Thanks Arthur. One comment said it looks like a welder is inside the caboose trying to fix it. Seems all the Menards Cabooses have this problem so I will not buy another. Have a great weekend.! 😊
That's a VERY impressive Santa Fe train you put together Mark! Try putting a drop of oil on the axle ends of that tank car and see if it improves things. If that's the second Menards caboose that has a flickering problem if I were you I'd just gut the thing and rewire it, maybe even replace the bulbs and bulb sockets it they're LED lamps, just go with old reliable icandescents. I've done it on MPC Era Lionels and it's not hard if you know basic electricity. If you have to pick up some hobby brass and fashion your own axle grounds. I've done that too. A fun video as always!
Thanks Wayne.! I was looking at the tanker and the silver paint on the inside of the trucks after I carefully scraped it out the wheels freed up. The Caboose is a hot glue disaster just like the last one so I'm probable just going to look for a nice Rail King or Lionel Caboose but may mess with this one before hand. I may try your suggestions especially the copper axle ground will make a big difference I hope.! Great Comment and have a fantastic Week.! Thanks Again.!😊
Mark thats a very nice tank car and if you remember my second video of me running the mth post office cars they came with the yellow caboose that lite up during the run and the lights on it also flickered and best i member they turned off which i really havent ran em since then but im thinking about making my next video of the csx diesel running them being i havent ran those cars in a while haha
Thank You.😊 I did see that however I’m sure cleaning the wheels or track will clear that right up. The Menards Caboose is a bad design in my opinion and really not worth the trouble to fix at this price point. I’m going to be looking for a Lionel or Rail King in the future. Have a great day.👍🏻
Yes 😂 Pretty sure it’s the reflection off the camera lens of the locomotive headlight. It happens from time to time in other videos as well. Thanks for watching and commenting.😊
Congratulations on the latest tank car. I stopped buying the Menards tank cars because of the plastic trucks and couplers. I purchased an eight pack of the tank cars and three of them were bad. Trucks were assembled on an angle so they didn’t track properly and derailed on curves and or came uncoupled. I wound up changing all the trucks on them. Great run session Mark! 👍
Hear you there Frank 👍🏻 I definitely don’t buy as many as I used to that’s for sure. I’ve had More trouble with the boxcars than the tanker’s and have many Menards wheels replaced with Lionel. Thanks for the input😊
Mark, that Santa Fe War Bonnet Tanker looks great with excellent graphics. Menards definitely needs to go to / incorporate new couplers on their rolling stock. Otherwise, folks will stop purchasing them sooner or later. Try using a fiberglass pencil to clean all arround on the wheels on your caboose. You'd be surprised at the carbon build up from just a few trips around the layout. And as has been suggested, use conductuve grease/ lube as well. Years back, I used to fly my Cessna to OSH for Air Venture or hitch a ride in a friend's Mooney 😊
Thanks Frank. Yes, I’ve seen Harrison at SMT Mainline use his fiberglass pencil many times. I actually just cleaned the wheels but without the copper leaf spring power is very inconsistent as you can see. I’ve gotten a few comments of folks with the same caboose same problems. I’ll bet it is awesome to fly into Oshkosh for the show. My Sister and I flew there for lunch not during the show in the early 90s and it was very interesting experience for sure. I can only imagine what it would be like with all that traffic during the show. Thanks for the excellent comment.! 👍🏻😊
Yes, I have both the Santa fe and Union Pacific Caboose’s and both operate like yours, I’m very dissatisfied with these two Cabooses, I’ve tried to fix the problem without success! I like your channel!👍🚂
Here's another thought on the Caboose -- maybe Menards incorrectly wired in the circuitry for the red blinking tail hazard warning lights into the interior caboose light wiring? Or ...there is slop over from those red blinking lights to the caboose interior lighting ground or positive leads ?
I did open up the original one that I returned and took one look at all the hot glue and wires everywhere and just closed it up and got a new one with the same problems as the last one. It’s actually very small and I may be better off with A Lionel or MTH in the future if I can find one? Shame because it really looks very nice. 😊 I have definitely cut back on my Menards purchases due to these continuing issues that I don’t think they really care about either way?🤷♂️
@@markslioneltrains You are correct in saying that Menards does not care about resolving any of these issues, whether it be coupler issues, or lighting issues or quality control issues. I know of people in the hobby that both called Menards on the phone or emailed them and their response was one of " No Response. " They feel that by cranking out these rolling stock in the numbers that they do manufacture them and for prices of $ 24.99 on up ; contrasted to a $ 79 to $ 99 plus boxcar by Lionel or MTH, the consumer will buy their products, flawed and all. And trash it if the problem becomes too " hot " ; such as smoking up -- and buy 2 more copies in the hopes that their hot glue landed in the correct places and red wires went to red wires and black to black, etc. 💥🚂🔥
@@franktino6676 absolutely agree and have heard the same things. Like The goofy guy that claims to work for Menards commenting that I complain too much and should stop buying the products. Thank you very much for the detailed comment.!👍🏻😊
Bless you ......your caboose looks like a " lightning " storm is going on inside ....... mine does the same, I have to have my crew wear raincoats and " rubbers " to stay dry .....LOL
Thanks Mark! Great vid! On the flickering caboose, try Bachmann p/n 99981. It is a conductive contact lube. I use it on pick up roller sides and where the roller attaches to the truck. Flicker free on most my stuff and I don't have to clean my track as often I noticed. Just a thought😊
Very Good 👍Thank you very much I will try that.!😊Now that you mention it I remember this from my old CB radio days putting base antennas together. Excellent.!
Oh dang Mark! You beat me to it! …haha! I haven’t ordered mine yet. Those look fantastic!!!! Great looking SF set you put together there! Man, that is awesome! Thanks so much for sharing!! ❤😊
LOL 😂 I already had mine ordered when I watched your video.👍🏻Even though it’s a fantasy scheme it matches the Doodlebug and that’s what this collection turned out to be. The Caboose is terrible as you can see and very annoying. I’ll take the little blink every once in a while like yours any day.! Local train store says those are hard to find these days. You are very welcome.! 🤗
Nice video Mark, I have ordered the same tank cars and have most of them, like you I really like them. As far as the caboose goes they are a pain. I have bent that connection near the axle as much as I could and it fixed one of my cabooses. The other one a UP is built differently and no matter what I do it still blinks or not at all. As far as the couplers go when it opens the first time the rubber band goes on both ends.
Thanks David good to know. 👍This is a bad design without the copper leaf spring. I may mess with it like you while I'm looking for a Rail King or Lionel one that works.😊
