@ 24:00 Great video - thanks. Please, keep 'em coming. Now, um, about this WWII American warship ... well ... back in the day, they generally didn't have twin helicopter hangers just forward of the helicopter landing pad at the stern. They would also have had multiple main gun turrets, forward and aft, instead of the one quick-firing 5" gun up front. Notwithstanding, I very much hope the Frenchies were as happy to see this one and it's brave crewmembers as they were to see its predecessors in 1944. :-)
Ah ha! you're probably right. It seems that you know a lot more about military boats than us. We had just assumed that it was a WW2 boat as they were 'remembering' the D-day landings that week - when the US and UK soldiers landed to get rid of those right wing invaders, 75 years ago.... we didn't see anything else going on out of the ordinary, other than that ship parked there...
Just what I've been looking for, a series on sailing an exploration 45. I recommend you put this in the description! I watched for shots of the boat to figure this out :)
@@sailingchloe2330 thanks for your reply. The thing is a potential viewer wouldn't know it featured the Exploration 45 when it just pops up on their feed with every other sailing video... But maybe not your focus
Great explanation of the EPIRB and great sail across to UK. You guys would have liked Sark or Herm near Guernsey as very quiet but have to anchor off as no harbour. Andy UK
I very much like you filming your maneuver-training. Looking forward to see more of it in the future. Maybe even the whole maneuver? I understand that it would be difficult to do it short-handed and still film it but as I understood from the other video your are going to train until each of you can do it single handed. So perhaps once you are confindent you could share some of the full maneuvers?
yes. we need a better video setup. but Dawn is getting pretty good at holding the camera under her chin while pirouetting on one toe. We need to make more of a camera action plan before we sail.. rather than just shoot some video as an afterthought.. we'll try to get better.
Thanks for the ride, it seems to me you guys know what you are doing when it comes to sailing a boat. After sailing the new boat for awhile, did you get a big enough boat?
Hi William, Thanks for your kind comments. We have throught about that question quite a bit; both before buying and now after we have lived on Chloe for a bit. We think that from a sailing perspective she's a perfect size. We don't need huge winches and all the lines are not loaded massively.. and I can grab her by the bow sprit when docked and manipulate her manually... but, on the other hand, the living space is tight. The shower is a bit small. But we're actually getting used to 'living small'.. Dawn likes the lack of space that needs to be cleaned.. : ). and the bed is a good size - so we get a good sleep when we need to. In all, we would probably not change the choice of boat size... given the choice again.
Hi Dawn, Peter. @ 11:06 - nice shot of your mainsail at reef 2. Which sails are we seeing here? The standard Dacron, the Sail Performance Pack, or the Hydranet? Thanks.
HI V, Many thanks. We went with Std Dacron Sails and Performance Pack 'tracks'. We're just not good enough as racing sailors to deserve Hydranet. And we wanted to be able to repair the sails anywhere in the world.. hence Dacron (Polyester). The tracks are v.good.. so far. We'll monitor them as the ball bearings get dusty/sticky etc...
Nice video guys, thank you. Love the boat and the explanations, tours etc. One question: what is the red rope on bottom of boom near boom vang end? Is this a boom preventer/ boom steadier of sorts. SK in the UK
Sailing Chloe thought so. Never seen one before but must be nice to keep the boom from banging around in choppy light wind seas. Thanks for the reply. Keep the great videos coming. Really enjoying them and love the boat! SK in the UK.
Yes. It sure is. We're happy with it. It seems to be holding up, so far (6 months) and cleans up well. It's just PVC so can be recycled and sanded if it were to get seriously stained somehow.. . it also insulates a hot Al deck from bare feet... we went with the closest 'look' to real teak - teak 'n black. Which is ok from a 10ft distance - but we'll always know that it's plastic...
@@sailingchloe2330 Thanks for these thoughts. We're tossing up between the Dek-king (which looks great IMO), or the MarineDeck (not so good looking but possibly good insulation factor from the cork it's made from IIRC), or the grippy foil stick on stuff they do as standard (and save a few bucks in the process, for something else). Did you get any clear advice that made the Dek-king sound like the right choice? Did someone advise that the aluminium decks can get hot? I've certainly heard that real teak decks can get crazy hot, for feet as well as down inside. My lady and I are looking at this closely, so we can maximise the benefits of the insulation under the side decks.
@@Valden23 yes. We also looked at his question for quite a while. We had looked at some old older boats and the paint solution just doesn't manage to cover up the fact that it's an Al boat. They look metal. Whereas DK or MD softens the look and it looks pretty much like teak... after a couple of GnT's at least. Bare Al or painted Al will get hot. Just basic Physics. Paint is thinner than PVC and PVC is a good thermal insulator. In hot sun - I would not be able to walk with bare feet on painted metal - but then again, I have no Yogi training.. From perspective of insulation from the inside - I doubt it makes a difference. As the 1.5" of neoprene closed cell foam would dominate the insulation's performance. We think the insulation on the inside is one of the best things; and it's what you pay for in part.As far as DK vs MD - it came down to (i) how tough it looked) and (ii) the visual. And we went with darker/redder look. We don't like the light wood 'Scandinavian' (Ash) look.. we prefer the warm teak/cherry look. Purely personal pref. And, the MD didn't look as tough as DK, although I'm sure it's probably as good if you were to do hardness tests... suggest u get some samples to look at side by side for this. After some time bouncing around on it and cleaning it.. I think I would go with DK again.

Good video! A lot of good coverage on B&G electronics and the particulars of your rigging changes!
That WW2 American warship happened to be one of the US Navy's latest destroyers, great video :)

yes. is a boom brake. 14mm double braided polyester. Walder 403H brake. Lewmar 14mm clutch. Works pretty well.. but you need to get tension just so.
