- Hello 👋
My name is Jo (they/them) and I am a professional tattoo artist based in Bournemouth, a beautiful place in the South Coast of the UK. In todays's video I talk about what to expect whilst doing a tattoo apprenticeship. I talk about my experience as an apprentice and what you might be asked to do!

I finally landed an apprenticeship after 2 years of searching. A new studio opened in my city and I wrote them as soon as i saw it, the head artist was impressed by my sketch portfolio and said he would love to teach me, I'm so excited
That’s awesome!! Good luck with it 😊
@@jochastney Thank you!
How’s your apprenticeship going?
@@Madlemore I got the keys to the studio and can practise without supervision now, I still don't feel comfortable enought to start tattooing real skin but my mentor says I'm doing well
Hows it going ?
I landed a tattoo apprenticeship with a locally black owned shop that just opened up and so far it’s been a lot of me picking up the owners dogs shit because he brings his dogs to work(but he’s also letting me bring my new puppy to work starting next week cuz she destroys my apt after she escapes her playpen, and also is even getting me a kennel to keep at the shop for her), cleaning, spending my time sketching and watching the artists tattoo clients. I do get tip out from helping set up tattoo stations n such. I get there @11/12 n we close at 9, it’s so much fun already. Thank you for the video you’re helping me learn more!
One of the artists that I’m learning from though he said his apprenticeship was super fucked up. They got him super drunk one time and then also did a bunch of other really weird things to him. But he’s a TERRIFIC artist n amazes me with his work n ideas. I can’t wait to be on the same level my mentors are.
Why did you feel the need to specify your shop is black owned? Totally bizarre and random to draw attention to race out of nowhere.
I love the amount of tea everyone drinks 😂💖
Everytime I look up a tattoo video I see your face and know I’m getting good information. Thank you
Awesome! Thanks for letting me know 😊
This was super helpful, starting up my tattoo career here in Bristol. Thanks lovely. 💗
Awesome! Good luck 😊
Thank you so much! I’m starting to work in a branch in Kent I was the first to come in and ask, I found it on Facebook!
Great work well done! That’s brave and it’s paid off. Good luck with it 😊
Thank you sm for the video !!
Thank you for watching 😊
One of my favourite RUclipsrs
Thank you!
I'm in a place where I want a career change. Subbed for more motivation and encouragement!! Thanks for the clear and honest info :)
No problem!
If you put your mind to it and perhaps a little bit of luck you can do anything!
@@jochastney appreciate that, Jo. For now it's working on my drawing!
I actually live near bournemouth and really want to become a tattoo artist! its so hard trying to find somewhere taking people on as everywhere where I am already have full spots and lined up apprentices!
Iv just turned 40 I'm a HGV driver but getting sick of the job and always had a love of drawing and always wanted to be a tattooist, im going to ask my friend who ownes his own studio if I can come in couple times a week to learn, ad love to be in there full time but iv got to be practical and need to work still, iv dropped down to 4 days a week working so I can definitely fit 2 days in for now lol
That’s a very exciting move!
Great idea to ask your friend and start off with a couple of days here and there. Keep drawing whenever you can and best of luck!
Thank you for the tips! I'm starting my apprenticeship soon, I'll also be working part time afterwards. Are there any rules regarding clothing and clothing changes upon leaving the studio after a day's work?
I wear an apron so I don’t have to change my clothes. Without an apron I would advise changing after work.
I start my apprenticeship todat
I can't believe you can't learn in home, to manny people show hiw to learn in RUclips and yoy can learn for yourself this is incredibly how is work in UK
is it learning tattoo course for 1 mon is very needed ? or 3 yrs of apprenticeship is enough?
The artist askes me 80 euro for 1 hour of his teaching.. when I hear that people teach for free it sound so kind. I have not accepted this offer yet. Cause that would cost me a lot to actually learn something.
you sound like billy the kid from AC4
Omg their voice sounded so familiar
I have 1 week and I'm already tattooing fake skin
Awesome!
How’s your progress?
ALWAYS ask around about the artist. Found out the artists that used to work w the artist offering me an apprenticeship opened a whole new shop bc of how disgusting he was towards women
Wow! I think it’s very important to find out as much as you can too. They might be an amazing artist, but do you want to support and spend time with a horrible person?!
@@jochastney exactly! I'm saving up to get a tat covered after I found out the artist assaulted my friend. J seeing it disgusts me
