Im a big believer in “it’s yours, farm it how you want to, and live with the results.” I’m a champion unicorn rider. No till, organic. My advice is to keep an open mind, figure out what works for you, experiment and change when you can. My grandpa kept 1/2 the farm in pasture with cattle. Every 5 years he would make 5-6 tillage passes on the pasture to make it in to crop land again, and seed the other 1/2 back to pasture. A common practice dating back to when they farmed with horses, and all farms had livestock. He never changed, never purchased a seed or an input, and never lost money, even in the mid 80’s.
If you add up all the cultivation passes, planting passes, and harvest, he had to be making 12 passes to make 1 crop. The worst of us are farming way better than they used to. Just keep balancing improvement and risk, we got this…

Most farms around me, use 21st century technology with early 20th century methods. Till everything, lots of erosion. they seem to love radiation damage to the soil microbes. They farm for the here and now, leaving some future generation to clean up their mess. They need to go.

We rent to a farmer who alternate corn... beans...the beans transfer nitrogen from the air... Into the soil...works great 👍

does band application of UAN 32% (with the planter) or KCL 0-0-60 (with the strip till) kill living organisms in soil (microorganisms, fungi and else)

So if anyone cares . I tried about every type of tillage possible. And in doing so I almost lost the whole farm. Yes things did grow but didn't yield. So even though all the experts are saying minimal tillage . The only thing that really works for us is a good deep rip job.
