Nice job mate. Good clear concise video, just what I like. I have 2013 r1200gs lc after having 2 r1150, which I knew everything about. The LC is just so different I haven't done my own valve adjustments on it. I never pay dealer for this stuff and feel strongly that people should do their own maintenance when possible. I like to do my own maintenance because I know there is no one else who will take the care I do, on my own motorcycle, to ensure everything is spot on and nothing is damaged in the process. I've not been impressed with some of the work the dealers have done on my various motorcycles and other vehicles over the years. Usually it's only a couple of hours of gentle and careful work to save hundreds and know it's done right. The only issue with anything new is ensuring you keep your warranty intact.
Thanks for the video, I was just checking what's involved for when I do mine. It's easier than most Japanese bikes I've done because you aren't removing the timing chain and it's nice having two individual cylinders vs a 4 in line, so less chance of getting confused over which bucket/shim you are working on.
Nice work and i can appreciate the satisfaction of one doing it themselves. However, i'll be paying for it a 2nd time very shortly as i'm just not the mechanically minded type.

It seems I’m currently running the same tyres as you(because I couldn’t get hold of Road 5s at the time), and you’re not afraid of dirt roads either! I bought mine for it’s ability to go on dirt but tour and be sporty when I wanted as well.
Your first valve measurement was incorrect by inserting the feeler gauge between the rocker arm and the valve stem. You later corrected the measurement between the cam and rocker

Looks easier than my Venture was. But my advantage there was I had a bunch of shims from a previous bike and had selection. Looks like a first time guy is going to do the job twice at least. Or be without wheels for a few days waiting on shims.

I looked (for example) on the online fiche for ASCycles.com and they seem to sell these in sets of 8 (of the same thickness) and I would almost certainly not need 8 of any one thickness! In the video you got 2 in a package so clearly you bought htem from somewhere that sold them loose.
Great video but watching you bent over like that hurts my back and knees / BMW should go back to rocker arm heads lot of people don't like running around getting the right size shims you probably only get a few more H.P. Out of the bike

Are there no factory alignment marks on the cams? You mentioned you used your nail polish when installing the lady side cams. Good job on the video!

the shims are about 8.82 or 8.83 mm in diameter. i checked i don't know about wiseco shims.

Sorry for the delayed response. I have not bought any shims yet. The valves were just within spec so I have a little time.
When did they "do away" with the shims. Or did they? I was told my 2018 doesn't have shims ?
I don't know about the 2018, but my 2016 does have shims.
