    Thanks for this video!
    A local shop was offering this box with a nice discount, and before purchase I knew I could count on you to have a good yet concise look through the contents. I'm personally not that interested in the game itself, but instead the miniatures. Years ago GW had this cool MESBG starter set with Moria theme and I sadly missed that (tho, I bought the phenomenal Battle for Skull Pass instead). Now I'm getting these nostalgic minis, partly thanks to your review. Cheers!✌️

      Yeah, this is basically the old Moria starter set without the terrain. They did sell the terrain separately a while back and you may still find some copies of that in games stores or online. Thanks for watching I’m glad the video was helpful.

    They could do several games like this, with Moria alone...
    - Last Stand at Balin's Tomb (play with Dwarfs only, trying to escape Moria, getting eaten at the gate, stabbed in the tunnels & crushed in Balin's Tomb)
    - Fight for Moria (Dwarfs trying to retake Khazad-Dum from the Goblins, winning the battle, outside, but Khazad-Dum remains in enemy hands)
    - Enter Moria, Khazad-Dum (fight off the "Guardian", be very stealthy/silent in the tunnels, reach Balin's Tomb)
    - Battle in Balin's Tomb (THIS game)
    - The Bridge of Khazad-Dum (run fast enough to the bridge, hold off the Balrog long enough, and escape)
    - Fall of Moria (play as Goblins only, trying to fend off Dwarfs or stealthily trying to escape)
    Every set with different minis & "boards", of course, combinable with each other.
    GW: 🤑

    Agree with all you've said here, thanks for sharing...I was hoping mine woudl rock up in the post today, but no, maybe tomorrow. It would have been nice if it was a double-sided board. The other side could have been another pre-set scenario using some or all of the Fellowship, like Aragorn and the Hobbits on Weathertop against a handful of Ringwraiths, or the entire Fellowship defending their camp against Wargs at night in Hollin...sure, there would have bee an additional expense for a few extra minis, cards and board printing, but worth it I reckon...

    Awesome review! I just ordered this for Christmas the other day. First time I’ve bought a skirmish game. Wish they’d included some of the old 3d terrain that the old Moria set had, otherwise it looks great!

    • @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring
      @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring  2 года назад +2

      It would have been nice to include the terrain, but I suspect they were hoping to drum up some secondary product sales by leaving it out (the Moria terrain is currently sold out on the UK site, and I don't know if that was the case before this game launched!). I'm lucky to have plenty of dungeon bits and bobs to dress the scene if I want to.

      Yeah that’s probably it. I’ll probably try and get some of the Moria terrain myself and use it in the game. Are you gonna do a video about using general bits of terrain to create different challenges that you mentioned in the video? Seems like with that and a maybe moving the positions of the Fellowship, it’d be really easy to create a lot of fun variants on the scenario.

      That's possibly so. I should have checked the UK site when the game was first announced, when I was checking for the pricing on the other sprues but I didn't really think about it. GW stock is wonky at the moment. The Balin's Tomb game was showing as no longer available one day into preorders, and stores like Element Games were saying the game was out of print and no longer being supplied by GW, then yesterday it came back into stock and Element Games are taking orders again as they are expecting more stock to arrive.

    • @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring
      @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring  8 месяцев назад +1

      It's very similar, except the use of the ring symbols to trigger abilities, and the special dice for the troll. Unfortunately, I didn't think much to the game itself after repeated plays, as it has some flaws that really hamper gameplay. There is another review on the channel where I talk about that in detail.

    Got mine in the mail today. Great review. It seems like the only sizable oversight was not including the goblin cards drawn per each turn. I agree, a slash with the number of cards after each turn number would seem to have remedied this.

    • @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring
      @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring  2 года назад

      It's a small thing, but it definitely would have made it a bit smoother to play by removing the need to reference a chart in the rules. Seems odd they would omit it, really.

    • @zerohonour3940
      @zerohonour3940 2 года назад

      Yeah, but this way you can use the one ring as a turn marker. I'd have had the draw numbers on a card.

    • @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring
      @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring  2 года назад +1

      I don't see how a second smaller number just offset from each turn number would prevent the use of the ring marker. There's plenty of space on the turn tracker to add it without interfering with what's there.

      I think so, yes. It has a really simple core system so it's pretty easy to tinker with. I kind of feel GW could have gone a bit further with this and made a Mines of Moria adventure game with modular map tiles. I do wonder if the "A Middle-Earth Adventure Game " subheading implies they might do more games in the setting down the road.

    Posting here because this game is coming back next week (for how long idk...). In any case the overall vibe seems to be you get it for the models (especially if you play MESBG) and not really for the gameplay because the gameplay that is there is a bit shallow. I would love to see GW take another crack at these 1 shot scenario LOTR board games, something with a bit more "meat on the bones".

      A combination of heroic versus realistic proportions, and GW scale creep means the two lines are a little out of whack. The last human miniatures I got from Age of Sigmar were in Cursed City, and Gandalf's head hardly reaches the human vampire hunter's shoulder. • @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring
      @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring  2 года назад

      Yes, the board depicts the scene from the movie so has a raised area around the edge. However, there are no rules for climbing up, jumping down, using stairs, gaining a height advantage in melee or an improved LOS. As far as the game rules are concerned, all the spaces are the same and you can move and attack between then regardless of the board art. I feel like perhaps there was originally going to be something but they stripped it out to keep the game simple (and perhaps accidentally stripped out rules about pillars, as the rules don't say you can't move through them!).
