Being a kid at heart is good for your well being so it's okay to be a adult and have a collection of toys. I'm 46 and I have more Hot Wheels and other brands of 1/64 scale model cars than I ever did as a kid. Part of that was the fact that I was a 1980s kid who was very hard on his toys, hammers and fireworks where part of my "play tool box" lol. As long as you still have the money needed to do all the things that adults have to do, go out and buy yourself something as you can afford to.

This toy however was designed by a very small team which required an incredible understanding of spacial awareness and recombinant geometry. Just because those things were difficult doesn't make this toy's solving any less difficult.
All the more incredible when you consider how... dumbed down?... the complexity of these toys became. Look at how many twists and turns and pulls it took to transform. A decade later, its counterparts had all the movement of a flip phone.

Soundwave and Shockwave were my two favorite Decepticons after Megatron. Then it's Devastator and Galvatron! 😊 I actually got Soundwave 1st then Devastator and then Shockwave, Galvatron, then finally Megatron!
Just make Soundwave an hdtv with surround speakers that turn into weapons and the "casettes" would instead be game consoles that hookup. You could even have an entertainment center that works like Optimus Prime's trailer. There is always a way.
He's in the movies as a satellite. And in several cartoons as a car with I jacked sound system. So he loses three retro flair but the monotone voice and little companions are still around.
Just watching this video reminded me of the time when I worked at Toys R Us during the Christmas Season in the mid 80s and collected the Constructicons to build Devastator.
Makes me wish I never sold my originals (the Diecast metal ones) I had 35 years ago. Though my Soundwave was nothing compared to this one. But watching this made me realize you can totally walk up to him on his right side and he would never know it.

The only difference was the voice acting company put more reverb on his voice than on the other characters' voices. I think voice acting companies of Brazil had difficulties, technical limitations, for using the same effects the americans used back in those days.
The blockyness of the figure makes it more easy to make more alternative modes, i make: a base mode, a train mode, a gun/crossbow mode, a sort of scorpion mode, and of course the classic cybertronian streetlight, making him a sort of SevenChanger. Also, the minicons can have alternatives modes to complement all the other modes of Soundwave, like a tank and airship modes to Rumble and Frenzy, a turret and axe mode to Ratpack, a car and crossbow mode to Ravage, and manny more.
@Blustar_5, I put his legs together and his arms and head forded up with the turret and the gun of the back in the top part, it barely looks like a train, but it seemed like some kind of cybertronian space train/ship to me
I Just brought this transformer, I always wanted it as a kid. It is definitely premium and worth every penny. It was a little difficult at first but when you get the hang of it, it's fun to transform.

I Just brought this transformer, I always wanted it as a kid. It is definitely premium and worth every penny. It was a little difficult at first but when you get the hang of it, it's fun to transform.
