The composition of this military march first caught my attention in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989). When I looked it up, it didn't occur to me that this was written in 1866 after the Battle of Königgrätz. This march composition was masterfully composed by Johann Gottfried Piefke!
To commemorate a masterful victory! Outnumbered nearly 2-1 initially, the Prussians used terrain and tactics to hold the Austrians at bay until the timely arrival of the crown Prince. I imagine the battle in that small forest rivaled the battle of the Wilderness (American Civil War) in savagery, bloodshed and confusion.

These marches are historic PRUSSIAN marches, but some of the comments result in the post being deleted. Don't forget that being German is not being a Nazi. Not every German was a Nazi. Far from it. Being German should be a special thing because of the culture, ancestry and those who make the bad comments make me wonder if they ever visited there. My grandfather was German, and I am deeply honored by the man he was in his immigrant American story. I am also honored by his love for me when I was born. It was tragic he died a few months after my birth. Germany was a wonderful country, and I was treated like any other fellow German when I visited. I want to go back again because of how I felt there. I will always love the German people for making me feel I belonged. You can still see the effects of WWII in Berlin. As for this march, it is misrepresented by Stephen Spielberg as a Nazi march in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. It is known as the Piefke Marsch after the Battle of Koeniggraetz in 1866. This was Hitler's favorite military march and that is why the Nazis used it.

nice to see thats the foreigners like our german military parade music more then our own.
Ja!
Remembering my old friend and teacher Dieter Fuss, 1917-1998. Served with honour in the Afrika Korps, Brought to Britain, he married a local girl and stayed on as a teacher. Loved by all that knew him, especially by those ex-servicemen to whom he was a great friend, my dad included. This was his favourite march.
Did you know, this March has actually a Meaning?
It is said the composer Johann Gottfried Piefke has written the first
draft of the march on the Battlefield itself (Battle of Königgrätz)
0:00 - 0:43 Lockmarsch
0:44 - 1:18 The undecisive battle between the prussian 1th Army and the
Austrians
1:19 - 1:35 The Arrival of the prussian 2nd Army under Command of
Crownprince Friedrich Wilhelm of Prusia
1:36 - 1:52 The Battle continues...
1:53 - 3:02 Victory! - (The Hohenfriedberger Marsch was chosen, to recall older victories of King Frederick the Great over the Austrians in
the 18th century)
3:03 - 5:21 Repeat from 0:44 - 3:03

Enjoying listening to these different powerful marches.
Went to Chile on business in the '90s. At two meetings I was greeted by with handshakes and heel licking in the best Prussian fashion.

This is definitely, the best version.

Looks like the Austrians faired about as well as the russians

Toller Marsch, echt Deutsch 👍👍💙
