  • #hayabusa #2021 Suzuki Hayabusa review, the New busa generation 3 is in new clothes, is the new hayabusa an improved hyperbike. I met up with a buddy and we went on a ride with the new hayabusa. Having a gen2 hayabusa for a real world road ride comparison. Which one would be your choice...
    Bike was provided by Suzuki motorcycles Via Johns of Romford, and I must say I was made to feel super welcome at the shop, the guys there share my passion for all things bikes, and they are clearly Gixser fans...GSXR 1300r

      UPDATE:
      November 2023: I have covered 4,000 miles on the gen 3 Hayabusa, and what a bike. More usable power band, the addition of cruise control is a godsend, brakes are better, and the QS is sublime. The only complaint has been the stock screen which directs air right at the place where you crack the visor open for fresh air, thus anything above 20mph means the visor needs to stay closed. An aftermarket screen for 2024 is a must.

    I had a gen 1 back in 1999 when they first came out and I would like a gen 3 but to be honest you can get a 2018 gen 2 with a couple of thousand miles on the clock for half the new price. I don't know if the new extras are worth the £8k extra and there might be quite a few more mint gen 2's coming up as the trade in's start to appear.

      I had a 2000 for 15 years. I used to commute up to 30,000miles a year in all weather for the first two years. Sold it 5 years ago when I moved house.
      I have just this month (September) bought a Gen 1 and a Gen 2, with both together costing a little over a third of a Gen 3.
      2003 has done 21,000miles and the 2008 has done 60,000miles - both in great nick. Gen 3 is in my future, I think. Great machines. 👍

    I agree with you all the way mate. Got myself a 2014 with Brembo ABS and only 1340 miles on it! It has not been used much in 9 years! Had to replace all the fluids in it and put a set of new tyres on as the originals (and I mean original) were expired! It now has a set of S22's on it ready for spring. That Akrapovich full system sounds lovely. I have a set of Yoshi R77 slipons on mine. They sound great also. Back end on the Gen 2 is way better looking than the new one in my opinion. I grew up with very twitchy 2 strokes (RD250LC, RD500LC, RGV250's) plus loads of carbed big motors such as GSXR1100, ZXR750, ZX9R and newer stuff like GSXR1000 K2 and K5 so learned how to use a throttle smoothly and in the correct time so the gadgets are not high on my list of priorities. I have the perfect weapon now. I ride smooth and have all the power I need when I need it. Hayabusa baby! 🤣🤣🤣🤣

      The new bike is better in so many ways, the power thing is subjective at best, basically because the 3 handles better and drives out of corners with so much more thrust it’s a much faster road bike. And I like the way it looks too, and the quality of finish is top notch. A strong looking bike too, aggressive without being Marvel Comic like... Nice vid & thoughtful review. I think you got it spot on & possibly a world first comparison for a question that will no doubt be asked countless times. Seems like Suzuki got it right despite the spec sheet naysayers who haven't ridden it obviously. The irony of all those people asking for a 1400cc 200bhp 'Busa (I was one lol although thought the turbo idea was daft) is that Kawasaki did exactly that with the ZX14 & then discontinued it so seemingly not the answer.

    • @36moto

      Cheers mate, if only I had a bigger following to date, but hey world first, that’s a first on its own... the Kawasaki H2r supercharged hyperbike is just bonkers and a little niche and v expensive, as a roadbike ide choose the Busa. In the real world, ridden on roads more cc or a turbo or s’charger would be just bling and if no use to be fair and would ace put the bike over £20k... thanks for watching and getting in touch. Its a great looking bike and a brilliant all rounder and you can definitely hustle it along. But even though it belies its weight with its handling it'll never be as nimble as the modern litre bikes. Something to consider (and I"m not trying to be a downer, but it's important for people who don't understand tuning to know). From what I saw, quiet aftermarket mufflers on the 2nd Generation Hayabusa decrease horsepower substantially, because the stock mufflers are not restrictive at all, and have 195 horsepower.
    The insane factory tune is compromised, as soon as you change the exhaust.
    Putting aftermarket mufflers on a Gen 2, will decrease power across the entire rev range, in most cases. Looking at dyno charts, I've seen only tiny improvements with some mufflers, but only if the baffles are completely removed, and there is always less torque at the low end, unless the ECU is reflashed.
    The 2nd Generation bike being rated at 195 HP has a scary perfect state of tune from the factory, with absolutely perfect fueling. The reason I mention this, is because the Gen 3 bike is supposed to have "more low end torque and throttle response."
    Since the comparison is based on low end performance, the only way to really know for sure which bike has better low end torque, is to use totally stock exhaust systems, on stock ECU's.
    Here is an example, of an aftermarket full exhaust system actually decreasing horsepower and torque across the entire rev range on a Hayabusa 2008.
    NOTE: At 3,500 rpms the aftermarket header and muffler produces 25 less horsepower than stock!!! That's a HUGE difference in driveability. www.solomotoparts.com/Yoshimura-Race-Single-R-55-Full-Exhaust-Hayabusa-08-19/

    • @36moto
      @36moto  3 года назад +1

      Hi pal, wow that is some cool response you know your stuff. And in a sense you are right, the only true comparison is to use stock bikes... however j didn't have one and my mate Olli offered his bike so I jumped at the chance... I am actually not a fan of after market exhaust systems just for the sake of it... years ago I used my GSXR k5 1000 as a test bed and tested 5 different end cans. The only one that proved better than the stock pipe was a yoshi tri-oval, the others either robbed bottom or top end.

    • @36moto
      @36moto  3 года назад

      Hi there, the hayabusa is certainly capable of running as a sports touring motorcycle, I suppose it’s all down to how you want to tour. Rider comfort is subjective at best and if the bike fits you and is comfortable for a few hours a day then crack on. Luggage is a tricky one but there are so many options out there now there will be a setup that meets your needs. My best advice is not to pigeonhole any bike before you’ve tried it. For a road only trip a hayabusa would be a hoot, if it fits ... 👍

    A little bit of info, not that useful for normal road use, but anyway. When the journalists tested the thing in South of France (on the Castellet circuit, and on the twisties nearby), they had the pegs (no surprise), the exhaust cans and the fairing dragging on the floor (on track I mean). But they loved it, also in the twisties.

    • @36moto
      @36moto  3 года назад

      Hi there Fabian, the hayabusa loves to be raced... but remember journos don’t pay for them that’s why they were dragging the pegs, exhaust and body panels on the floor, it makes for good photos, I would have given the bike a good workout too if I had been on the circuit.
      The new busa handles so well it would have been great to get to a track and do a bit of scratching but I didn’t fancy the repair bill... the day before I tested this bike it was dropped by a customer who was charged £1400 for some very minor damage. (one exhaust can £900) thanks for watching ...

    • @jfro5867
      @jfro5867 3 года назад +2

      @@36moto plus let’s not forget the journo’s are invited there to basically give a very positive impression of the bike. If they don’t then guess what they will be blackballed by Suzuki. So you cannot take what they said as ‘true’. These reviews are much more useful because you can say what you think without pressure from your paymasters and of course riding on the road at normal speeds is much more useful. Well done.

    You can't really compare these side by side by dawdling around the shops and along country lanes best suited for 400cc to 650cc bikes. The Hayabusa is best at crunching motorway or preferably Autobahns, and maybe long distance sweeping, open B roads.
    As for looks, the gorgeous, Buck Rogers tail of the gen 2 seals it as the better looking bike by some margin, and is easily identifiable as a 'busa' when behind it. The gen 3 rear is lame and uninspired.

    • @36moto
