About:
Jason and Lorraine. In 2016 we sold most of our belongings and left the city in southern California to start a small homestead in the mountains of North Carolina. We left the city in search for a more minimal and intentional life. We became passionate about growing our own food and knowing what exactly is in our food after I (Jason) became diagnosed with cancer. Now 8 years in remission we as a family are on a journey to live our passions.
We document our life on RUclips videos to inspire others to get out of their comfort zone and not be afraid of change. We started our own online general store where we have available the things we make and use in real life. Thank you for following us on this incredible life changing journey!

I ordered one for my son's B.Day.
He's gonna love it. Great quality material & I love what it says & represents! Y'all are soo fun! Love Art & Bri's channel also!
What I find to be ironic is just how much MORE sanitary you can be processing your own meat in your backyard. It’s without a doubt the best way in every aspect! Y’all are doing great work on sow the land.
I totally agree. This is a great setup.
Like your way you pray and thank god for everything b4 you start the work..
This is about the calmest, cleanest, most efficient chicken butchering set up station I've seen.
Props to you guys.
One of my goals to be more self sufficient and learning how to do this.
the butchering is easy if you have a plucker the hard part is keeping your chickens alive to the butcher date
Great to see the community helping each other such great families in
You are the first family I have ever seen on RUclips that give thanks to our god before butchering I just love your family that's why God will always take care of you and your family God bless you I do believe a few more people could take that lesson and learn something for me oh I just love your family because you love our father
This was fascinating to watch. Love how the kids are involved in the process. Too many kids these days have no idea where their food comes from!
I grew up on a chicken farm, 3000 chickens. They would chop off the heads and the chicken would run up a tree. We did the hot water dip and then plucked by hand.
I didn't see how you killed your chickens, but your setup was so organized. I am sure you were as gentle as you could be in killing them. I thought saying a prayer was equally as thoughtful.
Love your show, love your family, love your methods.
Great video. I also, like your relaxed way, that you all work on your farm and butchering. Thanks for sharing. That was a huge clap of thunder!
I have to say that the community you build as fellow homesteaders is truly one of my absolute favorite parts of this lifestyle!
I agree. I live in an urban neighborhood, and if it weren't for my front yard garden, I would probably only know my husband's family members that live by me.
Sweet of Art & Bri to help out too! Love Art & Bri and all the little ones too! God Bless You All Too For All That You Do To Help Everyone In So Many Ways!
Yay thanking the Lord. 🙏🏼 praise the almighty for everything we have...❤️
Amen
Thanking the family for giving thanks to God the Almighty !!! God bless and protect you !!!
I used to help a woman that kept us, that had huge chicken farm. She used a clothes line and would do a bunch at a time. We got the awesome task of plucking them for some reason 😳 Was very educational, just like your videos. Bring back a lot of memories. Especially getting whacked by roosters and hens. 😁 Your process is more refined than 45 years ago. 😉
I loved watching this. And esp the begining giving Thanks to God.
Hi..... Jason and Lorraine nice to see you, thank you for sharing your video homestead chicken farmer garden 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 🐔🐓🐥🌱🎥👍👍👍
I think its so cool you are friends with Art & Bri. I just recently found your channel and I have been watching theirs for a while now. So cool!
Wow! So impressed with your process. Nice to see your family giving thanks. Much respect.☺🌻
Watching this makes me feel like I would be able to do this. I'll be watching more of your videos for sure
The cat is out of the bag about the National Heirloom Expo in Santa Rosa. Dancing the " Happy Dance "!
Wonderful ❣️ to see Art and Bri 💙 Butchering with "Sow the Land" This was such a Beautiful Moment on your Homestead. Are you all up for the....EPIC DANCE...
#GitUpChallenge?!!
Those kids are going to grow up with a much healthier appreciation for food than the majority of Americans ever will.
We just did 100 in our back yard. Wow what a day that was!
I started watching homesteader videos about a year ago and am amazed that somehow I am following your neighbors too. Nice!
It thrilled me to see you all pause and thank the Lord first. Well done!
Great video of chicken butchering day. Nice demo and explanation of steps. You end up with a freezer full of food you grew and as you said, you know what went into them. Lorraine’s apron is really cute and practical. Good job cleaning your bicycle, Penelope. Its nice to have friends who help lighten the load.
I have processed chickens most of my 62 years and I learned a few things from yall. Thank you!!
So very nice for your friends to visit and to jump in and help. I'm sure the smaller ones will be roaster size soon. Thank you for sharing.
I've watched a few chicken butchering videos, and this one had more detail and explanation than any I've seen.
(Loved Bri's apron back design. Very unusual!)
Keep up the good work in making these videos! ~ Kir in Tennessee
Bri was wearing what you call a "Roo Apron". VERY handy for working out in the garden!
Did we watch the same video? They didn’t show half the process. Just the nice parts and little of that even. Video was a waste of time. What was they doing? Trying to rosy glow butcher day or teach how to wash a bike? It’s nothing like this. It’s gross bloody and tiring. Great job guys for giving wrong impression. Don’t bother you’ll learn more from a book.
@@maxwell47real15 guess you never learned manners........if you can't say anything nice.........MOVE ON, There are lots of other channels out there.. They don't show the whole thing because you tube will take down the video because the cry babies out in the world don't want to see that part of it. If you think you can do better........have at it, oh thats right.......you don't have a channel, you just criticize others while hiding behind your computer screen.
I wish I had a family near me to help to butcher chickens. A Great trade off when sharing. 👍😀
such an organic and interesting channel
Looked like a smooth moving operation, great video!
Great Video. PRE-preparation is very important the day before and then doing a dry run as to who will do what is important. We just did our first time…24 Cornish Cross with 6 people each one doing a specific job. It went like clock work.❤
Learned something new about adding a drop of dish detergent to the water to help release the feathers. Thanks for the tip- I love how ya'll say a prayer before the butchering! We bought that EZplucker 10 years ago when we started raising our meat birds. It's well worth the money.
You make it look so easy. I want to do this so bad! I don't want steroids and chemicals in my food anymore!!! Arghhhhh! Thank you so much for caring n sharing!! You're family is awesome.
Alrighty, you’ve inspired me and my husband! Thank you for the information!!! God bless
I love how connected you are to the land and how it can provide for you. I watch your videos & it makes me so happy to see your family reaping the benefits of your labor. Many blessings ❤
I absolutely love how humble and kind ya'll are 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰 beautiful butchering job!!!!
We have discovered a great way to raise our tables a few inches which helps tremulously on everyone’s backs. (Art could probably benefit since he is tall and has the baby on his back.) Cut (measured) lengths of plastic piping to put on each leg of the table. Raising the table a bit helps so you don’t have to lean slightly forward while processing the birds.
Thanks for the video. We are processing tomorrow!
~ Mark & Tammy
Great job you guys! Y'all have such a laid back easy going personality and always so helpful. I'm glad to see someone helping you guys!
Tanya Parker
We purchased our chicken coops today thank you again for all your advice havtm forgotten about your lovely family channel👍🏾😎❤️
Great video - my first chicken processing video. Makes one appreciate what goes into the offerings at the local farmers market. Thanks for doing what you do.
Love the video! Trying to learn all we can about this process. As we are considering raising chickens for meat and I have been apprehensive about it. Love that you give thanks to the Lord for the lives the chickens were basically giving for you. Idk, it just gives respect for living things and acknowledging the sacrifices. Hope I’m not being weird but that’s what it said to me.
Nice I can't wait to try the freedom rangers.
Great butchering setup, very relaxed and details explained. I used to get a little stressed during meat processing day. Thumbs-up
Shalom! Wow a chicken party, the Sow the Land Family and Art, Bree and the children...what fun. Thank you for sharing with us all and blessings to each one of your families!
I knew your calm demeanor wasn't just a fluke...you've got the grace of God on you 😊 love it!
That was amazing. I really love to see that you took a moment to thank the Lord for what he's given you. That is so important, and not a lot of RUclips channels share that. Great going, thanks for sharing your homesteading journey with us,
Jimmy
That’s really the only reason to process your own..You had total control how well the birds are raised..What they eat and the environment they live in matters.
GOOD JOB NICE THAT U HAD HELPERS LOVE YOUR SET UP WE ARE AMOST THERE THANK U FOR THE VIDO
So much easier and fun when doing it with such good friends! Love you folks!! Both families.
Nice harvest, I love farm raised chickens!!! It's great to have like minded homestead friends help with the harvest.
We have raised our own Cornish cross for 3 or 4 years now. I love seeing your setup.
My friend puts a straw in the top for the air to come out, then pulls it out when she zip ties the opening, when she seals them up. Great video!
Yard raised chickens are so delicious. Thanks for sharing!
Great video man. I love to see what yal do with the chicken feet.
So good to see all y’all working together & enjoying it. Art & Bri, like y’all, are wonderful people. Love the homesteading community y’all have developed. Everybody helping each other. I really enjoy your channel. Love & Hugs from Vicki in Ft. Worth, Texas 🇨🇱
I agree........calmest most organized, efficient butchering I have watched too. Great Job you guys.
Loved the video and your channel. Perfect apron for butchering chickens Loraine. It's nice to have a harvest, but not be worn out, good amount for the people present. Thanks for sharing guys.
AWESOME!!!!!!! Hope to do this one day. Family is watching with me and learning how to do this on a bigger scale. Very nice and clean operation. Love and Blessings from Texas.
Super happy to see this skill passed onto the next generation! ❤️🌱
We love your channel and the way you guys do things ... even through these “crazy times” we are staying motivated because do families like yours. God bless!!
My dad was a butcher and had a plucker. Made our hundred chickens go fast. Seven in the morning to about two in after noon.
Loved your family prayer before butchering chickens. You made this a good experience for me.
*CONGRATULATIONS, LITTLE PRINCESS WASHING THE BIKE. RED GREEN*
Subscribed. Love that you gave thanks as a family. Look forward to watching more videos as we are beginning our homestead journey.

I like your pink bath concept.
Lovely Family, Love watching your videos❤️❤️❤️
Thanks for the video! Helpful to see a simple set up that seems pretty attainable as far as costs go
The best processing video i have seen. LOVE the way Lorrrene explains the gutting clean out....just awesome.opps wrong video it is with Mike and Lacy i love so much...this one is great also.
I have watching you in Justin vlog, you guys are very amazing person, always nice to see the community helping each other. want to learn also from you about farming.
Thank you for praying and giving thanks to our Lord. God's blessing to you and yours
Thanks for appreciating the birds. This was a great video.
Cool. Just learned how to shrink wrap chickens.
YOUVE INSPIRED ME TO DO THIS I WILL PROCESS MY CHICKENS NEXT WEEK! EXCITED. 15 CORNISH CROSS
I really agree with you on the giving thanks comments. Enjoyed the video.👍🏻Thanks👍🏻
I love the videos where you guys get together with other youtubers I am familiar with. Great video
Have you thought about using a shopvac to suck the air out of the shrink-wrap bag before shrinking it? That is what a professional Cryovac machine does. It doesn't seem to be any more difficult than poking the hole in the bag and needing a sticker. You could plumb a clean clear vinyl tube to the end of the hose to keep it all clean. Just a suggestion.
Always good to have help.
Love to see faith, and prayer before the work.
Did our spring crop over the last couple days. 20 birds is a full day's job for two of us.
Cada vez que veo sus video aprendo mucho no voy a dejar de verlos los felicito Dios los bendiga!!
I am the one who repeats your video after few months
What a loving family! Keep the videos coming.
Nice big plump birds very delicious, thanks for sharing
Love this reminds me of my Nanna & Grandpa 💚💚⭐️⭐️
God bless you more bro. Above all things, be thankful to Him 🙂🙏
Very informative video. I have a private Chicken Husbandry Playlist, and this video has gone in that. Thanks so much. I especially love the prayer beforehand because all things come from God. Ame! Blessings to your family.
Love the channel. Felt great seeing your beautiful family at prayer. God Bless
A new subscriber here. I also subscribe among others to the Art and Bri channel as well as the Justin Rhodes channel. I live in the mountains of central PA but do not homestead myself. Age and ailments keep me from doing it any more. Isn't just amazing the generosity of homesteaders whether it is an object animal or their time just to help you do a big job. That is what life should be. I rejoice in you giving thanks in a prayer also.
Great video guys. And god bless y’all
I also like that you know what conditions it was processed under.
Welp, didn't think it was possible but ya'll made that look like fun. Thanks for sharing.
Having friends over does help for sure. thanks
I like how coolers coming good job you bring community together good job
In the old days we always butchered in the fall while temperatures were crisp.
that would be ideal. how many would you butcher at once?
I just love the apron and a job well done
yes i would love to know where she got it from. we just did ours as well...
