Unpopular opinion: it would have made no sense and would have broken oblivions story.
The whole point of Oblivion was that there was no more heirs to the septim dynasty since Martin was the last one.
Uriel just hanging in there and not getting assasinated would just make it painfully dumb because why not just return to Tamriel, take the throne and be a hero?
I’m glad they went with Alduin because Alduin fits in Skyrim lore and it doesn’t suddenly invalidate Oblivions whole main plot.
Imo it would be far far worse writing if Uriel was the main villain.
Sure people didn’t like Alduin but I blame that more on engine limitations of anything.

And to expend upon it a bit more. It would be painfully dumb because it would make the mythic dawn look like bigger idiots.
They assasinated Uriel VII heirs with Martin being the only septim being alive because they hid his ancestry away so they wouldn’t be able to find him.
Uriel the Akavir coming back after the oblivion crisis wouldn’t make any sense because why didn’t he return during the oblivion crisis ti be a hero? Like it wouldn’t benefit him at all to return after the oblivion crisis because people would be like “wait a minute there is still a septim alive after Martin? Where was he during the oblivion crisis”
No one would support him during Skyrim. Hell people would probably hate him more than Titus Mede II.
The storm cloaks wouldn’t support him nor would the empire, and why would Dragons support him especially him being Dragonborn?
It’s like a way way worse version of Fallout 4 institute father reveal but way way worse.

Its my personal belief that Uriel V survived and fathered Septim offspring and are in Bethesda's backpocket to bring a Septim back to the Imperial throne or to become a third party in the next Great War of Empire vs Aldmeri Dominion if they want to. Similar to Game of Thrones, especially when you take into account that Uriel V was meant to return on dragon back to reconquer the Empire in the original Skyrim plot.

It would be interesting if they decided to make a new add-on that brought back a version of Uriel's return as a 3rd quest dlc

How far back can a necromancer reach in TES? Could a Necromancer revive a long dead person? If so, then what If there was a Necromancer who was trying to summon long dead heroes to fight you? What if there was a Necromancer who was trying to revive the septim dynasty by reviving dead septims

That is literally a quest in Skyrim. The coven of necromancers under solitude trying to resurrect queen Potema Septim.

This would have been a far more interesting than "dragons". I would say that a storyline featuring Uriel would be great for TES 6, but I honestly don't have a lot of hope for future Elder Scrolls stories unless they get a new Lead Writer.

Even if they went with the Uriel V idea, the game would've still been about fighting dragons.
Akavir was just one of the ideas pitched to explain where the dragons were coming from.

I hope we only get snippets of Uriel in the next game, like we meet a primary source that can tell us what happened to the Akaviri invasion. Everyone thinks it’s going to be set in Hammerfell and I agree it could be a cool scene for it, but having Uriel appear in that scene doesn’t make too much sense to me personally as it’s fairly landlocked, no? And on the wrong side of Tamriel.

When I first heard Uriel septim’s return was the original plot, I was kind of bummed about it. It sounded like a great idea!
The return of the dragons could’ve still played a role too.
