    This is awesome sir, I love that you all are willing to explain your mistakes and miscalculations. I can’t explain, as a hunter, how nice it is to be able to learn from experienced hunters, who are humble enough to teach and be honest and swallow the ego.

    Love the story guys. Steve you said it best and I can directly relate. You have seconds to make up your mind and come up with an ethical shot. You make up your mind and try to wrap it up as best you can. Good on you for being hard on yourself because that’s how you always become better/more ethical. I had the same situation this November in Manitoba which resulted in a bang flop spine shot. But it was supposed to be a shoulder blade shot. Task failed successfully. But I still beat myself up for not making sure I made a better shot in the heat of the moment and the only way to become better is to be your own toughest critic! Good hunt old boys.

    Great Show Ron. I was hunting Perkins county. And filled both tags I used a 270 win and a 7mmMag. My Buck shot was under 30 yards and the Doe shot was at 75 yards. I was hunting Walk in areas .lots of Pheasants and Grouse. I went back out there l this week with the Muzzleloader .it was cold snowing and windy . Unbelievable amounts of Grouse and Pheasants. I didn't get a Deer with Muzzleloader. I came home empty handed. The Anterless rifle season starts on Saturday I have double Doe tags for Gregory County.

    You’re explaining conditions that I have on the Kansas quarter I hunt every year. It’s amazing to see the variation in behavior based on terrain in different sections. I’ve got a pretty good pulse on how they are going to behave, but there are still surprises. Great show guys!

    That is the southern Saskatchewan experience to a tee. The wind is a factor here as well. You need to learn how to shoot the wind if you want to hit the first round out. I have done it all my life, and it still is hard! Good job fellows!

    I love the 270 and I know your friend loves it too for using it on your guises Whitetail hunt in South Dakota. I have always shot a 130 grain bullet and found it to be just fine and some of the wind in South Dakota some of the Barnes bullets don’t have the highest ballistic coefficient bullets for hunting, but they work I know, cause I can attest to that, that is no longer available anymore to use MRX bullet they discontinued what they have comparable to that is long range Hunter bullet that’s 129 grand bullet that has a pretty BC for the bullet

    Terriffic bucks. I hunt NY State woodlands, brush lots, mature hemlock stands, and one particular powerline right-of-way that slices my property diagonally where I can squeek out 250, maybe 300 yard shots. But most are under 45 yards. I would be so out of my comfort zone on a prairie I wouldn't know where to start. With binoculars, I suppose. GREAT respect to successful traditional bowhunters in that territory.

    I hunted SD for the first time spot and stalk with a bow this year. Made probably 8 failed stalks on big mule bucks and on the last day smoked my first big white tail buck. Very hard country to stalk deer, have to use the terrain and creek beds to get close. But extremely rewarding when you stick a big buck in country like that

    Very good video, fun to listen to a story about a hunt rather than actually watching it unfold. Interested in a couple of things: first the hammer bullets, which one were you using? And what twist barrel do you have on your custom 7x57? I’ve searched Hammer bullets and always find that they’re designed for fast twist rate barrels. My guns all have the old traditional twist rates on their respective barrels. So can I use Hammer bullets in those types of guns and if so, which Hammer bullet should I be looking for? Thanks in advance.

    Don't mean any disrespect here Ron, but, obviously what you call a "cheap" hunting knife and what I do, are two totally different things! I'm sure that is a awesome knife, but, I didn't pay much more than that for my rifle when I bought it new! 😳

    Definitely one of your better podcast. Love Steve. Just like you Ron, such a down to earth, humble in character, individual. I was very glad to hear you guys frown upon long range hunting (to me that's >500yds). It's just my opinion, but I consider it unethical. It's an ego trip with no consideration of the game animal. Glad you both were able to catch up with your deer and get that kill shot.

    How much does it cost to hunt on a ranch like that??

    • @RonSpomerOutdoors
      @RonSpomerOutdoors  9 дней назад

      Trespass fees -- or hunting access fees -- vary wildly from ranch to ranch. Everything from "free because the rancher likes you" to $10,000 because he likes money and tolerates you.

    So here's a suggestion for you, Mr. Ron spomer, so you may comment sitting in the truck watching for stuff to happen so I'd like you to take wherever you are. Your home state is Idaho? My home state is Pennsylvania, the laws from out west to the east are so I don't even know the word completely different like I cannot sit in my truck even on private property and watch a field waiting for a deer to come out because they're considering that as a blind and you're not allowed to use a vehicle as a blind and you just did that in this state that you're in. There's so many laws in Pennsylvania that are vague + kind of you know lesser word stupid. Why you can't do it? So here's another one. I'll give you a law in Pennsylvania. I can walk down a road and shoot from the berm of the road at an animal on the same side of the road. If I shoot on the other side I have to be high enough to preclude any danger from anyon coming traffic. But if I'm driving down the road I have to get 25 yd off of the road before I shoot at an animal. So yeah there's I don't know do a 15-minute segment of comparison of laws in different states I guess.

    Y’all are contradicting yourselves.
    300 yards is not close.
    In the real world you both made bad shots. I presume y’all are far better than average shots. More hunting/ stalking less shooting past 150 yards. Get down to hands and knees, not just bending over a few inches.
