Attack on Titan is one of the greatest anime to ever exist and it will surely go down in history. Its ending is a bit controversial but still fitting for the series. Opening 3 will always be my favorite. Opening 1 and Rumbling are great but 3 just hits me with all the feels for the series and it has an anthem feel to it as well ^^
This isn't really a spoiler for the show and you kind of picked up on it a bit, but opening 5 (done by Linked Horizon) references the motifs and leitmotifs that were in the first three openings (also done by Linked Horizon). So you caught that the beginning of opening 5 started the same as opening 1, and the up-and-down parts that you noted near the end of the song were actually the notes used in the main motifs of opening 1, opening 2, opening 3, and ending 4 (which they also made the song for). In fact, the full versions of all those songs have even more throwbacks to the previous songs they had written too. That's because Revo, the composer, creates musical stories (think similar to Andrew Lloyd Webber) so all of his songs tell a story. In fact, if you listen to all the songs he's written for the show back-to-back, they basically tell the story of the show. It's good stuff!

You should definitivly give this a try. Not only the openings, but the entire soundtrack from the start of episode 1, to the very end is perfect. It's an amazing mystery story with amazingly written characters. And the story is insanly deep, this is not the type of show one should watch casually. You almost have to study everything that happens (everything happens for a reason in this show). The only warning you need is this: Be prepared for trauma and a rollercoaster of emotions, hearthache and struggle to understand what is going on (but don't worry, everything will be revealed during the show). This might be anime/cartoon, but I have never experienced a show with more real human like emotions then this. I have never been much into anime. Despite this, Attack on Titan is in my opinion the greatest show of all time
