This series is by far my favorite devlog series. It does such a good job of showing the process behind making a game. I'm really excited for this game Jonas. Keep it up!
Senseiii
I love the art style and simplicity of this game. Both of your artstyles are AWESOME. I love the feel of the ramp and will you snail -- so unique yet different. I will probably get this game at some point, once it has released. Wishlisted! 😀
Thanks for the support and kind words. Much appreciated!!
@@JonasTyroller Love your stuff dude. Also thank you so much for commenting on the trailer to my game. Truly, I cannot thank you enough
And the fact that they can just change artstyles like that...
Like, the last time I tried to draw lineless art it looked horrible 💀
But ,yeah, good work jonas and paul :)
This start being my #1 devlog series now.. keep doing the good work and we don't mind if the video is more longer. Big progress!
Aw. Thanks. :)
Seeing the progress you made is insane. I can see this becoming successful, good job Jonas :)
EDIT: I've noticed the release date is Q2 2023, let's hope that it doesn't get WYS'd :p
I can't keep deadlines like this working alone, that's for certain. We'll see if it's different in a team. :D
even worse if it got karlson'd
I really hope you do something to distinguish this from the billion other kingdom building games out there. Really excited for more devlogs!
Dear jonas... YOU NEED TO BECOME MORE FAMOUS! You are absolutely fabulous at editing, entertaining and of course at CREATING GAMES! You can grow so much more, but seriously, you need to become more famous so more people can notice how good you are!
Current level of "fame" seems to be sufficient to make a living, so I'm more than content. Thanks for the kind words, though! :)
@@JonasTyrollerI’m just happy to see you doing so well! You’re such a happy and creative person, and we want nothing but the best for you ❤
I am agree with him you are so much funnier then you think
@@JonasTyroller DU MUSST JETZT BERÜHMTER WERDEN, SACK ZEMENT!
I totally agree I found Jonas a few weeks ago and im surprised he only has 155k subs.
Honestly, the prototype with square trees still looks amazing! You're very talented and you really NEED more atention. Keep up the great work!
The excitement that hits when your video comes out!!!
Dude, this is fricking awesome. Lately, I've really been struggling with motivation and ideas in my game dev journey, but I think you just awakened the brainstorming, idea-having genius in me! Thank you so much, man!
I love your devlogs! The game already looks promising, good job guys 💪
Thank you! :)
Aspiring to see you jump into a new project right after releasing Will you Snail. Learned a lot from you in the past year.
Haha wow that's my game at 4:12! :D So random seeing it pop up in here, wish I could go back and fix everything with it!
Your game looks much better, I really liked this style of devlog, good luck with the game! Wishlisted! :)
as a miro enthusiast i'am impressed how neat and structured you keep your project going at miro.
Fantastic work, guys! It's always super inspiring to see your progress. I'm looking forward to the next devlog!
Oh man I love how the game is coming together and I can already image how beautiful this game can look in the future with the right art direction!
Thank you for sharing the process and everything with us , this is super inspiring for me and i wish you guys an amazing journey !
Rooting for you guys, this looks awesome!
Nice work to the two of you! Love the sound and look of the game! :D
Very much so liked the fact you got that text popup saying where enemies are coming from!
(Maybe later you could have a trumpet dude announce it 👀)
I love seeing the entire process! Thanks for Sharing!
Videos like this are sooo inspiring for indie gamedev newcomers like me =D.
Thank you for sharing this.
And yes ! WIshlisted !
Thank you. :)
Fantastic! I love the shift into isometric camera.
Nice devlog. Loving the music choices, too!
I'm really excited to see what is gonna become of this
This would be a terrifically fun online multiplayer battle game! It looks wonderful so far!
I just saw the mini trailer on steam and i wish i didnt cause now im even more excited, i really love the art direction you choosed and your game already looks really awesome!
it's looking really cool so far! I also like the art style :D
Amazing work Jonas! I'm really looking forward to playing this game 🙌
Seems like you'd need a fast and compatible Creative Director 😁
If you watch One Piece, see the individual crew members as the different developers. You need a captain (creative director), a navigator (game designer), a vice captain (technical director), a marketing manager, a programmer, an artist, etc. ...
Great video as always Jonas, love that I can see the thought patterns in the editing
Great job man, this is looking really good! I know it took some work to get to this point but from the looks of it all of that is paying off :)
Wow, you did an excellent job of showing off the development of this game so far. Looks like it's coming along great! I'll wishlist for sure.
Such a cool idea and art style. Wishlisted!
Perfect editing and great video!
I love the folk music at the end of the video! I can imagine the game sounding really brilliant with some upbeat welsh folk music in the background as waves of enemies attack! Great progress so far- keep it up! :)
i loved will you snail and i trust you to make great games! wishlisted!!
A fantastic devlog! Inspiring work here.
I think a cool compromise for the attack system could be having a button that toggled between your types of attacks, but keeps the auto attack from vampire survivors intact. That could also allow for some delicious SCOPE CREEP for the character to gain more attacks other than arrow and sword.
Been watching for years, excited for this project to keep growing.
This was super helpful. Watching you both in the prototyping stage and then seeing how you plan out not just the game but also the timeline is really helpful. One of the big mistakes we make as indie game devs is not being realistic with timelines and the amount of content, so planning out the game start to finish keeps you honest and helps to avoid feature creep (hopefully). And the fact that you are still using placeholder art well into the game development process is also really inspiring. Everyone does this differently but it's still helpful to see those different styles
It's insane to see how you guys went through this whole game making thing SO FAST! I bet you lost a bit of your sanity through the process, but to be honest as a indie gamedev myself... we're a little insane...
You're a big inspiration Jonas! Keep it up and I can't wait for Thronefall to be out! Wishlisting it right now.
Devlog is only counting active work days. We usually do 4 days of Thronefall per week, so this devlog covers ~5-6 weeks of development. :)
@@JonasTyroller That's still a lot!! 😱
Amazing job! l hope this game manages to stand out as Will you Snail did for some point!
The music at the end of the video sounds so good! Can’t wait to see how the game ends up!
I've been watching your videos for a long while, years by now i Imagine, and I'm super excited about this project! Loving the devlogs, they're fun and show a process I really enjoy
Awesome. Thanks for sticking with me!! :)
Loving this new style of videos.
i love your videos tbh, they always make my day better just because of your positive attitude. keep it up !
This looks really cool, can't wait!!!
I like it!, I will suscribe to see more advances in your proyect ^^
Totally agree with the commenters saying to slow down from time to time! These devlogs are so good but they go so fast! Probably my favourite series on RUclips right now so I wouldn't mind a bit more of it 😄
6:41 I quite like the art style of the blockout, it reads very clear. Overall it is a great base to move forwards with, this series looks very promising!
I love how the development is going so far! I hsve a feeling that this will be your best game yet. I'm gonna watch every devlog until release and I can't wait to play it on my pc.
Ayy, Thronefall was my favorite name :) I love the art style, and also the editing in this video!
Very cool and inspiring! Keep it up!
I started making my own board game so I have like a bajillion different ideas for units
Here's some of the ones that might fit well into a base defense game:
A log roller that can yeet logs at enemies, which could destroy both ally and enemy troops
A sled that you can use as the player to quickly transport ally troops to enemy archers or something like that
A bomb carrier, like the one in lotr who has a bomb and runs as fast as they can to BOOOM. bomb can destroy all troops
A sniper, probably would just fit as an enemy who sits far (but in sight of the player) and damages walls/buildings
A berserker who is fast and targets the player
There could also be landmarks that you could take advantage of, like a mountain you can cause a landslide on, or a river that can slow down troops.
There's lots of potential in this game, I wish you guys luck with all the inevitable bugs that come along with it!
Absolutely a joy to watch this after downloading your game yesterday :D
This is exactly the type of game I love to play. Makes me super hyped! Best of luck with the project!
3:03 “howl” -johnas tyroller
Damn art style is so appealing, good luck on the game!
Such an entertaining video. Looking forward to what this game will turn into🤩.
Amazing gamedev content! Always make me wanna get into game development myself! Keep it up 👍
Would love to learn about your music creation process for this one.
Awesome job! Keep it up!
This prototype is already exciting! Very neat direction you both are taking this in so far. Also, people thinking this game is just Kingdom is hilarious. It makes me think of every time a person who sees a voxel game think that the game is automatically a Minecraft clone.
It sounds fun to be able to indefinitely upgrade my castle. Cool devlog!
aaaaah this looks sick!! im so hyped =D
1:17 I love this humorous side of you xD
Maybe "siege knights"? Its a play on words because the sieges occur at night, and perhaps you could have a giant leader of eaxh army that are called "siege knights".
After several nights of fighting off armies, the siege knight appears and is the boss of that area?
Idk, i love the creative aspect of game making
Great inspiration for Gamedevs. Thank you very much.
To be honest I had no idea the game was supposed to have multiple levels until this devlog - it looks a lot more exciting now xD The art style is very nice and the gameplay looks like a lot of fun! I'm really interested to see where it goes in the future.
Always a joy to watch!
I love how the game looks! I wishlisted.
I still really want that VR game prototype you showed, it had so much potential
Thronefall definitely felt like the best name of the options :) looks great! I can't believe how much you guys accomplish in such a short time!
It's more time than it looks like cause the devlog only counts active work days and for Thronefall we have about 4 of those per week. :)
I also love Definitely not Kingdom !
yeah, the other names all sounded fairly generic, thronefall sounds the most unique
no way ive been waiting for AGES for something that looks remotly like this! amazing!
awesome video! this game also gives me mad becastled vibes
Loving these devlogs!! I think the shadows look a bit harsh, perhaps lowering their contrast would give it more of a chill vibe and warm atmosphere.
Roguelike it: when you lose, your castle becomes a ruin which you build upon.
Walls can become a hill, wooden buildings grow trees via fertilizing the ground. Maybe some RNG landscape changes like river path. Some enemy units can cause terrain changes like building ramps or damage craters.
Opportunity for cool lore and/or mild story-like elements, why do people keep building a castle here? Family history, religion, magic node?
Sidenote: nighttime is probs good and cheap, but smthn like a magic eclipse could be more visually and thematically unique. This would make the kingdom building feel like a years long process within game rather than just a few days. Also many games do simple day/night. Might help differentiate your game
This is inspiring. Love it!
You should add a couple giant boss monsters like a dragon or a giant or a huge troll or something.
For later levels, obviously.
This is both inspiring and demotivating since I'm making a little game with some similar features, but you are making it way faster 😅
Looking great!
This devlog is enchanting 👀
THIS IS FINISHEDD! Was so relatable I laughed out loud XD
its looking really good my guy
The player character on the the horse is great fun. Maybe the enemy leader can be on a horse as well. Maybe some more mountains, hills and valleys in the terrain would be nice. The color scheme is very clear, you could think of some more subtle color variations here and there, think of clouds, mist, rain, shining objects. High objects and trees can give extra 3D-depth to the scene. I assume this may be pollish for later. I'm looking forward to what this game will become.
Added to wishlist! I especially like that there are destroyed ruins left after your buildings (as seen on steam), though it would be nice in the future if it was more distinguishable what was there before, like why is a destroyed farm consisting of rocks? It definitely looks like the right choice of art style.
Zooming in and out would be a welcome feauture to.
4:55 i can't believe that the bean from karlson made a crossover with this game.
Dear Jonas, your video is always very inspirational. And I bet you guys are doing good because I'm already seeing Thornefall advertisement here in Taiwan!
Bro this is amazing!
video was uploaded 30 seconds ago 😵💫😵💫
@@kjellbeats Do you think I would say something like this in 30 seconds without watching? You know, I'm 45 minutes from the future and I already watched it!
@@wonderincgames 😵💫
I love the isometric style and the simple gameplay, I want to try it out already.
I think "Your Mom's Castle" should stick around as an easter egg too
now THIS game is unique and I love it..
the music throughout the video is very cool
When I play or watch games I call it "research" as well ;}
Great devlog!
I really liked the pacing of this video, also nice game so far.
This looks SUPER fun! I really like tower defense games, so this will be really interesting!
You burst my eardrums at the start of the video so I was quite mad at you but I haven't laughed this much at a devlog, and you weren't even trying to be funny. I don't care too much about the game but I'm hooked lol.
Really like the slowdown moment!
Looks amazing, I can’t wait to play this game.
So far everything looks great, I have one thing I think you could improve. The camera right now is quite far from the player so it might be uncomfortable to look and play
Love watching you go, really inspiring, really impressive.
I am wondering if there is an exploration aspect, specifically whether you'll be seeing the same scene in front of you the entire level and then move to the next through a menu? or will it be organic, simply being strong enough or whatever to be able to ride farther and discover new places . I get the feeling that this might be beyond the scope of the game, or just not what its about... The video just got my imagination going.
Hmm. Very cool idea, but probably out of scope, yeah. :D
Looks awesome!!! WISHLISTED!!
Thank you!! :)
I am already excited for this game!
When I saw the first video I actually thought that this was explaining how the development of "Kingdom" started (the video just popped up on my feed and I didn't check anything), took me a while to realise that the video was recent and it was impossible
Love the progress, it’s looking really cool. In terms of art: I’m wondering if it might look cool with a grass shader, although this would obviously be harder to optimize with the zoomed out perspective
great devlog. I personally think that you should make the game as interactive and immersive as possible since the art style and the atmosphere it creates will be a big seller for the game. good luck on your games, it looks great, maybe you should experiment on a deadcells type combat system or something more automated with traps and stuff?
