I will share my mistake to help someone else. I jumped the gun on a marketplace sportster. It was a 2002. Fell in love with it as soon as I took it for a test ride. I was riding a 250 before. Got it home it was leaking oil everywhere. Gas was leaking out the carb. Went inside to do a top end rebuild and someone had put 883 pistons in the bike which is supposed to be a 1200. Turn signals had to be rewired. Battery needed to be replaced. The bleeder valve was completely torn to pieces. The speedo was removed. I’ve been able to fix all these issues that I’ve mentioned but would definitely look a little closer the next time I buy a bike.
Walter, I lived up in Minnesota for a few years and the roads up there are destroyed from the salt. I have this exact hardtail kit on my bike. Just gotta rock a longer front end and drop the psi in your rear tire about 5lbs and you’re cruisin on a Cadillac. Here’s a vid of my bike completed with this hardtail. ruclips.net/video/aFI-sDliiqk/видео.html
@@PARTYONFOREVER -- Regarding salt killing roads (and cars) I hear ya. I also wonder where all the tax money for road/street repaving has been going. With the exception of one bike, I've always ridden bikes built around rigid frames. Knocking out a little air out of the rear tire does make for a softer ride, but you still have to be on the lookout for bike (and car) eating potholes. Build right. Ride safe. -- W
ProTip: look at bolt heads..screw heads..see if they are still nice and sharp..not all buggered or stripped out..that can tell ya if a good mechanic was in to it..or if it was just smacked around with a rock..lol
I think choppers look the best with a frisco-mounted larger-capacity Sportster gas tank. Relocating the filler towards the front of the tank (and to the right) requires more work (and money), but that's what is required to retain fuel capacity. I'm referring to pre-fuel injected Sportsters with a 5 speed transmission. I've heard of guys who install a 6 speed gear cluster from Baker Driveline (big bucks) and a kickstarter kit (more big bucks). That's great if you have the cash to splash and if you're going to keep the bike for a long time. Sportys rule!
Excellent presentation. I’m in the market. I’m also going on 70. Had 2 bikes in the past. Kaw 500 3 cylinder chambers stacks gears clip on’s,rear sets. Harley Bicentennial super glide and I should have hung myself for selling it.
I love it! I just bought my own ‘98 donor and will be following along closely. I may not be able to afford the hardtail kit yet but I will be saving up and taking notes.
awesome! Nice summary. Look forward to following it. that’s not a deal that’s a steal! Also just picked up a 2002. Have a 2004 already but you know which ones on the chopping block
So from 1986 to 2003 Sportsters had an Evolution motor that was mounted to the frame. The frame design itself stayed consistent though this period so our hardtail works with all Sportsters in this range. Our kit does actually fit Ironhead Sportsters from 1982 through 1985 as well. Starting in 2004, Sportsters got a revamped frame design including rubber motor mounts to reduce vibration. Since the frame dimensions changed, our hardtail kit won't fit anything 2004 and newer.

Rigid frames look ultra-clean, but with the lousy roads here in NE Ohio, I'd go with a stock swishy tail. Great bike build. Ride safe.

This is a very informative video. Hopefully, H-D won't drop the Sportster from its production line. Build right. Ride safe.
If there smart (there trac record past few years contradicts) they won’t but at this point it honestly wouldn’t surprise me
well these comments aged like milk

Looking forward to these videos!!!
Can i get the year for the donor bike?
The tire date is when the tire was made not installed. Could have been at a shop on a shelf for a while.
correct, probably miss spoke on that one, thanks for the correction.
When will the hardtail kits be back n stock?
hey i bought parts off you dudes good parts
It will fit 1986 to 2003. May i ask are there any reason why ? what if you have a late model sporter and you want to do this, will it work ?

Talk some more
mc shop/day care
Nooo.
Ruining a great bike.
Not much of a video you talk to much,
whats the drop on the hardtail? besides the rear brake caliper are there any issues with a pre 2007 sporty?
This kit is for sportys 86-03. The rubber mounted Sportster won’t mount up without some additional fab.
