The thing is that many of the other songs that TOOL covers sound alot like tool. There were probably a lot of these specific types of bands that have almost an identical type of music. But TOOL has been the most successful out of all of these bands
I think it's more that they've just covered it in their own style really well. Danny's drumming and the the tone of the bass, guitar and Maynard's haunting vocals are what make it sound like Tool imo.

I just heard this in 2022. I’ve been listening to Kyuss for a long time and I am a huge tool fan and have been for a while. I can’t believe I’ve heard this for the first time.
They are finally back in the studio! I saw them at the gorge, arguably one of the best venues in the country, back in 06 and to this day the best show I've ever seen. No acid trip has lived up to the natural high I got seeing that view accompanied by their music.
First time I've seen tool live was back in 2017 with primus and I felt more of a spiritual presence in one night compared to being forced to go to church for years... after that music is my religion
This is a Reeder and Fredo jam that Garcia put vocals to. Homme's melodies were an afterthought. Kyuss wrote as jam sessions. Homme was a piece in the machine.
Only when I first heard this version I realised how much Demon Cleaner sounds like an actual Tool song.
