The show debuted X-Nine under Wajijiwa Ent (one of the biggest idol companies in China) and three members - Zhao Lei, Xia Zhiguang and Yan Xujia debuted with a different idol survival show in China (Chuang 2019) and were part of R1SE for two years, which was pretty popular in China. X-Nine's Xiao Zhan is one of the hottest (as in most popular) actors in China right now. They all have upwards of 10M+ followers on Weibo.

The way I heard / read , Xiaojun was recruited from Chinese survival show X fire. SMs staff / managers were there when the show took place. Xiaojun was eliminate but his voice and style got SM staffs attention so they called him . I found it on Twitter . They translated from Weibo
XFire was in 2015, no doubt it put them on his radar and probably helped him if he did audition but they definitely didnt recruit him then. I don't think he would have been allowed all his socials if they had and probably wouldn't have gone to STA if he was already an SM trainee. I think he auditioned/was scouted in Shanghai. I'm sure SM/agencies do scouting auditions with STA and other institutes like that.

I read a story about Lucas in 2019, after he appeared in several Korean varshows such as Happy Together, Knowing Brothers, Law of the Jungle, and Real Man, SBS then introduced him to Keep Running production, and then homie got interviewed and passed the audition and became the new MC in one of the biggest show in China. The boy got in only for fun but who knows he actually has so many talent. His dancing and singing eventually improves over the years, and I watched his Superm mini-drama and he nailed it, even the director praised him. So yeah, that is really something to be proud of. And special thank to all the trainers in SM. They are also very great to be able to 'produce' great artists. I hope WayV all the success in the world. 💚
