I have this Taco/Khaya set up as well, mine is 8200 lbs so don't use 488 gears if you put 35's on, go 529. The Tacoma is not designed for this payload so you will need to really build up the suspension. The design is fantastic but you really need a V8 in my opinion, especially with that heavy bumper. Also add heavy duty disc brakes!
Building the suspension up does not increase payload, you cannot increase payload or GVWR. Any increase in weight through suspension upgrades, tires, wheels, etc. must be deducted from payload. The Tacoma is not a Hilux, and putting the Khaya on a Tacoma is stupid.
That trucks payload isn't high enough for this, is it? Especially with 2 passengers and 25 gallon tank (which adds roughly 250 lbs)? And all the additional racking and lights?
This is a complicated answer, since there is no option in the United States to update the vehicle’s original payload like other countries around the world have done. Overseas, countries will factor in upgrades to suspension, brakes, sway bars, and tires as a payload increase to handle the added weight of many of our touring accessories. On the Tacoma, we are typically adding much higher capacity suspensions, tires, and brakes to help improve the vehicle’s driving characteristics.
What dose a set up like that run? That is exactly what I’m looking for for my 4 door long bed Tacoma The only Alu cab dealer where I’m at sucks. Please help me out.
Thank you for your questions! The Khaya Basic starts at around 16K and the Khaya Campers start at around 32K. It really just depends on what you're looking for. Feel free to reach out to our sales team for more info at sales@ashevillevehicleoutfitters.com
Good Lord, when I was young I had a green VW beetle, sleeping bag, and an A frame 2 person tent. Everything fit on my backpack--guess I was "roughing it"
how do you want to fill that diesel tank? there is no room to get any kind of nozzle in there. Why use a electric water heater over a propane water heater when you already have onboard propane? No need to run the truck and its instant hot water. Of course that diesel heater is cheaper to install than the propane heater but with propane already being available onboard you could delete the need for diesel and run all of off one source (propane)! You also cant get the tent heated when you fold down the complete bed area. What this whole camper seems to be missing is a toilet. What i would like to know more about is how the camper is insulated (R ratings). Especially the Tent fabric insulation. Are there sheets you can add?
Alu-Cab recommends using a funnel to fill the diesel tank. You can also fill it directly with a nozzle from a diesel pump using care. The electric water heater is reliable / efficient and can be powered indefinitely by idling the vehicle to limit the need for any additional fuel sources. The tent canvas is a dual layer fabric and in conjunction with the diesel heater stays quite warm. Heat will still move up from the lower level with the bed platforms lowered. Full-size standard sheets will do the trick for the primary mattress.

It isn't complicated, this truck is over capacity. You cannot increase payload, and every pound you add in upgrades, people, and gear takes a pound off payload. The Hilux and Rangers overseas, have almost double the payload from factory.

Yes, that is now an option.
To clarify, you have to have the truck running for the hot water heater to work?
Yes, that is true. You have to have the truck running for the hot water heater to work.
What does the camper shown in the video cost?
Filling that diesel tank must be fun- its what, 6 feet off the ground??
That trucks payload isn't high enough for this, is it?

Will these fit in a Gladiator?
No, there is currently no Khaya that will fit a Gladiator. Our customers usually go for the Canopy or the Canopy Camper.
