I appreciate a video like this from someone like yourself. I’ve had to change my mindset recently to create art and not just draw with a tattoo in mind and I’ve started enjoying drawing more 🙏🏻 I love your no bs approach to advice, you always come across as such a genuine person and I think in this day and age of tattooing that’s difficult to come across. Thank you 💙
That’s wicked, you don’t want drawing to become a chore, just draw for yourself and it’ll show in your work. And thank you, for the kind words! I try not to over think what I’m saying, it’s hard sometimes because everyone else is so coherent and script haha
The amounts of people asking for apprenticeships without a portfolio or even knowing how to draw is insane. People think tattoo shops will teach them to draw. Which is not the place to learn that. Im glad you put emphasis on DRAWING lots… when i was looking for an apprenticeship i had a thick book of drawings. Granted looking at them now - not the best. But i showed i was eager and that i spend my time drawing anyway. Nice video Jason! Looking forward seeing more.
Sound advice as per usual! It’s so tough these days but it’s worth it in the end- many rejections but just takes one shop/studio to give you a chance 💫 Big ups Jason!
Bro, have been enjoying your videos for a while now. This was so clutch. I’m weeks away from starting to approach studios and these tips you shared here were so valuable. Thank you !
This was awesome, man. Wish I’d known this stuff sooner. I was an apprentice years ago at a dodgy street shop in South London, they definitely only cared about the free labour. Put me off tattooing a lot. Still drawing, painting, carving and creating…who knows, maybe I’ll find tattooing again one day
great advice definitely a video ill be rewatching as I continue my journey to get an apprenticeship , I've been pouring so much energy into this for months and although I've been turned away and shops have said we don't have time to even look at your portfolio I'm still going and striving to get there. hard work pays off so every time I get declined or feel low about the process I just work harder and one day hopefully it'll pay off . id love to see a video of you breaking down what you look for in a portfolio in detail that would be amazing . thanks for the content .
Hi man, yeh, just keep going for it, and keep practising! The more you develop your skills outside of tattooing, the easier tattooing will come to you when you start. I will do a few follow ups about different aspects of getting an apprenticeship
There's to many tattooartists at the moment .... everyone wants to become one these days. In my city alone ( wich is really small ) there were allready 30 shops couple years ago and last year alone another 10 to 15 popped up. And still adding. Its too much, market is becoming flooded. Just because everyone indeed thinks its easy work for the money. Not allot of passion. They say they have passion but 80% copies only pinterest bullshit.
Fantastic Tattoo artist 🔥🔥. Great studio with great artists. Had 70% of my work done at Moth and Flame. i would love to be able to draw with so much depth and realism. create a portfolio and crack on. 🙌🏻🙌🏻🔥👌🏻
