It took a while to get FreeDVDBoot working, but I did it, I got FreeMCBoot installed via FreeDVDBoot. My PS2 model is the 30001 R model, and the DVD player firmware is 2.10. I just got the PS2 hours ago, and I had been testing my disc games with it. And finally I got it working properly.
Got the disc to run on my PS2, but I had to boot the console first then insert the disc and access it like a DVD movie, my disc burner didn't go lower than 4x but the disc turned out OK. I'm following your other tutorial to boot games from USB. 👍
I believe the memory card needs to be empty for this to work. It also needs to be an original Sony branded card. Heard you can do it with any card but it might be glitchy or not work at all.

Is there a reason why we have to write the disc at a slow speed? I thought the same data gets written to the disc no matter what speed you choose. The faster write speeds just became available as burners became faster
Faster speeds can give errors when writing to discs and ps2/ps1 are very particular about it. You could be playing a game fine for hours but you get to one section of the game that was wrote to wrong/bad and youre done, cant progress. writing at the slowest speed makes sure the games work 100%

3:52 Uncompress or decompress?? Uncompress means that it was never compressed in the first place, as in plain data. Decompress is to convert it to its original size and that’s exactly what’s going on here.
I was wondering where the save files of the games are being stored. Are these stored on the USB drive where you have all of your ISO's or on the Memory Card where the McBoot is installed on.
Lets say u remove that usb or memory card after jailbreaking and put a ps2 disc and start the console will it boot normally with the ps2 intro and all?

With the PS2 getting up in age, the CMOS battery will need replacement. Any chance for a pair of videos for the replacement process? Maybe 1 video for each type?

I get back to Menu and start the game my PS3 is telling me: This model of PS3 is not compatible with PS2 format disk. I thought this Multiman or what it is emulates the PS2? Or I did something wrong? So, I picked up a memory card at my local game shop. Crazy enough it had fmcb on it. So I'm trying to learn how to use it. I'm wondering if my issues are from my USB stick I'm using. Most of the time when I try to load a game I get the message loading config and I guess it freezes. I've had it actually boot games a few times but it's not consistent at all. I was thinking I should order a SanDisk 3.0 USB and try that as a fix. It appears to be an authentic 8gb Sony magic gate memory card My PS2 has stopped reading the DVD games and looks like I need to clean it but other than that I don't know what to say that would be helpful other than it says it's running version 1.966. Hoping someone here can help me figure out what I'm doing wrong. TIA
don't use this tutorial, it's not compatible with most PS2s out there and the project was abandoned. since you'll be owning a hard drive anyway for this mod, use the hard drive mcboot method to create the memory card mcboot (mrmario2011 tutorial)

I had a similar issue (blackscreen, not media player) wich was caused by having the system language set to anything but english. FreeDVDBoot relies on being run on a system that is set to english. That is a DVD-Boot exclusive quirk. Once you made it to FreeMCBoot you can revert the change.
And years ago I couldn't figure out how your suppose to get free mcboot on your memory card. Before there was a DVD exploit. Then after I got it it said it was for free on PSXplace. Facepalm, wish more people could have just said so.

Sadly , it wouldn't work on my version 2.10 DVD .... It ignores the burned DVD on boot . So I ordered the memory card and it works ! It sees my hdd and that it has no games on it yet . Now , to test the card on the slim I was given..... and figure out how to add PS1 games on the hdd also . Got a ton of them compared to my PS2 titles . Or it's RetroArch on the PC for them !

@pindzyn the disc worked just fine to create the free mcboot card, I didn't need to fix it. You can burn it at 4x speed.

You might have the wrong DVD version

Pretty simple. Open up the ps2 and drop in a fresh cr2032 into the battery holder.

Once I’m on my ps2 it loads the disc fine, but once I go to open the fmcb installer the screen just goes black.

This tutorial is incomplete! I think you missed the part when you need to install OPL loader to play off the hard drive! 😐

Found out I needed a Av to hdmi upscaler to get it to 720p or 1080p then it works fine
