    Good video. As the mother of four now-grown kids (24, 29, 34, 36), most young adults don't know who they are yet. They haven't lived enough. And many are not maturing as quickly as they used to. Unfortunately this can lead to tragic choices. 😔

    Thank you for a well thought out video. Very good points. As older travelers I feel, life experiences and being more financially stable really helps. You still have to be willing to take care of each other and adjust your plans to accommodate the person that needs something. For us if my husband wants a motel and a shower, we will find one and stay a night. If the driving conditions are bad we will likely stop early and continue on, once conditions improve. After 35+ years of marriage, careers and raising our children, we both have our off days, and we always try to help each other through them. Our journey is a joint venture most of the time. There are a few things we do on our own. I don't play golf and he does not wilderness backpack. Thank you again for taking the time to produce this video. Safe travels.

      @@TheVanThatGotAway I am deeply saddened about Gabby Petito. I have been following this story all week. I follow a lot of van lifers. It is a obsession with me as I want to get a van and travel.
      She was not on my list ,but it did pop up that she was missing. I was hoping that she would be found safe, but with the boyfriends behavior it was clear that he was guilty from the start. I am beyond confused with how the law enforcement were not able to find out information. Just because he got a lawyer! Why were they not able to pull him in for questioning?! I hope they find him! What a piece of shit. Justice for Gabby!

    Thank you for providing some wisdom and perspective Leslie.... This is all so sad... I did not watch her channel I don't really pay attention to social media theater the van life channels I watch are like yours a lot of wisdom and information but not so worried about tiny bikinis and looking perfect all the time.... Social media is putting so much pressure on these youngsters to appear perfect that probably causes a lot of anxiety in and of itself.... I'm glad to see you doing well Leslie I always love watching your channel thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and ideas always

    Leslie is 100% right...campervan travel requires maturity: 1) I love traveling in my campervan most days...but it requires pretty high emotional maturity: not beating up on myself when my power system stops working, handling the loneliness, or stressing if I spend most of the trip working, etc. 2) And YES...I made sure my business was profitable before I started traveling...that I had the flexibility to take time off when I discover the location I was going to stay at DOES NOT have internet, so I waste a day searching for a new town instead of meeting deadlines. 3) In my first 3 months, I've taken 4 trips, the longest was 16 days. I am figuring out my travel style...and it is NOT months away from home. Over 2 weeks away can cause me anxiety. 4) With a partner I'd definitely try short trips before putting us through the stress of a long trip on our own in a tiny space. A friend and her fiance had a horrible 3-week overseas trip before getting married...sure enough they divorced years later for the same problems highlighted by the trip. 5) Oh yeah...vanlife travel is about FACING your issues...not running from them. I've faced my loneliness, anxiety, not taking my "vanlife fails" so seriously/personally, etc. I LOVE travel because it challenges me to face my crap and overcome it. It makes me a better person. :)

    Your advice is good but the one main point in this case is they had already had a troubling relationship BEFORE this trip. They had broken up & got back together. Basically it was an abusive relationship but they got back together -she took him back- and that's always a bad idea. Doesn't matter if they were in the van, in a mansion, a hotel, apt or a single family home. We have multiple tv channels that air almost nothing but fatal attraction murders from abusive domestic relationship.Add this one to the list. May she rest in peace. May her family find justice.

    Such an important video! I watch videos of these young people buying junky cars and taking off on van life! I have no idea of their expertise in camping, their financial situation, or anything . But I’m always concerned for their well being. Many elderly people (70, 80’s) also are selling everything they own to buy junky minivans and take on van life! I applaud their courage, but I really think most of us on this side of the computer are not getting the honest view of van life. I go camping in my SUV, I hope to travel in this vehicle to save money. But I wouldn’t sell my EVERYTHING and hit the road thinking it was forever unless I knew I could do it ( I don’t want to do more than travel and return home). Hope people stay safe and happy!

    He was extremely jealous and disliked her social media; he heard voices; locked her out of the van; and a 911 caller said he was slapping and hitting her, yet in the police footage he was laughing and called her crazy. Domestic violence is a pandemic and has increased by 8% since covid.

      I know of an older couple that drive two separate cars when they’re driving to go camping. And if you know you’re going to have issues with someone for 24 hours a day being alone with them that is a smart move if you can afford it. Like my husband we don’t like the same TV shows. I don’t like what he watches and if we were in a situation where we had one TV it would really stink

  • @gisellegonzalez2628

    Unfortunately it was beyond the little quirks. I’ve met young couples that were red flags all the way around and yes police had to be called. It’s another animal all together and cannot be compared. Police should’ve arrested him and contacted her parents. Young Vanlifers are really not prepared and are flooded with the ooohs and ahhhs of the internet, these are life lessons that everyone has to learn on their own. Sadly it caused Gabby her life. If you are out there and see this and you can help do so it may save a life.

    • @mycharmedunicorn8715
      @mycharmedunicorn8715 Год назад

      No, she should have been arrested for hitting him while he was driving. She even admitted it. That could’ve caused a horrible accident her hitting on him while he’s driving. I actually feel very sorry for him. Being with the crazy lady caused his life and hers. He just should have left her and called her parents and said come and get her.

  • @mycharmedunicorn8715
    @mycharmedunicorn8715 Год назад

    You just have to know if you are having compatibility issues, walk away. He had taken a jet back to Florida to supposedly clean out her storage unit. He should’ve never went back to her. It is really sad but there’s so many ways that could’ve been prevented. He should’ve just walked away called her dad said come and get her I’m hitchhiking home. Even married couples could have problems getting along day in and day out in close quarters. With married couples though you’re normally not alone together in small quarters for long periods of time until you’re retired which makes you old. And the older you get the calmer you get and you can take more annoying things. When I was a young mom my kids drove me nuts. As a grandma it doesn’t bother me. And I babysat my grandkids some days 12 hours a day. I think also mentally knowing that this is not a permanent situation that you’ll be able to leave in 12 hours helps. So if you’re not getting along with your spouse in a van it’s time to pack it up and go back home or you can have some distance.
    My 38 daughter has OCD. And I can tell you living with her as a teen was super hard as a Mom. Her and her husband dated for 8 years before they married. They have been together 21 years. I have sympathy for him. And I feel bad for her. That would be a horrible, miserable life.

    Video editing, adding music, graphics, slides take lots of time! Brian locked Gabby out of the van in one incident. Her friend stated Brian was jealous and controlling. Gabby also became physical and scratched Brian’s face. His sister said they fought while living in Florida but always made up quickly. So sad that Gabby’s body was found yesterday. Police should have taken Gabby to the hotel and called her parents. But she was an adult so they did the best they could for a mental health crisis.
