Thank you so much for the review. i will check when I go to the Lion Brand Outlet, I will probably going in November this year. I only by mill ends, books, etc. The yarn if it's doing well and is new is the same price as the web site except no shipping but we do have tax in NJ. I always go with an open mind and almost no money limit! My birthday is in September but this year we are going around November. I'll keep everyone posted!

I wish I had seen this review before buying some. You are so right in your conclusions. Its too thick. I think it would have been better if it was a regular bulky not a super bulky. I tried it knit, crocheted and continuous strand weaving and it was not great in any of these attempts. Live and learn. lol I will find a use for it someday.

Yeah if they had ditched a few plies it might have been a bit easier to work with and split a lot less too. It basically has no twist to it so it ends up being like a plied and not twisted yarn. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for the straightforward review. As you spoke of the splitting, it was obvious on the pot holder and it did not look very attractive. I think Lion Brand should put you in a test council, prior to their next yarn creations.

That would be interesting and certainly a cheaper way to do these reviews ;) Thanks for watching!

It really was too bad because it's so interesting, but it just was too splitty to recommend. Thanks for watching!

I'm just now knitting a dishcloth with this yarn, which is, I agree, very splitty, and the dying was flawed, with white spots appearing in the gray yarn. I'm using larger needles than called for as cotton tends to shrink up with washing. I was planning to knit the cloth as a gift, but fear the user will be plagued by pulls and broken plies. I'll keep the cloth and use as a microwave pot holder, but I won't be buying more of this yarn. Thank you for your review!

Thanks for the review, always appreciate your opinion! I just made something using the Lion Brand Hometown USA yarn and experienced the most splitting I ever have. I love the variety the brand is releasing too, though!

Oooooh I forgot about Hometown... it sheds something horrible too. I made a Minnie Mouse hat years ago out of that because the pink was amazing, but it shed and split terrible. Lion brand is certainly innovating at a rapid pace and they can't all be winners. Thanks for watching!

Thank you for the yarn 🧶 review; haven’t used that yarn. Splitting yarn 🤦‍♀️

I can usually make due with yarns that split a bit, but this was really bad. Thanks for watching!

Has anyone tried a tablecloth with the side dish yarn?

I haven't seen one. I think that would be interesting to see, but very expensive. Side Dish was on the pricey side for Lion Brand and there is only about a washcloth's worth of yarn in each ball (though if they used a lacier pattern than I chose you could maybe get a bit more square footage) and a table cloth is generally pretty big. It would be near impossible to wash in a wash machine because of the thickness and the amount of water all that cotton would suck up. I could see it being very protective for the table though. You could probably skip the trivets and set stuff right on the table because Side Dish is so thick. Thanks for watching!

I enjoyed this yarn for making face scrubbies, but they are discontinuing it 😭 do you know of a similar yarn? Looking for something as thick and 100% cotton. Thanks in advance!

Unfortunately I don't, but you could try holding 2-3 strands of thin cotton together until they give you the thickness you are looking for! Thanks for watching!

I just learned of the existence of Premier Cotton XL. It's chainette construction so it should be easier to work with than Side Dish because it won't be trying to undo itself, it's still giant, comes in 300 g balls, but it is 15% cotton polyester. It meets some of your requirements but isn't a perfect drop-in replacement for Side Dish.
