It's frustrating sometimes when Norlander gets about 80% through a point and then cuts himself off to digress. What did the ADs tell you about Gonzaga not playing football, you never finished that sentence.
This is a crazy thought. Gonzaga for all sports and team them up with UConn football. UConn can have an out of conference basketball schedule with the PAC 12. Those two schools can share the contract with football getting the larger share since football drives the bus. Plus it gets the PAC 12 noticed on the east coast.
As an OSU fan there’s two points I think have to be made: 1) considering how badly the 2Pac want to go to the Big12 if given the chance, I’m sure Memphis won’t have to fear being unable to escape the Pac if the ACC came calling. The Pac2 may even go to the ACC with them in some cases. The fact that the Pac2 made this move now suggests there isn’t any P4 invites coming for anyone any time soon. 2) taking UNLV now would cost an additional ~$12 million penalty. They could easily be a future Pac team, but that penalty may be a step too to grab them for ‘26.
I think UNLV definitely adds the most potential value. Why wouldn't you want a program in Vegas? Best case is they add UNLV, Memphis and Gonzaga. Would really love if new mexico got in, but I think the other 3 are must gets.
Well done, guys! I learned a lot from the basketball perspective. First, I believe that the PAC will prioritize getting 2 football schools. Second, then the PAC absolutely could add Gonzaga and probably 1 other football school. That would give them 9 for football and 10 for basketball in 2026. Third, as to Nevada Las Vegas, I am confident that the PAC is continuing to evaluate them. As to "Texas" schools, I'm confidant that at least 1 will be added. Fourth, one other factor that could come into play is that OSU will also consider the strength of a school's baseball program.
As long as the basketball tournament is as everyone has come to know it (an open qualifier for all eligible schools and leagues), why would a school like Gonzaga move? They might win the title this year, and in the past ten years have been in the final twice, the Elite Eight three more times, and been to the Sweet Sixteen every year there has been a tournament. They aren't going to get money from football if they don't play the sport, so what is the benefit of changing leagues? I respect the basketball programs heading to the Pac-whatever, but it isn't Butler going from the Horizon to the Big East level difference (or even the one year spell in the A-10). If football is the driver, and everything with realignment is, then the offers will go to UNLV, Memphis, Tulane, and maybe a couple of the Texas options from North Texas, Texas State, Rice, or UTSA. I don't think they would inquire about Sacramento State or UC-Davis, but those are massive state schools in Northern California with a lot of sports in and have been successful at football at the FCS level. Those two are probably more likely options for the Mountain West, but moving up from the Big Sky/Big West in basketball could help those programs in recruiting.
The only way moving to this new league makes sense for Gonzaga is if a Few retirement comes sooner rather than later and they want to set themselves up for life after him. Otherwise, it doesn't make much sense for them. Joining this league immediately dilutes their brand as they are no longer calling the shots for starters. There are several programs here that are stronger brands than Saint Mary's. Competitively, they are looking at a completely different deal, and they are no longer the reflexive choice to win the conference and get they easy top 4 seed. Life gets very different quickly. Look at schools that supposedly went to a "better" conference and how many are really thriving. A few are. From Syracuse to George Mason to Loyola to UNLV most pad their bank accounts at the expense of their won-loss records.
If Memphis joins the Pac 12, they need to join with at least two other schools in the central time zone around their area to reduce travel. But those two or three other schools have to make sense.
The PAC 6 should add Tulane Memphis. South Florida, U Conn, and UNLV for all sports next add Gonzaga, St Mary's, St John's and Georgetown or St. Louis for basketball / olympic sports. I think that PAC 12 would get a really good tv revenue package.
The fewer teams the PAC 12 have the less in Media money it needs. The more teams it has the more Media money it needs. Now they could also solely use their own media company or use it in conjunction with another media company.
Also keep in mind simmons bank stadium would be completed by 2026 the start of the pac 12 era. Having schools like boise, wazzou, oregon st, SD ST, fresno, colorado st, UNLV our crowds would be packing out over 50k a game vs seeing Charlotte and tulsa and temple. No offense but as gary alluded we need change as a Memphis fan base based on losing all of our rivals. And plus its a 5 bid basketball league. We cant be a 2 bid league in the AAC. Hey Tulane lets blow this popsicle stand!
Im not for 1030 games at night our time cause i get up at 130AM for work. But its worth going. Plus most people are off weekends so why not! Weekly basketball road games would be hard to watch. But ill change my sleep schedule for it! Lets go!
Someone respond with explaining the camel fighting reference... heard them talk about Leaky Black and Brandon Davies... I know I've heard them talking about Chris Clemons at Campbell, the Fighting Camels. Dodo Birds is the meme I really dunno about, someone please bring me up to speed.
Pac-2++ should gamble with resurrecting Gonzaga football. Gonzaga has more football hall of famers than basketball hall of famers still in 2024. Mark Rypien was a Super Bowl MVP and moved back to Spokane just built a new football building for pro Football, non norte-americano but Gonzaga football downtown would immediately be even more hype than downtown pro soccer or arena football... although would have to be tough to beat the Spokane Shock winning the Arena Bowl over Tampa Bay
All the Pac would need to do is reward the Zags larger portions of their NCAA units by successful runs in the NCAA tourney and then an equal share of basketball tv revenue and none of the football money.
CSU up and coming, Ranked 9 weeks during '23-'24 and six weeks during '21-'22 season. Dance 2 out of last 3 years and coach is sticking around and has picked up a pretty solid looking squad for this year.
Both of you believe basketball starts and ends with the men's program. The women's game is soaring while the men's game has leveled off. That is true of prestige and money. Dismissing all PAC6 schools as ho hum is narrow minded. Oregon State has and continues to have a better women's program the Gonzaga.
Gary you nailed it. My thoughts exactly. Get me out of this nightmare I'm in. PAC baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I like the idea of Gonzaga being part of the PAC 12 .
Gary as a native Memphian you were on point! Please get out of AAC, can’t wait 3 -4 more years. Pac here we come!!
Memphis is interested per reports!
It's frustrating sometimes when Norlander gets about 80% through a point and then cuts himself off to digress. What did the ADs tell you about Gonzaga not playing football, you never finished that sentence.
Having Gonzaga would be awesome. Would love to see the west dominate in basketball.

Too much travel for it to work.
@@nickolaslewis4416 Just like it is too much travel for the NFL, the BiG, the Big 12 and the ACC to work.

In the WCC Gonzaga has a local media rights agreement with Root Sports and KHQ for games not picked up by ESPN
USF should be considered for the Pac12?
it could happen. maybe create an east division
Love the idea of Gonzaga being a part of the Pac 12. Consider Grand Canyon U as well.
Memphis is a solid addition (football & basketball).
I think UNLV definitely adds the most potential value. Why wouldn't you want a program in Vegas? Best case is they add UNLV, Memphis and Gonzaga. Would really love if new mexico got in, but I think the other 3 are must gets.

When Deadleg actually gets to a point it's often pretty good, but goodness he takes the circuitous route.
The PAC 12 is focused on their football membership first. Then they may get Gonzaga, but not until their is 8 football schools

I get the idea but Gonzaga wants the BIG12. PAC 12 may offer but Gonzaga will use that as leverage for the BIG12
Memphis and tulane and unlv also want in the X12
And UCONN
Pullman should have already been roping Idaho back in but should have been pressuring Spokane and offering bring back college football back to Spokane
What's holding Gonzaga Zags is they want all their sports too be included in conference play! Not just basketball only!.
I love Gonzaga Basketball Team.....Go Zagsssssssssssssssss
Someone respond with explaining the camel fighting reference... heard them talk about Leaky Black and Brandon Davies... I know I've heard them talking about Chris Clemons at Campbell, the Fighting Camels. Dodo Birds is the meme I really dunno about, someone please bring me up to speed.
Lets go Memphis
The Pac-12 should add Memphis, UNLV, Tulane, and UTSA as all sports members and Gonzaga and St. Mary's as Olympic sports members.
Yes
Gonzaga and st marys
The hopeful new PAC-12/ Wassau, Oregon State, Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State, San Diego State, UNLV? Nevada? Stanford🤞 CaL🤞 Gonzaga🏀 Creighton🏀

Need Utah State & Unlv
Hey second dude answer the question already
Colorado St makes no sense. Basketball-wise, they have to help SDSU by getting Gonzaga, Memphis St, UNLV & New Mexico.
Texas St for football.
We haven't been Memphis State for 32 years. sheesh
Lol@@chitowntiger1
CSU up and coming, Ranked 9 weeks during '23-'24 and six weeks during '21-'22 season. Dance 2 out of last 3 years and coach is sticking around and has picked up a pretty solid looking squad for this year.
Not New Mexico, they have the worst fan base
Next time Aztecs crush Gonzaga we will dedicate it to the meatball on the right
Since your calling the PAC 12 the PAC 6 then call BIG 10 the BIG 18 and BIG 12 the Big 16.
I'm óld, sorry.
You keep repeating the same thing over and over

Until a league or the women's tournament gets a media rights deal worth more than what the men's get, then they aren't in this conversation
Kung Fu Gary!😂
