A lot of people are starting to use saturation over EQ to boost frequency ranges, which I feel is a better idea, as boosting EQ can hurt clarity and balance; you can always cut the saturation with EQ.
You need to be very careful when using saturation, since it can cause aliasing distortion when used badly. So if possible turn the oversampling on, so you can avoid aliasing. Also be careful when it comes to side image, I think it's better with linear phase so your frequencies do not cause phasing problem.
This was the most informative, specific and well-explained mastering video I've watched yet...and I've watched many. Thank you for explaining the nuances and the reasons why. Some of us learn from concepts and this was perfect for me.
Looking at other pro tutorials and older masterint engineers they dont always normalize the track before mastering. I would say it depends on the headroom of the mix. There are times while using these settings and normalizing the audio, we can hear distortion so in this other cases, we have to lower the post knob -2db to get rid of that distortion even if a bit less loud. However this tutorial is the right thing to keep the track balanced and well limited.
This video is excellent, I have no understanding of music production outside of just playing around with things until they sound good but I’m leaving this video feeling like I’ve got a whole new world to explore
Excellent tutorial! I was indeed comparing to other tracks in the same genre and while making a mix the volume of my tracks were always lower and a bit muffled. About the automation of the volume in the break really makes a difference to let the drop pop out more. Very helpful, thanks a lot 🙏

A very good tutorial. I have a question though, not sure if others have noticed but even if you have the saturation ceiling set to -1db and attack to 0 ms I very often get true peak warnings in both YouLean Loudness Meter and Span for instance. I noticed it in this video as well, albeit just 0,2 dB or something. But why is this? What do you do, just ignore it of lower the ceiling?

For anyone mastering hip hop/trap with a lot of 808s: ime it's better to turn off the compression on the low band in maximus, because removing the dynamic range from those 808s will mess up the sound. It's always best to test it out for your use case tho!
