As an American with a bachelor's degree, I can say that I along with many others here are shamefully ignorant of HIV, AIDS, and Africa. K12 education and my college never mentioned them.
I've read numerous books about HIV in Africa. Men refuse to use condoms, and people refuse to change sexual behavior. There's nothing you can do to prevent new infections apart from education. You can't force people to do what you want.

The question I have is why HIV spreads equally amongst men and women, only in poor countries? Could AIDS in poor countries be caused by malnutrition, lack of clean water and access to treatment for malaria, TB, and other causes for wasting? If HIV was the cause of AIDS in Africa, it should spread the same way in other countries. Viruses don't know geography!
