In this video, Steve, with Upstart Epoxy shows you how to create decorative hanging art pieces with our epoxy resin. We found these cylindrical silicone molds on Amazon and they came in a pack of five. We measured out how much liquid they would contain by filling them with water first, and then pouring the water into the mixing cups to see exactly where we needed to fill our epoxy line. Once we did this, we poured one large batch of epoxy resin, adding all of the volumes together, and then begin to pour each mold, starting with the smallest to the largest, using our large batch of epoxy resin. Once we did this, we added pigment using transparent liquid-based pigments, as well as a color-shifting pigment, which would be added after a few hours to create a suspended look. Now, this is our first time ever doing this, so the video is entirely for experimental and learning purposes. Once the orbs had cured, we pulled them out of the silicone molds to reveal some really awesome creations. This is so simple and literally, anyone could do it! We then had to figure out how we would be able to suspend the orbs in the air. So, we realize that fishing line can hold up to 8 pounds, and the heaviest that any of these orbs would be maybe 1 pound. So we went ahead and applied some Quickstart, rapid curing epoxy onto the top of the orbs, and then attached a small amount of fishing line to create a bond. Once we have the lines attached to the orbs, after the one-minute epoxy had cured we were ready to attach them to a base. We had a piece of Narrawood outside that we decided we would like to use as a base. We drilled in a few holes into the wood and ran the wiring through the wood. By tying a couple of knots on the wiring, we added a small clasp to the base and tighten those knots to be larger than the hole in which we threaded them into. This would result in a stable connection between the fishing wire and the base and just for extra protection we also included some starbond adhesive. Once that was complete, we drilled a couple of hooks into the opposite sides of the base and ran some twine through them in order to hang the piece in the air.
