What’s the link between melancholia and mania??? Seems a lot more interesting than the mourning. Plato did mention mania as the main form of wisdom somehow I believe
The link between melancholia and mania is that mania is the excess energy that has been held back in melancholia trying to express itself again. It is incredibly interesting phenomenon. Apparently mania is common when someone is starting to work through the melancholia. In this paper Freud seems to suggest that mania is another state of psychology beyond the help of psychoanalysis (together with other non-transference conditions like schizophrenia and narcissism). Absolutely fascinating.
@@PhilosophyPortal I had patients who were manic-depressive. Total extremes. But they were so much fun during their manic episodes, until they had to be shot down with heavy medication before they would have collapsed.
Cadell, I need to ask you. Are you deleting my comments? And why haven't you replied to my emails that I sent you over the course of the last 2 years? Is it still because you are angry that I allegedly insulted you 5 years ago, or is this just some Francis Heylighen move you are applying to protect your comfort zone? I'm generally speaking curious.
Fantastic I'm so glad I found this lively discussion and extremely helpful 😀
