I wish stuff like this existed when I was a student. I had a small rice cooker, which was amazing as a student, but that in combination with a airfryer would be god tier for a low budget or anyone limited in space.

Souchira instant pot has a pressure cooker air fryer for under USD $200. Check out John Sanders channel where he does a full beef prime rib roast and in another video 20 wings from frozen to done in 1/2 an hour.

Fred Frond we have both an airfryer and instant pot, and both cook different foods better :) don't know if it would be a good option for dorm rooms though with the price point. A small rice cooker and airfryer would do well in dorms.

Key to air fry is if you want anything less dry inside. It needs to be 90% cooked on a low temp and then last 10% cooking time should be at max temp to achieve that Gold tone of deep fryer. And don't forget the preheat 3 min max temp or add 3-5 min more to your recipes required time if you too lazy to pre heat.

I'm in awe. A close friend bought me an air fryer today as a late birthday gift. I'd heard they really shine with meat.
The first thing I cooked was ribeye steak with stuffed mushroom, and I just guessed on the timings and temperatures. I usually like my steak rare, but it came out medium/well done, I kind of expected that seeing as it was all guess work. But MY GOD. I have never had a medium/well done steak have such golden and crispy fat, yet retain such juiciness and flavour. The first ever thing I cooked in this new air fryer fucking sold me completely!
I've just finished a beautifully seasoned chicken breast, and yet again it was pure juiciness and flavour.
I'm beginning to feel like this is the best birthday gift I have ever received!

Quick Tip for slicing any meat thinly: Take refrigerator temperature meat and place it on a cookie sheet in the freezer for 30-45 minutes until it just starts to freeze. You want it cold and very firm with some ice crystals starting to form, but not so frozen that a sharp chef's knife won't go through it. With a little practice and patience, you can then slice amazingly thin slices. If it starts to get too warm and loose, return it the the freezer for 10 minutes and then continue.

@Anonymous Besides the obvious things like rice in about 20 minutes and slow cooking, it does what pressure cookers are great at - deep cooking in short time. For example you can cook unsoaked beans in about 70 minutes including warming-up and cool-down time. You can do one-pot stews, chilis, curries and mac-n-cheese in short time without having to babysit at all.

One thing I've found about the Air Fryer is IT DOESN'T HEAT UP THE KITCHEN. Not an issue in colder countries, but this is why they are so popular in places like India. And apart from fine tuning your own recipes in the beginning, you can toss the food in, and just walk away. For a few minutes :-) One thing it doesn't do, particularly with meat dishes though, is provide the basis for gravy like meat in a pan does. (though the cake baking accessory would work if gravy is a must). I've done marinated chicken pieces in their sauce in the cake baking pan; worked beautifully.

I love the airfryer. For people that live alone (Like me ;( ) or households of 2, the airfryer can almost completley replace the oven and deepfryer. The only problem is larger things (e.g. full sized cake or pizza). But almost everything can be made in smaller versions. For some foods it can just be a hassle to figure out the right time/temperature ratio, but for most foods you can find good instructions on the internet.

When you tried to make the "twice fried plantains", aka Tostones, you used the wrong kind of plantains. You are supposed to use the plantains that are the really unripe green ones. They have the characteristics of a starchy root vegetable/potato at that stage. When the plantains are yellow, their characteristics change and they are more fruit like with a higher sugar content. Traditionally what we Puerto Ricans do with the yellow plantains is cut them in half, and slice them lengthwise. Then we sautee them in butter and a tiny touch of salt, finishing them off with a bit of brown sugar until browned. It doesn't take long to cook, so careful not to burn them. For an extra treat, you can add a bit of rum while they cook.

Nice. I received an Instant Vortex Plus for Christmas,. At first, I was "whatever," but now we love it. It's convenient and heats up faster than an oven, and the small size is perfect since We're only cooking for two now. Today, she baked a small pineapple upsidedown cake in it, and as that cooled, I made fish and chips with salmon and hand-cut steak-fries. All were excellent.
And last week, we roasted a full 6-pound chicken in 40 minutes that was 100% done perfectly. Crispy skin, thighs 165, and flavorful. Better and faster than the oven, where I'd have to bone the chicken to have it done in 40 minutes, thereby adding 10 minutes of prep time,,, and another few minutes sanitizing the counter after to avoid salmonella. Needless to say, there's no comparison.
Believe the hype. Air fryers are cool. And way more useful than the pressure cooker, the uber-hip Instant Pot, that she got me last year.

    • @MartijnDeGussem
      @MartijnDeGussem 4 года назад +2

The bitterness in both of these is probably the ofputting part. The trick is to make sure they are cooked through and get some nice browning on them, this reduces the bitterness and ads some nice flavour in return. Then as you say match them with some apropriate food. Chicory (witloof): remove the core, cut leaves in halve and fry in plenty of good butter + salt and pepper ofc, keep the temp on the low side and stirring occasionally wait untill they have browned nicely. For me it goes great with cordon bleu and your potato preparation of choice (croquette in my case). Brussels sprouts: (make cros cuts in bottom for even cooking) and blanche for a few minutes. Let cool/dry slightly and cut in halves. Then fry in plenty of butter with pepper salt and a little bit of nutmeg (go easy on it though). Fry untill you get nice browning but make really sure they don't burn. Don't stirr too vigorous or often though or they'll completely brake apart. I love them just like that, probably best with any pork dish. Alternatively my dad combined them with bacon bits and some baked potatoes into a puree for an amazing christmass side dish that even all the kids would love. Hope that helps :) kind regards, a non pro belgian home chef ;)

I just got an air fryer. Talk about being late to the game. But when I chose one I had one requirement: I could rotisserie. And I decided the same thing as you that Cosori was really good. I find with the more open compartment and a drop-down door that you do not get the same results because of the increased room. (mine is 30L) But when you had one show you were getting the feel for what you needed for cooking so I felt better when things did not turn out the way we wanted. I am now on my way to becoming a Cosori Large Chamber expert. :) We wanted to go with an air fryer to eliminate the need for deep fry AND because our Colombian oven was really bad and hard to get started and staying hot the entire cook without the fire blowing out.

Thanks for this, there's a lot of interesting ideas here, the bread and personal apple pies especially looked really good. Do you think using something like frozen bread dough would work well for the bread balls?
Two things I've done in my air fryer that I was surprised turned out so well were cheesy garlic bread toast (took french bread, cut it in half and poured melted butter with various spices in it on the bread then sprinkled cheese on top and cooked for like 5 minutes or so at 375, it toasted up perfectly all the way around) and apple chips (sliced them on a mandolin and cooked them for a long time at the lowest temp mine could go, like 200, they were super crispy and delicious).

But does it taste good. If it does I don't care. It would be helpful if you did something better with your time than posting this nonsense about it's not authentic.

I just made 4 batches of kale chips. The nutritional yeast really gives a nice toasty flavor. I got creative with the last two batches. One I did with a truffle black garlic parmesan blend I got at Costco. The other I did with a wasabi furikake which is super great and my favorite batch. Reminds me of nori.

Thank you so much for this video! It convinced my husband and me to buy one. Still experimenting, with some hits and misses, but I think we will end up very happy with it.
One question about kale chips: how do you stop the light pieces from flying around, getting caught in the fan and burning? I had to stop it every couple of minutes to clean out the fan.
