  • Emrakul, the World Anew is a new Eldrazi dropping with MTG Modern Horizons 3. But the wording of the card can be a little confusing. So I'm going over all the rules you need to know, breaking down exactly what the card does, what it has protection from and how to beat it!
    Thanks for watching!

    So how do you deal with Emrakul?
    1. Deny that she exists. Close your eyes, stick your fingers in your ears, and ignore the fleshy tendrils as your body mutates.

Basically Tishana's "loses all abilities" effect only kicks in if you counter the triggered ability of a permanent. While on the stack, Emrakul is not a permanent. Forgive me, because the wording of the rules is confusing me, but a counterspell would work because it resolves at instant speed, right? The rules clearly state that it's a spell on the stack until it resolves, so if a counter isn't countered, it would resolve and counter Emrakul? Does Emrakul not have prot spells until it would ETB?
    I'm assuming that you can't counter Emrakul as the counter would still be a spell, therefore you can only get around Emrakul through abilities.

    • @attackoncardboard
      @attackoncardboard  2 месяца назад

      So you cast Emrakul and place them on the stack. When you do, their "when you cast" triggered ability triggers and goes on the stack on top of Emrakul.

Emmy player would be all "protection!" and then opponent would point out "the thing doing the targeting is not a colored spell, but a permanent: enchantement" ..The "cast this turn" makes it so these types of enchantments that only target on ETB don't work if they ETB'd by way of being cast

      1:51 "can't be damaged by"
      And yes, flickering Solitude does work, did you watch the video? 😅
      If you flicker a Solitude, when it gets exiled, it becomes a new game object, and when it ETBs, it wasn't cast, so it can exile Emrakul as it's neither a spell nor a permanent that was cast this turn.

  • @Darkling665
    @Darkling665 5 месяцев назад

    I do not think that flicker effects would work.
    They go to exile and then enter the battlefield to get their etb but then can not target it since they have entered the battlefield this turn.

      Emrakul has protection from things that are 'cast'. If you blink a permanent, you're right, it goes into exile, then comes back, but it *doesn't* use the stack. It coming back is part of the resolution of the thing that blinked it, which means it happens all at once (or not at all, if countered). The permanent moves from exile straight to the battlefield. It has not been 'cast'.

      @attackoncardboard  5 месяцев назад +6

      "cast" is the key word. Flickered permanents aren't cast when they come back to the battlefield.

      You can still flash in Solitude after Emrakul has been cast, exile something then Flicker it to exile Emrakul.

    Not a fan at all of this Emrakul whatsoever, and I'm a big eldrazi fan usually. Emrakul usually stands out as one of the more busted pieces you could risk losing friends over, but this new one's cost is so cheap that you could just as well potentially lose a lot of the community over it if it begins to take over loved casual formats. Can be played in any deck, and you're nearly guaranteed to retain control of permanents for at least a turn with the protection ability. New Emrakul is a big FU to a player, and it'd feel terrible having to leave your paid commander pod just because someone madness casted or fortell casted the card through other means, such as via a certain commander someone local plays with at our shop to spam the board with timed giant things for no mana while running removals and counters.
    Imagine you're trying to play any combat deck, and the opponent doesnt do anything but bounce, exile, wipe, and suddenly he's got a player's creatures worth lethal to someone else, and you're next to figure out how to remove the beast. Might as well have mugged us for money and told us to f*** off.

      @attackoncardboard  5 месяцев назад

      I don't see it being a problem in Commander at all. TBH The Promised End was more a pain in the arse, as the Mindslaver effect would just ruin a single player's hand and boardstate. New Emrakul only effects boardstate at least. And dont forget, it dies to a boardwipe, not like there's any shortage of those in Commander.

    • @coryguidry8040
      @coryguidry8040 5 месяцев назад

      @attackoncardboard Not often does anyone have wipes as instants. Someone's still nearly guaranteed to fall on cast turn even if emrakul was countered, which as the video explained, would even allow Em to keep the creatures since Em is not on the field to leave it. So it's a very likely -1 player for 6 mana madness, while at the same time requiring only very specific means to flip the situation over for the remaining players.
