If you feel too much stress no your shoulders it's because you are pulling with your arms instead of your lats. The whole movement should start from your core rolling, then pull with your lats and the arms should follow adding just and extra push. Explainning this is complicated, but what i've found that not good swimmers tend to be sore from the shoulders when the good ones are sore from The lats. It's pretty suttle but make a lot of difference.
For anyone wondering, it looks like Taren is using a Size Medium in the Finis Agility paddle - you can tell from the two black dots at the bottom of the paddle (one dot is Size S, two dots is Size M, etc.)
Me and my two daughter all use the ability paddles becsuse they come in different sizes from small to large. The first time they took them to their swim club their, ex Olympic swimmer, coach took one look and gave them both a smile and approving nod. They are great for kids because the lack of straps makes them easy to put on and they are pretty unbreakable.
I love the speedo paddles great to learn and practice confident strokes and upper body strength before I couldn't even do freestyle and I dont use them at all now so I would say great for beginners
With your go to apparently you can watch your entry and the two long prongs at back produce bubbles if the hand enters wrong..If the hand slides in "NO" bubbles...
The freestyler is great. It was the first paddle that improved my freestyle the greatest, from novice to intermediate. Agility paddle is helpful but doesn't improve your technique as much as the freestyler does.
with the one with only your thumb, it doesn't flop when you bring your arm out of the water? Do you have to squeeze against your thumb to hold it in place?
Triathlon Taren I have a follow up question. I am thinking of buying the agility paddles but cannot find a place near me that sells them and where I can check for size. So I need to order over the internet. Do you have any recommendations regarding size? Finis homepage just says hand scale with 3 measurements... Thanks a lot and greetings from Germany!
Why do you leave your mesh bag of stuff in the wire box at the poolside rather than take it home? I like to rinse the chlorine water off everything and dry it between sessions but am a total swim beginner so maybe am missing something vital here ....never seen such wire boxes in the public pools here except for the kit coaches use in teaching.
Laziness, convenience... plus our group has its own box on the pool deck so why not use it? I don't want to lug more stuff back and forth than I need to. Nothing in my bag has suffered from not being rinsed every time, and if something does, it's all cheap stuff so I'll just buy new.
Someone stole my paddles, similar to your traditional scoop style, from the pool deck about a month ago, and I really haven't missed them (don't tell the thief!). Those agility paddles are making me want to get back into the paddle game. Although I do love swimming without toys. There's something satisfying about leaving for the pool with only my suit, a towel, and a pair of goggles.
Off the top of my head, the iso paddles don’t have as much resistance as the agility paddles. So you’re not gonna be building as much muscle with the iso paddles. But I’m going to revise this after I try them out. I got the iso paddles just right now. Hopefully I’ll be able to edit this with more information. I used to use the agility paddles, but I lost them. Then I went to the pointy ones. I’m going to order my second pair of agility paddles right now. I was waiting for my special tape measure to measure my hand.
Hey Taren I know I should probably just see my doctor about this but I thought you would know. I've had a very uncomfortable side stitch (even when I'm not exercising which is strange because I never get them) for the past week which I think may be related from swimming. Do you think you can pull your diaphragm from swimming (especially during the catch phase)? Appreciate your help.
Hey KM -- I am really hesitant to say anything other than, go see your doctor about this. Or at the very least, an Athletic Therapist or Osteopath to see if they can feel anything wrong in the region. I honestly couldn't tell you about pulling a diaphragm or not, but if you hav e a pain all the time even when not exercising, that's something for a doc to check out, just to be safe.
I tried those and personally did not like them because the one size fits all was not great for my bigger hands, the part where your middle finger goes onto the paddle felt too small. I also could not feel any significant (isolating different muscle) difference between them and the ability paddles.

@5:55 keeping your fingers slightly apart (ideally 32mm) does indeed increase your hand surface area

Appreciate the video. Thinking about getting a set of paddles from Finis and this helped me make up my mind on what to purchase. Thank you.

Nice commentary, appreciate the review

Great review....thanks.

Hi Taren, Which size Finis Agility did you test ? M ?
What about the Iso Paddles from Finis? How to they stack up? I am torn between those and the agility on ease of use, basically.
Would you say the agility paddle makes the effort slightly harder than swimming with out?

Hey Mango... I'm not sure, to be honest. Your best bet would be to contact Finis through their website and ask about sizing.
Hi mango, got mine on Amazon
Tried the Orca Flat Paddle?
Hello Taren , what is your opinion for the finis fulcrum ?
Hey Taren, another great video... let us know when you get ready to sell those old swim paddles :-)
LOL... the cost of shipping would be more than the cost of the paddles.
Which is better recommendation between Agility HAND PADDLES and ISO PADDLES? thanks:)
Agility

Sorry to hear you had to deal with thievery!

Why is empty the swimming pool?
The last one looks more natural ... I think I would go for what feels right

KM Could it be food related? If so, try cutting out dairy.
