  • Coraline Groen, who took part in the Academy of the Concertgebouworkest in the 2018-19 season, joined the second violins of the orchestra on 1 February 2020. On the same day she won the Oskar Back Prize of the Netherlands Violin Competition. Her many earlier distinctions include the first prizes of the Britten Violin Competition and of the regional finals of the Princess Christina Competition.
    Coraline Groen took up the violin at the age of three. She obtained a bachelor’s degree from the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague, where she studied with Peter Brunt and Philippe Graffin. At the Royal Academy of Music in London she studied with Rodney Friend. She completed her studies with Vera Beths with the highest possible marks.
    She has been a member of the academy of the Residentie Orchestra The Hague and was appointed concertmaster of the Royal Conservatoire Symphony Orchestra. The Youth Orchestra of the Netherlands, the RAM Symphony Orchestra and the Gustav Mahler Academy Orchestra all appointed her principal of second violinist. She has also taken part in projects with the Nieuwe Philharmonie Utrecht, the Antwerp Philharmonic and Asko|Schönberg.
    Coraline Groen has participated in masterclasses at the Gustav Mahler Academy, the Cambridge International String Academy and the Orlando Festival.
    She has a duo with bayan player Robbrecht Van Cauwenberghe and with pianist Rik Kuppen.
    As a chamber musician, Coraline Groen frequently performs at festivals including the Utrecht International Chamber Music Festival, the Delft Chamber Music Festival, the Wassenaar International Chamber Music Festival and the February Festival. She has been invited to serve as young artist in residence at the 2022 Music Summer of the National Youth Orchestra of the Netherlands in Apeldoorn.

    Coraline was talking about how she felt about Mahler and Bruckner, while the background music was Rachmaninov symphony no.2 ;-)
