No one asked but my top few albums are: 1. SAWAYAMA - Rina Sawayama (get on the Rina train y'all) 2. RTJ4 - Run The Jewels (there was so much of the album that is strikingly relevant today) 3. Alfredo - Freddie Gibbs & The Alchemist (I just found myself repeating this over and over) 4. The New Abnormal - The Strokes (I found it a nice return to what they are good at, but I can understand why some won't like it as much) 5. Neo Zone - NCT 127 (k-pop, but seriously probably some of the best pop instrumentation and production I've heard this year and should be given a listen)
Unless you add "Hit" to that title, Blinding Lights shouldn't be eligible. Can you really call a song that dropped in 2019 one of the best songs of 2020?
@@mariokarter13 It was on an album that came out in 2020 which is why Mark counts it. Same thing for "When the Party's Over" which came out in 2018 but its album came out in 2019 so it qualified for his 2019 list.
@Dog-Ears with Dylan Does not correlate to being on this list specifically. Although I'm shocked "911" is not on here, you'll see his opinion on "Rain On Me" when it inventively makes the Best Hit Songs list of 2020.

@@ahri3887 I was just listening to the whole album and I gotta say Punisher is a great great song too. Kyoto and Chinese Satellite are highlights for me.
Any particular reason that you're not listing your favorite songs from each album anymore? I used to find those useful, let me sample the album to see if I would like it all the way through
I'm surprised Just Like Moby Dick isn't on the list even for individual songs. I really dig that album, especially Houdini Didn't Like the Spiritualist
Out of the ballads on High Road, Resentment might be my least favorite, I prefer Cowboy Blues and Chasing Thunder, it’s still absolutely amazing though.
Jhene Aiko: *Literally takes a fat, steaming shit* Mark: "It has such an emotional potency that I could have never found anywhere else. There are so many textures and layers to unravel and learn more about as I listen to it more and more; in other words, its a strong 8 out of 10 and definitely a recommendation"
I'm left thinking he alluded that mainstream hip-hop this year kinda struggled and despite positive reviews from the underground, none are touching the power of RTJ. Also, why not troll those white boys propping Lil Uzi Vert.
I'm actually sad that Dylan Slocum's voice doesn't work for me. I see how it might work for other people, but those little mid-syllable flutters he does are really distracting and I don't particularly love his overall sound, either. Shame, because SLS sounds like a really good band, but I can kind of picky about lead singers.
Going by that list, 2020 has not been a good year. Not a single album that challenges the listener and/or shows us a new direction. Mainstream and mediocrity prevail.
I don't think he hates Em. I think he's tired of being disappointed for an artist who held promise over 3 consecutive albums. I feel for him. To have someone introduce you to a specific art form and to be connected to their music to get through dark times in your childhood and adolescent, it hits man. For me, I just got into Em's music and I'm left thinking that no one is talking about his new album as we speak even the fact that "Godzilla" made the year-end list.
I agree that Niall Horan is criminally underrated.
Very...Flicker may have not won me over but Heartbreak Weather certainly did.
Yeah he’s the best 1d member

2. Quelle Chris & Chris Keys - Innocent Country 2
3. Royce da 5'9" - The Allegory
4. Rjd2 - The Fun Ones
5. Skyzoo & Dumbo Station - The Bluest Note
Good list
I missed it but great video!
No one asked but my top few albums are:
1. SAWAYAMA - Rina Sawayama (get on the Rina train y'all)
2. RTJ4 - Run The Jewels (there was so much of the album that is strikingly relevant today)
3. Alfredo - Freddie Gibbs & The Alchemist (I just found myself repeating this over and over)
4. The New Abnormal - The Strokes (I found it a nice return to what they are good at, but I can understand why some won't like it as much)
5. Neo Zone - NCT 127 (k-pop, but seriously probably some of the best pop instrumentation and production I've heard this year and should be given a listen)
Calling it now: Blinding Lights and Physical will be on the list
And don't even get me started on Honky Tonk Hell and Reunions!!!!!!!
Guess i was wrong about Physical. Ah well, Love Again is still deserving
I like the angle but maybe you could make the album covers a bit smaller
1. Another Country - Dreamcrusher
2. More Songs about Drowning - Cremation Lily
3. Systema Munditotius vol. 1 - Jeremiah Cymerman

6. Ghostophonia - Silent Strike and Makunouchi Bento

When Mark puts your four favorite albums of the year so far in the honorable mentions.
I keep coming back to Spanish Love Songs too.
You do love your country. It’s practically a best country list.

The new camera angle is...okay.
2010s top albums list please
As of late May 2020, he completed part 1 of 3 for his "Top 50 Best Albums of the 2010s Decade" list, that part taking 5 months alone. It will be quite a while until the full list is completely refined: twitter.com/SpectrumPulse/status/1264983616569905152
Your Niall Horan pick is getting no discourse or controversy from me. It's a good album. He's a good artist. 🤷
I like this camera angle
Punisher by Pheobe Bridgers is my #1 so far, haven't heard an indie album that compelling in years.
I Know the End is soty material
@@elyy0345 I think ICU just edges it out for me on a personal level but they're both very likely to place in my top 10
@@ahri3887 I was just listening to the whole album and I gotta say Punisher is a great great song too. Kyoto and Chinese Satellite are highlights for me.
Genuinely surprised murder most foil didn't make the songs list
Just based on how much you did seem to like that cut
Any particular reason that you're not listing your favorite songs from each album anymore? I used to find those useful, let me sample the album to see if I would like it all the way through
I'm surprised Just Like Moby Dick isn't on the list even for individual songs. I really dig that album, especially Houdini Didn't Like the Spiritualist
Out of the ballads on High Road, Resentment might be my least favorite, I prefer Cowboy Blues and Chasing Thunder, it’s still absolutely amazing though.
Under the Table is the song of the year and I won't shut up!
Uh, yeah!
Jhene Aiko: *Literally takes a fat, steaming shit*
Mark: "It has such an emotional potency that I could have never found anywhere else. There are so many textures and layers to unravel and learn more about as I listen to it more and more; in other words, its a strong 8 out of 10 and definitely a recommendation"
"i dare you to show me better rap music in 2020."
brb, making an album as my alter ego, lil tax evader...
I'm left thinking he alluded that mainstream hip-hop this year kinda struggled and despite positive reviews from the underground, none are touching the power of RTJ. Also, why not troll those white boys propping Lil Uzi Vert.
BLACKENED 2020
I'm actually sad that Dylan Slocum's voice doesn't work for me. I see how it might work for other people, but those little mid-syllable flutters he does are really distracting and I don't particularly love his overall sound, either. Shame, because SLS sounds like a really good band, but I can kind of picky about lead singers.
STROKES STROKES STROKES STROKES STROKES
bro whole lotta red isnt even out you can’t put it at all 15 spots
LOOK AT ALL THESE $LAVEMASTER$ POSIN' ON YO DOLLAR
niall horan above fiona apple yeah BYE!
I don't listen to either artist, but Fiona Apple has the longetivity, Niall doesn't. But, it's his opinion I guess.
vegetable cutters
what percentage of this is country music.. just wanna know so i can complain about bias
Going by that list, 2020 has not been a good year. Not a single album that challenges the listener and/or shows us a new direction. Mainstream and mediocrity prevail.
MTBMB shoulda been on here but Mark hates Marshal to the point he tweeted out wanting Joe Budden to end his career.
