    My Junior Year I sang this in our high school choir and in my senior year, I was in a concert at a local high school where we sang the English version of The German Requiem! It's one of my favorite pieces of music!

    0:59 that tenor part tho ❤️❤️😭😭😭😭 like honestly that tenor line could straight up murder me and I’d be perfectly fine with that ❤️😭
    Last year this was sung at the All-State festival for choir, and although I auditioned but didn’t make it, this was perhaps my favorite song that we sang.

    I have sung this piece of music and it is absolutely beautiful. It's even better hearing it with an orchestra. Truly amazing. A work of art by Brahmes brought to life by this amazing choir and orchestra.

    This is my favorite choral piece, and I was lucky enough to find this fine performance of it right away. The choir and orchestra have a warm, rich sound which does justice to the music. The conductor does a nice job. There are some original dynamic touches which work well. I sang this in college and my wife in high school. We both love it. I played her this video after I first watched it, and she loved the performance too. The video cues nicely with the entrances of the different instruments, which adds to the appreciation of the composition. (I disagreed with only one of the conductor's decisions, which was slowing the tempo slightly at the beginning of "Die loben dich immerdar." This is a minor point.) Overall a very enjoyable and "lovely" performance.

    Slow and reflective in style. I'm not sure if this brings out the depth of feeling in the thought "How lovely are Thy dwellings" it doesn't feel happy but I not sure that this is required?

    • @LM-mn7ll

      I don't think you'll find "cheerful" is a characteristic of a Requiem work by any composer, being that it is a service for the dead. Brahmas wrote this after the death of his mother and the text is from the Book of Psalms.

    P.S I think the choir look focused, not bored -- ich finde der Chor sieht nicht gelangweilt aus. Die Saenger konzentrieren sich, und es ist ein ernstes Stueck, da lacht halt niemand...

    Everything is way too piano in this recording. There are dynamics written in this movement. The tenors sound like they don’t have any balls and this movement is one of the greatest to show off our voices.

    • @superkalifragilistisch6511
      @superkalifragilistisch6511 3 года назад

      I think you don't understand. Music is not to show off. (Or for having balls)

    • @beachfanatic2010
      @beachfanatic2010 3 года назад

      @@superkalifragilistisch6511 MUSIC IS THERE TO BE SUNG! And it certainly isn’t there to cure insomnia. Death: HELL AND HEAVEN are very serious topics and it needs expression in both. I’ve sung this before several times. Have you?

    • @superkalifragilistisch6511
      @superkalifragilistisch6511 3 года назад +1

      @@beachfanatic2010 My main point was you aren't talking in a nice way, and of course music is to be sung but not to show off (If you meant "show off" like: "My voice is so full and great"). In music we can unite and express the emotions, but you shouldn't say other people have no balls just because their Interpretation is different.
      Also, this particular movement is not about "HELL AND HEAVEN" in this sense, the translation (as you surely know) is "How lovely are your flats, Lord Zebaoth, my soul demands and longs .... " So yes I think it's also very deep and intimidate, it doesn't nessecarly have to be "shout out".
      And yes, I also sung this Requiem 😊😍
      But why are you asking like that? (It sounds a bit like you think you're "better" and know more because you performed if often) Being able to sing and perform this great piece is a very big privilege we should be very thankful for, and not looking down on people who haven't (and maybe will never have) this possibility.
      Otherwise, have a great day and please be kind!

    • @beachfanatic2010
      @beachfanatic2010 3 года назад

      @@superkalifragilistisch6511 You don’t have the slightest idea of what da hell you are talking about. THE ENTIRE SCORE IS ABOUT HEAVEN ANS HELL! Right here they are talking about heaven and its mansions reserve for the saints. I knew you were stupid but dis you have to be this stupid? And HEAVEN is and will not be monotonous! Heaven will be exciting. This people singing here sound like they are zombies or cold white ghost.

    • @superkalifragilistisch6511
      @superkalifragilistisch6511 3 года назад +1

      @@beachfanatic2010 Of course it's about heaven, but for me it isn't about HELL AND HEAVEN in a aggressiv way (with capital Letters) (also I sung the Requiem a while ago and it's in my native language, so I know whats about) Different people have different opinion/interpretation. You could just listen to a other recording. But please don't call other people stupid.
