    Awhile ago, I made a video on upgrading your bandwidth with ‪@PaesslerGmbH‬'s PRTG.
    I got so many comments asking about how to use it, that I decided to make a mini-series on how to get started with PRTG.
    Thanks for watching, and as always, Keep IT Simple!

    PRTG is such a good Tool. At my company, we use 2 different PRTG Clusters and I can say that this tool is so good, it's so intuitive. I'm glad you are making these videos, because I can further my knowledge. Thanks Jeremy!

    Amazing to see more and more PRTG Tutorials made by you Jeremy ;)
    1st time I heard about this program was like 6 years ago during my CBT CCNA.... since then, I have 5000+probes running!

      PRTG is one of the "fun things" you could just play with and make better and more valuable...sadly, we often don't make the time to do it - I figured doing these videos during the COVID downtime might inspire some folks to PRTG greatness :-)

      @@KeepingITSimple it would be cool for you to show us how to set up maps, or export to other applications that have a better UI for mapping - I know PRTG has a few preferred vendors. Also would be cool to show us how to get stats from the UDM Pro since it dosnt support SNMP (so dumb..).

    You are a blessing sir. This is what im talking about! Theres so much contextual knowledge in these videos that far outweighs the “how to” in value. Thank you for taking the time to do these.

    Great vid Jeremy! The internal probe on a per site basis seems more secure aswell when using the cloud solution... would end up having a DMZ at each site otherwise :)
    ...Paranoid much?... Haha

    I love PRTG for my home on the 50 sensor license but one device my Dell R730 took up 1/2 the sensors almost ugh! Wish they had a lower price license or a per sensor option.

    Maybe installation is simple, yet the site wouldn't let me download if I type in a gmail address (which is what I use...) any suggestions? Thanks and thank you for the clear, flowing, high quality video tutorials!

    That first case doesn't make sense, How would the remote probe inside the house behind the firewall and ISP be able to report back that the FW is INS if the ISP is OOS?

  • @davepete9537

    Is there a trial/student instance of PRTG one can get to get some hands-on experience?

  • @YouTubeUserToo
    @YouTubeUserToo 2 года назад

    Disagree that you have to monitor a firewall's external interface to determine up/down status. Also, having a firewall respond to anything externally is a sercurity concern.

    Nice video as always. I mean it's Jeremy. Come one. Question: Why use auto-discover and not just SNMP?

  • @gdr1174
    @gdr1174 3 года назад

    I see they also offer a hosted monitoring solution... I assume this also requires a probe behind the firewall to put the eyes on the inside?

    What does PRTG use to have secure communication with the remote probe? Does it encrypt the traffic or make some kind of tunnel?

    Hi Jeremy. Thank you for this incredible series of PRTG videos. Any chance you can talk more about your cloud PRTG? Is that the PRTG cloud monitoring service or are you using your own cloud provider to host it?

    what is the use of the host probe is the remote probe is doing all of the monitoring Confused

  • @YeshwanthSimhadri

    a very basic question - im new , so please mind my ignorance. When you copy pasted the URL of PRTG on the remote machine, how do i know my PRTG URL, so that i can install the remote probe

    thank you what does his compete with on the cisco side

    • @jmhm17
      @jmhm17 4 года назад

      Cisco does not really have a like for like solution. However DNA Center would be the closest thing but really not even in the same ballpark - its much much more advanced, and SNMP monitoring is like .2% of its ability. Cisco does not, and will never accommodate SOHO well. Their last effort was when they bought Meraki.. Being that everything is license, and cloud based with Cisco they tend not to be very vendor neutral, so having software to monitor anything and everything without an incentive to buy Cisco hardware is not how Cisco operates. As much as us network people love Cisco, we hate it just as much lol..

    PRTG is convoluted and dated. Use LibreNMS for home or SolarWinds NPM/Orion suite for enterprise.
