I like the idea of fav. Dio songs better than albums. There's more parody. So. Here we go. My ten.
1. Don't Talk to Strangers (It has everything. This one song sums up Dio perfectly)
2. I Speed at Night (Appice's snare drum w/ Bain's bass is so amazing!)
3. Dream Evil (This song/record is so cool. Love Craig's distortion. Very Blackmore)
4. Why Are They Watching Me (Rowan is such a soulful shredder. This album is cool "blues metal")
5. Shame on the Night (Excellent closer to Holy Diver. I love the pace of this song)
6. Caught in the Middle (More of a classic rock song. Dio's voice is so smooth)
7. Shivers (What a groove! Craig's solo is one of my favs.)
8. Egypt (Epic! Dio closes another masterpiece of an album)
9. Killing the Dragon (When I put this cd on the day it came out, I was like: DIO's BACK!)
10. Jesus, Mary, and the Holy Ghost. (Tracy G does some things I've NEVER heard on guitar. What a riff!)
Dio and Rainbow(with Dio) were my first bands I listened in Hard rock/Metal. Rainbow Rising is still in my top 5 favourite album of all time, the song Stargazer is so good!
So glad I got to see Dio live before he past away. It was on the Heaven and Hell tour, which was essentially Black Sabbath but they had to change their name due to a dispute with Ozzy.

I've watched the KD/MF and Dio ranking videos. Like that you do it from your own personal preference.
"Overlove" is perhaps my #1 favorite from Dio. Few guitar riffs are as cool as that. A truly terrific song.
Yes, that riff has a ‘Hot For Teacher’ feel about it, and even channels some Rockabilly influences.
Totally agree with your order (almost). I personally have Last In Line #1 and Dream Evil #2. Last In Line is my go to Dio album and The title track is my favorite Dio song by a Looooooonnng Mile.
Dream Evil totally underrated but it would still only be my #2. Last In Line is still my favourite.
Great to hear a different view point from you. I felt the Dio debut was the best of the Viv Campbell era. It went slightly off the boil for on ‘Last In Line’ & by ‘Sacred Heart’, it was a case of diminishing returns. Yes, ‘The Last In Line’ is a one the the very best. All these years on it’s the deeper cuts lIke ‘Eat Your Heart Out’ that I return to. ‘Like A Beat Of A Heart’ is a re-heat of ‘Straight Through The Heart’. Good to see ‘Strange Highways’ getting some love.

The Last in Line and Holy Diver have been talked to death. It's great to see Strange Highways getting some love. Tracy G shines and his chops are at least equal to any of Dio's axe-slingers. There are memorable riffs and catchy melodies. The production is top-notch. Vinny Appice is always great. And the addition of Jeff Pilson on bass and backing vocals launched Dio to the next level. Holy Diver and Last in Line tie for first on my list of personal favorites. Strange Highways is second.

Edit: Yeah it's a great album. I can't really put it ahead of Holy Diver and The Last in Line for me personally though.

Controversial. “Dream Evil” at #1! I haven’t listened to this album in probably 30 years so I went back and listened to it again. I will say It is better than I remember. I would say rotate “Dream Evil” to 3. I agree with “Last In Line” being a better album than “Holy Diver” even though it doesn’t get as much praise. Much like I find “Diary of a Madman” to be better overall than “Blizzard of Oz”.

The Last in Line is probably my favourite, followed closely by Dream Evil which was far and away my favourite album of 1987. I’m old enough remember so clearly the way critics in Kerrang and Metal Hammer absolutely mauled everything Dio did from Sacred Heart onward through to Lock Up the Wolves. They said he was boring and out of touch… that the themes of dragons and rainbows were old fashioned, and generally compared Dio poorly to to newer bands like Metallica and Slayer. Dio’s appearance at Donington in 87 was slated as stodgy and boring. It really seemed like the rock press were determined to bury the band. Amazing how things turned full circle and Ronnie is now regarded as one of the true greats. Just goes to show that critics know fuck all!

Weird Take: I hate that song Sunset Superman, it's too repetitive. I bet I'm alone on this one but yeah.
Edit: So I listened to Dream Evil again and I gotta say that I was tripping! It's a great song. I love the verses and the guitar solo. Sure it's a bit repetitive at the end, but it's still a great song!
Am I the only one that thinks that Quest For Metal videos need to be louder? There are times I can barely hear his voice hahaha

Sacred Heart as an album is tired and boring. The production is crap. Tinny and brittle. Viv's distortion is so bad. Shoot Shoot is a horrid song.
