Axl Rose wrote the song and it was released in 1991.
It was certified 7 x times platinum, got Grammy nominations and peaked at number 2 on the Billboard charts. The mv is one of the most expensive in history - $1.5m. It won them the "best cinematography" award at the 1992 MTV Music Awards where it also got a Video Vanguard award. Originally, the song was 25 minutes long.
November Rain is based on the short story "Without You", written by Del James. It is basically about a rock star, grieving over the death of his girlfriend, who had committed suicide. It was inspired by Axl Rose's troubled relationship with Erin Everly.

That first solo by Slash is one of his all time best, it just flows and fits with the song and melody so well. Plus that sweeping visual of Slash outside the church...this is an epic song and epic video for a reason. Great choice Sonja!
I really like the first solo but it doesn't have half the melodic power of the last ^^

Iconic that solo , i was a kid when I saw this video and I was so impressed my heart felt every sound and still it does , btw I still think that slash looks so cool !

If you look close when she is in the coffin, you can see a reflection: A mirror. A hint that she was shot in the side of head as funeral directors would do that to hide that the side of the face where the shot happened would be disfigured if the grieving party wanted an open casket. In the short story she commited suicide short after the wedding.
Yes, this was a very expensive video for it's time. They literally used a helicopter to pan around Slash playing his solo. Beautiful song! Still makes me cry today when I hear it.

November Rain is my fav. song of all time. It has so many layers to it, and Axl on the piano (which we do not get to experience much, in GnR) is fire!
You can listen to various versions of this song, on-line. This video (the remastered 2022 version) seems to be Axl's ultimate vision for this masterpiece, but personally, I prefer some of the other, more raw versions of this song, where in my opinion more of the raw emotions are showcased even more so, because the video (as awesome as it is) & orchestra (also awesome) cover some of it.
I never tire of this incredible song & GnR are awesome.

This is one of my all time favorites. Takes me back to college. These two albums still sit on my top 10 list all these years later.
Fil, yeah, back in the day this was everywhere. Axel's vocal is a stand out along with Slash's solo.

Slash is one of the greatest guitarist if all time, clearly I can see Sammy is getting you to react to slash's solo stuff soon.
He's actually done 3 or 4 of Slash with Myles, but definitely should do more.

The original version had November Rain and Estranged combined into one track. They feel similar. You may have listened to Estranged.

Kinda believe this is about Axl and Erin Everly relationship. They went out for years broke up pregnancy married miscarriage she left him but he was somewhat abusive.
