I gotta 2009 Chevrolet Silverado LTZ Scott with over half a million kms on it no probs at all and still with the original transmission sound Good?
I'll take an LS Chevy over any Ford. Torque from velocity. Go back to the 351 and 400m's. Hell the production 351 Windsors were 2 bolt mains. Ford has never made a good V8. A simple 6 bolt main V8 chevy will out last a quad cam or duel cam Ford by years. Chevy;s have better head design and fewer parts. Tranny's are a piss into the wind. I prefer NV4500's but as power increases above 7oo it becomes an issue. Just a 5.3 Chevy with a mild cam will get you 500 hp. A 4 cam Ford needs to work with twice as many parts. Keep it simple keep it long.
Scotty, I was looking at an 04 celica it overheats and doesn’t shift into 3rd the seller was asking for 1000$ what are you thoughts on it.
There is a reason everyone swaps LS Chevy's into. Like Duh.
Dear Scotty, I parted my 97 lumina the other day. What’s your opinion on a Chevy caprice wagon or Buick road master wagon from 91-97
In most of your videos you say "find an honest mechanic like me."
Maybe you could do a video about that process and what to look for and watch out for?
I think that could be extremely helpful to a lot of people.
Sometimes it’s just luck of the draw. I know a Mechanic who’s comparable to Scotty, very knowledgeable except he’s more of a ford fan vs a Toyota fan.
If the shop says” we’re booked up until next week”usually a good sign.
Word of mouth is a good indicator. I connect with my neighbors through Nextdoor app (my location includes 23 neighborhoods-large resource pool) and we give each other recommendations on all kinds of things. You also find out who not to use too.
Good thing to note as well, with word if mouth, is the shops who don't advertise. I've found they are usually the best. Lol

My dad has a 2003 Toyota Camry with 215,000 miles and still runs amazing! He just bought a 2012 Lexus rx350 so the Camry is his backup car and will probably be by first car next year! The older Camry’s are amazing!

Where a car is made still matters. The Japanese have insanely high inspection standards, which they stick to.
He is, the most honest person I met on youtube about cars. Great job you are doing sir. Giving your life experience to the new generation.
Nice to hear someone tell it like it is when it comes to cars. Keep up the good work Scotty.
Wow! Did Scotty actually say "even Toyota's break down"
Yes just that others break down 10x more!
Oh yes. My mom’s car went 12 years before something messed up.
My fathers 1996 Toyota Avalon the XLS model burned a quart of oil every other day
It's like saying even Japanese people die, not only Americans with peanut butter in their arteries 😆
I bought that exact car you said not to buy for $3300. I've been very satisfied with it after about 18 months. Seems to me that you can get a rebuilt battery for it for $1K installed, and could probably find one at a scrapyard too if you had to. Even if you had to replace the rebuilt battery every 18 months it would be well worth it, as little as there is that goes wrong with them.
I bought a used 2004 Prius during the pandemic. Hybrid battery went out after a few years, went to Greentec auto and got a refurbished one for $1k and the hybrid battery is still good. I gave it to my mom when her 1st gen Prius broke down. I might sell it after her car is repaired since the transmission is going out and I want an SUV anyway.
I bought a 97 camry with 115000 km behind it for what is equivalent of around 3000$ but full service book only probem is alot of the rubber is stating to turn and a leaking ac however i had it now 2 month and still super happy with it.

@Paul Lunsford just don't get. A Liberty...There horrible
@Paul Lunsford those are some solidly built and reliable (depending on enormus milage and condition ofc) cars. I wish there, in my country, were much more of those so the parts would be much more available but in reality almost everyone drives diesel vehicle here so folks don't really need such "gas hogs".
what years were the 6th generation Celica?
THANKS FOR THE ADVICE, SCOTTY. YOU HAVE A GOOD HEART.❤
I've had 3 2001 gm trucks in the past 3 years. Suburban, Yukon, and currently a tahoe. Only good thing I can say about them is they drive pretty nice and they just keep going. Other then that they all have the same issues all 3 of them. Odometer gages especially gas gages work intermittently or not at all. Windows always coming off track. Seats seem to rip early on all of them. All 3 of these vehicle the ignition cylander went on them. Ac never worked on any of them except the tahoes worked for the first week I had it. I do love how they drive and how long the engine and trans will just keep going

Dear Scotty: I hate dropping the transmission pan just to change fluid and filter. If I added a drain plug could I change the fluid every 8,000 miles with ease in which case I think I could extend the filter change from the advised 24,000 to 48,000 miles. Would that be OK?
Legend has it, instead of a poorly made heart Scotty has a 94 Celica beating inside his chest.

My dad liked Ford and Chevy in the 60's too but moved towards Toyota and Honda in the late 70's. @@hotsky83 It leaves more options though. For example, do you live somewhere like Utah, Colorado, Montana, etc and want to take your vehicle offroad? You're not going to get a reliable 4x4 for under $2k unless you score a great deal. But for $5k you can definitely find a solid, reliable 4x4 rig.
