      Having had to study the mathematical notation he invented, I can't say I'm particularly surprised. I wouldn't be surprised at any of his moves, though I would also assume that Einstein studied chess for longer, and probably did play.
      You know who would kick all of their ass at chess out of the physicists of that day? John von Neumann. If von Neumann had studied chess instead of mathematics, he'd probably be the greatest of all time by a wide margin.

    Hi Gotham, at 1:21 you state that "There are more chess positions possible [...] than there are atoms in the universe" which is unfortunately incorrect. There are more chess games possible than atoms in the universe, but the number of possible legal chess positions is closer to the number of atoms on earth (specifically the current lowest upper bound is about 10^48)

    just a small note: there are more possible games than atoms in the universe, not positions. It is estimated that there are more than 10^80 atoms. As a simple estimation of the positions, one can calculate with 64 squares, which can take one of 13 states (empty, K, k, Q, q, R, r, ...). That gives you 13^64 different positions, or about 10^71. Obviously, this includes numerous incorrect positions; in fact, there are probably only 10^44ish positions. A popular estimate for the number of games is 10^120

    quick fact ceck :
    How many chess positions are possible?
    It is estimated there are between 10^111 and 10^123 positions (including illegal moves) in Chess. (If you rule out illegal moves that number drops dramatically to 10^40 moves.
    it is estimated that there may be 10^78 to 10^82 atoms in the known universe.
    so unless you count illegal moves, the universe is still winning. doesnt change what you're trying to say though, theres a crazy amount of possible chess positions

      To make the game more appealing to youngsters, they should start calling it a horse and notate it with an H. Rooks should probably be called Towers as well.

    Your claim is incorrect. There are more possible chess *moves* throughout an entire game than atoms in the universe. If we consider only positions, then the number of positions is in the magnitude of 10^45, which is lower than the number of atoms on earth, with a magnitude of 10^50, let alone the universe (magnitude of 10^80).

      No. Checkmating 10 000 opponents is not as significant if the quality of play of the opponents is significantly lower. Magnus Carlsen has the record he has against people who, on their own right, are far better than almost any player of the 20th century, with few exceptions. This is what makes Carlsen such a great player.

      This was a legit game

    • @anonymustarrasque3550
      @anonymustarrasque3550 Год назад +1

      @@Thiago.Acquati That doesn't necessarily mean it actually happened. All it means is that Levy didn't invent the game (which I already knew) and that if it is fake, then the lie - though it may well be real and not a lie - was created long ago. I mean, throughout history you see tons of people invent ridiculous lies. Just look at the Great Moon Hoax of 1835 as a perfect example.

    • @AutPen38
      @AutPen38 Год назад

      It's most likely not legit. The moves were listed in a book in the 1950s, but even the author of that said he had no proof the game actually had these exact moves. Later books and videos copied from the first publication, but neglected to mention the original author's doubts. As time moves on, lies, hearsay, mistranslations, and mistakes become "accepted truths", and whatever really happened gets lost. See also: The Bible, or any history book that describes something that happened two hundred years ago. It's basically all made up.

    He's most notably the conceptual artist who made Fountain, the readymade sculpture that's just a urinal on a plinth.
    But he was also an accomplished amateur chess player. He was a French delegate to FIDE, he wrote a book on endgame theory, and he played the US Champion Frank Marshall to a draw in 1930.
