I never listened to Black Label Society but I do know it was put together by Zakk Wylde. I appreciate that there was riffs and melodies, but nothing really with a hook, and yes I think metal songs can have hooks. Funny you mentioned the playback speed, when I play the most recent Metallica album at 1.5 it's much more interesting.
I also think the production is a bit sanitised making the opening riff, which is ok, lack power and punch. Can you imagine that opening riff with the production of say...6 degrees of inner turbulence album to pick an example, it'd sound much more effective.
With the intro at 1.25 it sounds like it could have been an intro of old Opeth. Listen to the chords and you know what I mean. For the rest at original speed it's an ok song, but I agree on your opinion. Too much of a status quo.
Hmmm the phrase 'weak tea' springs to mind. It's all a bit forgettable and lifeless. At 1.25 some life is injected into the proceedings but it's still lacking on any real hooks. Shame, as I bet they're all great musicians.
🤘🏼🔥🔥🔥

If you're a fan of BLS, Dark Chapel kicks ass. It's a Zakk thing and Dario is a great player and human.
Yeah, it's kinda bland. 1.25x is better as you said.

Great album cover, but a rather bland, forgettable song. This is ' do the dishes while admiring the geraniums out of the window' music. Cheers Hedgy.
That made me laugh out loud. I can't disagree either.
