    Driven this route many times courtesy of a digital recreation, sorry to see it isn't existant anymore as it's challenging to drive with a steam engine and the scenery is beautiful.
    It was a pleasure to see the real places, and I'm happy to report the recreation is a good one, as I recognize many of the sights seen from my time on the virtual footplate.
    Also a pleasure to hear all the history, many thanks indees for making this series of videos!

      That's what I like to hear - makes all the effort worthwhile. Best wishes for Christmas and the coming year - when volume 4 should be released.

    Excellent video ! Well researched and detailed with archive clips and maps to add detail . I learned so much from this production even I live not that far away from the area. Thoroughly enjoyed ! Looking forward to Part 3 and maybe even Part 4 covering the Kirkcudbright and Wigtown branches ? Your efforts are much appreciated - Thank You

      Thank you - glad you enjoyed it. Part 3 is nearly all filmed - a few bits still to capture - and then a lot of editing to do. I had hoped to do the Kirkcudbright and Whithorn branches too but - alas - it seems that my motoring days have come to their end and, without a car, they will not be possible. However, one of my younger followers tells me that he is tackling the Kirkcudbright line so - who knows? - we may see it online yet.

    Wonderfull work Tim, some work, time and research gone into this interesting video, was up in this part of the world recently following the early part part of the route from Dumfries, so i reconize quite a few of the photos, deserves more views . 🎥

      My historical videos always attract a low number of views initially - but they keep being watched for years afterwards unlike the Carlisle films whose appeal is short lived.

    Any chance you could continue the 'G&SWR Now and Then' video up the mainline through Ayrshire?

    • @schoolshorts
      @schoolshorts  Год назад

      Thanks SM. I had intended to continue with the GSWR Then and Now when I finished the Port Road set but - alas - I now find myself without a car and with no prospect of acquiring another. Much of the work involved would be quite impossible using the very limited public transport available in Dumfries and Galloway so - unless I can come up with the right numbers for the National Lottery - I fear the answer is "no" - sorry!

    Great work tim, are you going to do a video of the old Kirkcudbright line?? As i am currently doing so at the moment.

    • @schoolshorts
      @schoolshorts  Год назад

      I was planning to do the Kirkcudbright line and the old line from Newton Stewart down to Wigtown and Whithorn in the Machars. Unfortunately, for financial reasons it looks as though my driving days are coming to an abrupt halt in two weeks time. Without a car, neither of these volumes will be possible. I'm now frantically trying to complete the necessary footage as far as Stranraer and Portpatrick so that I can at least finish the Port Road trilogy whilst I still possess wheels.
      Good luck with your work - and best wishes. Tim

    I can see why some of the stations were in need of closure being so far from the communities they served but I think it would of carried a good amount of through freight traffic from Stranraer. Found this very interesting I remember going through some of the towns on holiday.

      We can only speculate as to what might have been - but the Settle and Carlisle line gives us some pointers.

    • @cedarcam
      @cedarcam Год назад

      @@schoolshorts It does yes The Settle Carlisle stations away from the village have not deterred hikers and bikers from using them and a lot travel right through to enjoy the scenery so it could well of been the same for this line

    Brilliant Tim, absolutely brilliant, thoroughly enjoyed your very comprehensive history and anecdotes along a very impressive route that once ran through the region.Lots of daffodils in the early part of the video and both camera and drone working their socks off ( and of course yourself)
    Thought this had been put on the back burner so hopefully you remain fit well and able to complete part 3 in due course.

    • @schoolshorts
      @schoolshorts  Год назад

      Thanks John. I'm fit and well but, sadly, my car isn't and I no longer have the financial resources to deal with it, so my motoring days come to an end in two weeks time when the MOT expires. I'm dashing off today to film part of volume 3 and hope to get all the necessary footage in the coming fortnight. Without a car, much of D&G is totally inaccessible.

      @@schoolshorts Very sorry tp hear that your car has come to the end of its useful life. Hope you manage to complete the Port Rd Vol 3 in time.Here's hoping that you manage to get some transport at a future date or that you manage to get around some how with what limited public transport we have left.

      @@tankmicr00man Well - there are worse places to be than the Isle of Man - beautiful island with fascinating railways. Sadly, I haven't been there for some years now and it looks increasingly unlikely that I'll make it again. However - I'll carry on dreaming - and doing the National Lottery!

      The line closed in 1965. I was at college at the time and seem to remember that we had a Labour government from 1964 until 1970.
