So touching! I always think of my wife when I hear this because I thought she was out of my league in both beauty and class when I first laid eyes on her...I grew up poor and shy and was a late bloomer. She was indeed breathtaking, yet she chose me and 27 years (24 years of marriage, Silver coming up) later she still takes my breath away! The song brings me to tears every time I hear it because I know how incredibly lucky I am! She didn't wear red on any of our early dates, but it's the FEELING expressed in the song...he just can't believe he's the one cheek to cheek with this amazing, gorgeous, spectacular woman that any man would desire...I felt and feel the same! ❤️✌🏻✌🏻❤️
Chris de Burgh is a phenomenal talent. Don't pay the Ferryman. Ship to Shore, Borderline, High on Emotion, Say goodbye to it All, Patricia The Stripper and the amazing Spanish Train - (plus many more) are fantastic songs and worth a listen. My wife was a big fan when we started dating in Highschool ( I had only heard of Don't pay the Ferryman at that time) and really got me tuned in to his music.
Although he didn't start out writing the song about his wife, as originally it was meant to be a love song called The Way You Look Tonight. His wife was actually the lady in red that he looked at at a function that night across the room, then he found the catch of the song to use, as there was already a song called that title he had wanted to use that came out before he could debut his own. She had just looked so stunning to him that that became the new title The Lady In Red

This was my great uncle and aunts song. I have never seen 2 people that were so in love for many many years. From early days right until my aunt sadly passed in 2016 they would just dance together at parties and even alone in their living room, and this was my uncles song to my aunt. We played this at her funeral and it was so bitter sweet as she sadly wasn't here but there were so many beautiful flashbacks of family parties where they would dance to this song. So this song reminds me that true love does exist

These bands had one song that made them famous but also had a second song less famous but charted in the top 20. "This Magic Moment - Jay and the Americans 1968 (Cara Mia and a few other hits) "Little Red Riding Hood" - Sam the Sham & The Pharaohs 1966 Their other hit "Wooly Booly" 1965 "Good Morning Starshine" Oliver 1969 Other hit "Jean" 1969 "Put a little love in your heart" - Jackie DeShannon 1969 Other hit "What the World Needs Now is Love" 1965 - "Signs" - Five Man Electrical Band "YMCA" - Village People 1979 Techncially a two hit wonder with "In The Navy" also a hit but this was so popular, and it's endured so long, I think it belongs on this list. This is most definately NOT a one hit wonder. He had many other hits, but this one is by far his most famous :) Spanish Train, Don't Pay The Ferryman, A Spaceman Came Travelling, Where Peaceful Waters Flow, Lebanese Night, Missing You....
He had loads of hits in South Africa. His album Spanish Train was actually banned here in the seventies. Artists can be one hit wonders in one country, but legendary in others.

I'd recommend the whole album "Flying Colours" by Chris de Burgh! It's a complete masterpiece with such a unique mood, especially "Sailing Away"! For the last 30 years my family and I have been vacationing in Sweden every year and this record travels with us every time. There's nothing more peaceful than listening to the whole album while driving on a lonely road through the Swedish night.... ❤️
This was our dating song and we danced to it at our wedding in 1993. My husband is a pianist and would play this on the piano over the phone to me late at night. It still brings back the memories. 27 married years, 9 kids, & 5 grandkids later...he’s still got my heart. Most romantic song ever ❤️😍🎹🎤!
Ah, the memories..slow dancing the the gymnasium at school with the lights down low and the disco ball spinning..with teachers watching us all like hawks! School dances were the best!
He had a few hits, I guess this was the biggest, but you really should check out 'Don't pay the ferryman'. Different vibe altogether, but WOW, what a song!
Absolutely wonderful to hear Chris again - but will echo what people below have said - NOT a one hit wonder - Don't Pay the Ferryman is another of my favourites and I LOVE Patricia the Stripper and Spanish Train - great storyteller
Such a lovely voice. He wrote this about his wife I believe. I watched a more current (year) video of him - I do not remember what he was doing there, I just know his wife was on the side of the stage( in RED) and he sang to her. It was so romantic ❤️ He has a couple others you may like “ Don’t pay the ferry man” and Carry Me(like a fire in your heart).
The best soapie couple ever in the history of soaps. My mum actually let me wag off high school when Steve came to Australia to sign autographs at the mall lol we snuck off, had to pass my school on the tram to get there lol, we ducked past the window giggling all the way as we were both major fans and then I wound up caught in a photo in the paper bwahahahahahaaaa
No unfortunately, there were literally I would say nine hundred people crammed in together maybe even over A thousand or more. It was a REALLY BIG deal over here, as we only had a handful of US soaps here at the time. Days was the most popular at that point and Steve was the biggest character at the time, so I'm sure the whole STATE of Victoria wanted to be there lol. And we had a crappy camera. So we asked some people near us with an expensive camera to send us some shots they took after they got them printed and gave them a little money and our address and they were nice enough to send us some STUNNING close ups of him- minus his patch- that FREAKED me out lol. He brought his patch with him and put it on for the crowd hehehe that really got us all wild Lol
When I Think of You is a Chris de Burgh song I play regularly. Patricia the Stripper and another I can't recall are interesting small audience live songs.
Great reaction! As many have stated this particular tune would think that he was a "one hit wonder" but only in North America, worldwide is a different story. Check out some of his other stuff which at times are deep. A great storyteller.
Got two for ya for now 1. Modern English "I'll stop the world (melt with you) 2. Tommy Tutone "867-5309 (Jenny). Latter song caused many of ppl to change number 😁. Also add in Sugar Hill Gang "rappers delight" Thanks Jayvee 🙌💗🎶

Two Hit Wonders. These bands had one song that made them famous but also had a second song less famous but charted in the top 20.
"This Magic Moment - Jay and the Americans 1968 (Cara Mia and a few other hits)
"Little Red Riding Hood" - Sam the Sham & The Pharaohs 1966
Their other hit "Wooly Booly" 1965
"Good Morning Starshine" Oliver 1969
Other hit "Jean" 1969
"Put a little love in your heart" - Jackie DeShannon 1969
Other hit "What the World Needs Now is Love" 1965
- "Signs" - Five Man Electrical Band
"YMCA" - Village People 1979 Techncially a two hit wonder with "In The Navy" also a hit but this was so popular, and it's endured so long, I think it belongs on this list. (Macho Man barely made the chart)
RJ Johnson Crikey! That’s a long message! I have a short attention span. I’ll read it later. 😂😂👍✌️
RJ Johnson, That is a great list! You really worked up a really good group of songs. I remember them all. Lou Christie also had "Lightening Strikes" too, but maybe it was not a hit.
@@turdferguson400 It's my entire list of recommendations! Thought I'd just get them all out there in one shot and be done with it. 😉
@@rayd635 Some were a close call. I ignore the UK so other hits might have been there. I figured if a 2nd be hit didn't get in the top 25 or so, I'm not counting it.
RJ Johnson Good for you, mate! Why you ignoring the UK?
True love song
He is an amazing singer with great talent.. he didn't get the fame he deserved .. I see him as one of the best singers in the world
He had other charting songs like "Don't Pay The Ferryman"
And high on emotion.
@@MrFelis1 That was always a great concert song!
Will always associate this song with when my husband and I were getting serious in our relationship, going from dating to engagement. Warm memories.
Omg this was one of my favorit hits in the -80’s. I sang it over and over n karaoke......and I cry ALOUT too 😂😘 yeah do much much -80’s and -70’s too so much fantastic music......thanks💕
Hey! Melina is my sister’s name. Are you Greek? 💖💖🌸☮️
Turd Ferguson no I’m not greek, I’m Norwegian 😉
Melina Kristin Mercury Hey! I like your name, anyway! 👍💖🇦🇺🇳🇴
Turd Ferguson Thank you, thats nice, say hallo to youre sister from me 🇳🇴🇬🇸💕🤗
This is most definately NOT a one hit wonder. He had many other hits, but this one is by far his most famous :)
Spanish Train, Don't Pay The Ferryman, A Spaceman Came Travelling, Where Peaceful Waters Flow, Lebanese Night, Missing You....
Hence not on my list above. But it's going to be hard to be perfect so I'm going to go with whatever plays. Good for you to point it out though.
TucBroder Don’t forget, ‘hits’ can be a perspective thing, depending on what country you live in. 💜🌸☮️
@@turdferguson400 That is true... He didn't do as well in the states, as he did in Europe fx.
TucBroder Exactly. He did have a couple of big hits here in Australia, though. 👍☮️🇦🇺
@@turdferguson400 Also big in Canada.
I've known a couple of women who are overwhelmed by this song and couldn't hear it without sobbing. The power of music, man.
Spanish train from Chris deburgh is special too
He had loads of hits in South Africa. His album Spanish Train was actually banned here in the seventies. Artists can be one hit wonders in one country, but legendary in others.
Thanks for sharing that information... btw,
This song is beautiful.
Classic !!!
Lol. I’m sure you’ve would been there on the dance floor with your smile floating with your Lady in Red,
A great number, Chris had a lovely light tenor voice. The film it comes from, is pretty good too. Glad you enjoyed this Jovaughn.
He had a huge hit around here, in the 70's, with the song "Flying"
💕 such a beautiful love song. I bet you are going to love this one, like Eric Clapton’s Beautiful Tonight. Yes, you got it. This was very much a prom and homecoming dance for me. I hope you use all these songs on your wife, Jay. They will work!
Great song
He is argentinian!!!!
Today i feel a teenager again...
Thanks x this song!
I would disagree.
He is Irish and lives in Co. Wicklow and has an Irish passport.
But he is also of British and Argentine ancestry.
@@tconnolly9820 He was born in Argentina and spent his early years here. He is Argentine and Irish
@@andrear.bordon9357 You are correct.
My fault for not doing a quick Internet search to get the facts.
But we'll both agree that he's really not British OK? 😉
Music is so powerful ..... this song played on the radio the other day, and left me standing in a memory of dancing in a dimly lit restaurant the night my first Wife and I were Engaged , she wore a slim cerise dress with black dots, and I had never seen her look so radiant and beautiful........that was 34 years ago
I looove his songs.. 🙂 "High on emotion" or "Sailing away" too👌👌👌
de Burgh's best song (imho) is Don't Pay the Ferryman. He actually has more than a couple of hits.
Another great choice .Beautiful song. You're right about proms and weddings. It got played alot.
This song so beautiful and for real tho, the soul he has. It’s so pure.
Boy this took me back to the dance floor, loved it!!!!
Great song also check out "Where peaceful waters flow" "Don't pay the ferryman" "High on Emotion"
gregory abbott shake you down. you will love it. also from the 80s
frank merris I still listen to this song. Love it 👍
There is a live version where he sings on stage to his wife who happens to be wearing red off to the side. It's really good. He still sounds great
He had many hits
You're right it was played at millions of proms, grad dances and not surprisingly, weddings after the ladies dancing dropped their guard... :) ;) :)
Love this artist!! He has a lot of great songs!! Listen to his song Patricia the stripper....you'll love it!!!
Absolutely one of my favorite one hit wonders.
How many of us lady's put on a red dress with hopes of this song would play.
He his definitely not a one hit wonder
He has sold 55 million records worldwide
Living In A Box . with their hit Room In Your Heart you'll love, great ballad
Great for slow dancing, brings happy tears to my eyes, such a beautiful love song.
I still have this LP album from the 80’s!
Another fav of mine thanks for reacting! Makes me want to go back to my childhood! haha....so many quality tunes! :)
Ah, the memories..slow dancing the the gymnasium at school with the lights down low and the disco ball spinning..with teachers watching us all like hawks! School dances were the best!
his falsetto note was so on point, on a second listen it was more like a top-of-range (that day) note
Started a trend for red dresses to the clubs💃💃💃💃
This was my favorite song by Chris, but he has many more you should take a listen to.
Such a sexy song 💃❤️😌
He had a few hits, I guess this was the biggest, but you really should check out 'Don't pay the ferryman'. Different vibe altogether, but WOW, what a song!
Song takes me back to the best days of my life
I also remember from Chris "Don't pay the ferryman."
It was so romantic ❤️
He has a couple others you may like “ Don’t pay the ferry man” and Carry Me(like a fire in your heart).
Love love love Red, this song, and slow love songs
Gotta hear the ("professional"/planned) "live version" where the audience sings the chorus the second time, and de Burgh knocks it OUT DA PARK! Whoo!
You are absolutely correct about this song being played during high school dances & proms back in the '80s (I was there lol).
This song was Steve and Kayla song on Days of our lives such a beautiful and sexy song
Yes - I remember that!!
@@angelika_munkastrap4634 that's so cool he was so hot did you meet him
No unfortunately, there were literally I would say nine hundred people crammed in together maybe even over A thousand or more.
"The Beat Goes/On switchin to Glide" from the Kings. early 80s classic, one hit wonder on the radio constantly
Hello My favorite part is when he whispers "I love you" at the end. The lady in red is supposed to be his wife.
I still tear up remembering dancing to this song. First love.
The lady in red is his wife. He wrote this song about his wife after watching her at a party
Princess Diana's favourite song.
He attended her funeral. Didn't realize it was him until the camera had panned past him. 😢
I had a Chris De Burgh greatest hits album. He has other great music.
I loved your reaction 👌
React to his song Spanish Train. Chris De Burgh is not a one hit wonder. He has many great songs.
Many songs but only one hit
@@nigelreed6819 not true! he had many hits! it depends on, where you live on this world!
@@felicityblack3555 the reactor is in the US so only 1 hit
A wonderful piece of studio work!
When I Think of You is a Chris de Burgh song I play regularly.
Patricia the Stripper and another I can't recall are interesting small audience live songs.
Awww lol..aww didn't expect this reaction... n aw a can say is.... awww 😆😁 yer some guy man 😂 love ya x
My boss, at the time this song was popular, said he thought it would be the perfect song for a father to dance with his daughter at her wedding.
Great reaction! As many have stated this particular tune would think that he was a "one hit wonder" but only in North America, worldwide is a different story. Check out some of his other stuff which at times are deep. A great storyteller.
No, he was a pretty big deal in Canada. I saw him in concert 3 times in Ottawa.
🎼 There’s nobody here. 🎼 Just you and me 🎼 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Peter Frampton live in Chile.’Baby I love your way’. Perfection.
Got two for ya for now
1. Modern English "I'll stop the world (melt with you)
2. Tommy Tutone "867-5309 (Jenny).
Latter song caused many of ppl to change number 😁.
Also add in Sugar Hill Gang "rappers delight"
Thanks Jayvee 🙌💗🎶
Get ready! It a beautiful one!! ❤️💛☮️💟✌️
Amo está cancion maravilloso cantante Argentino 🇦🇷
This was one of the most requested songs at the nightclub I worked at in the 90's
I have not seen what the lady in red looked like but herself and Chris's resulting offspring was crowned Miss world so I am guessing she was stunning too!
So sad you didn't do the video.. one of my favorites.. Agree not a one hit wonder.. but most of his songs more Rick.. and in England.. he's British.
He's Irish.
Ask him and check his passport and lives in Co. Wicklow.
But he is of British and Argentine ancestry.
