B_levan that’s true! I would be more paranoid about the drain and the timing area though 😅

Are you working with streethunter for the widebody for sema? seems a little sus, with the streethunter widebody debut at sema hmmm...... :/
I'm waiting delivery of mine still.
Is there a way to see the mesh filter with a boroscope? I haven't found a video of it working yet.
You’re gonna love it! I don’t believe so just inside the oil pan, you should have the dealer check it out at arrival
Do you have any advice on asking the dealership about RTV/oil starvation issues?
imo the wing is rice but that’s my opinion.
