Scott, great job as always! Please keep on doing economy reviews. You’re one of the only ones who does them (well). Most everyone else is posting crazy luxury experiences that no one can afford. Keep it going!
Terminal 8 at JFK is really nice and I love the AA 777 model they have on display. I just flew on the Qsuite with Qatar from there and I totally agree, no airline spoils their passengers like Qatar!
Interesting. I flew Cathay Pacific Business Class Johannesburg to Los Angeles via Hong Kong in July 2017.In Dec21-23 I am flying Durban (South Africa) to Trinidad & Tobago via Doha and JFK New York. Getting the Q Suite On Qatar between Doha and JFK on December 22. Looking forward to it
Hi Scott, Happy New Year, came across this year old vid. Classic sarcasm and great content. It’s nice to start the new year with one of your airline reviews over morning breakfast . Fingers crossed 2021 will see you in the air safe and sound.
Planning on Doing this route next year, so hey thanks for hyping me up even more! On a side note, I've never seen someone be so excited over warm nuts 😂
For your info about the ashtray. It’s a legal requirement because *IF* someone lights a cigarette they have to have somewhere safe to dispose of it and any of the bins, such as the toilets, would pose a fire risk.
9:49 I thought airlines still include ashtrays for safety reasons? That way if someone does smoke, they can dispose of their cigarette butts safely (and not start a fire).
Ryan Moroso Exactly, I asked a flight attendant once with the purpose of that was and they said they still have to do it because it’s safer to have that than it would be for somebody to flush it down the toilet. In fact if it doesn’t have an ashtray in the toilet, the plane can’t fly legally
@@sanspotter The funny thing is is that I've heard of bathrooms having them, but I hardly notice them even though I fly a decent amount (but no where close to you!). Granted, I don't look out for them, so maybe Cathay has them placed a bit more prominently.
Hi Scott, I’m a Cabin Crew member who loves to watch your videos. To help stop confusion as to why there are ash trays in the toilets of planes in 2019 and for the rest of life, is simply due to safety :). We will always have people try and smoke in toilets and get away with it. Hopefully if we catch them we discard the cigarettes inside the ash tray which is a safe place to distinguish a cigarette instead of the bin which is full of flammable hand towels and tissues. Which of course can make a fire worse at 39,000 ft. Hopefully that answers anyone’s questions as to why we have ash trays on board. X
Nice! CX's J is a sturdy product as shows that you don't actually need the individual privacy doors to great a good hard product. Service can be a little hit and miss but if you get a good crew, you're sure to have a good flight.
The only time I have actually been to JFK Airport was back in 2008 when I think I was only 3. I need to go visit New York and try out Cathay Pacific. But I did notice that their were some surprising similarities with the Turkish Airlines Economy Product and Cathay Pacific's Business class. Turkish's economy class also had an amenity kit which had really comfortable slippers, ear plugs, and a sleeping mask. The legroom obviously wasn't as good as business but it was still quite comfortable and so was the IFE. Fantastic Trip Report Scott and Huge Like!
Great video, the ash trays are still there are on the off chance someone smokes the flight attendants can dispose of it somewhere safe ie. not the bin or sink.
Scott! You were cracking me up with your juxtaposing your salmon and avocado with the Minions! Heee!!! Nice that you were up the road from me in Vancouver!! Great video!!! Eileen
Another awesome SANspotter video! In your upcoming SAN based flights can you show a bunch of the airport? It has been a few years since I have been there & the addition of the new terminal. Would be nice to see the changes. Keep the videos coming!
I just flew this same route on Thanksgiving day. I stayed at TWA hotel for the day (you also did this in another video, right? The space in this seat is still amazing. Pretty much no restrictions whatsoever. Oh.. and there were about 50 pax total on this leg. I loooveee Cathay Pacific :) And the T8 at JFK is really nice.
Yeah, the flight I was was on was very empty as well. Probably one of the reasons why it’s being discontinued! I stayed at the TWA hotel again before this flight as well. The perfect setup for the CX business class experience. 😎
Scott, do you know the reason airlines still have ashtrays in the lavs? It's because if, god forbid, someone did smoke in there, there is a safe place to put the cig vs throwing it away and starting a fire. By the way, all airlines require ashtrays in their lavs. You just haven't noticed
JFK Flagship Lounge and Flagship Bridge (next time take a right when your Check in at Flagship very quite and complimentary ala-carte food options) is probably the most underrated club at JFK that business class passengers can access. First Class is another story but for the mid-haul J customers EXCELLENT Lounge.
I just love how consistent and modest (in the literal best way possible) ALL of your content is, I'm pretty OCD, and I must say it's greatly appreciated, cheers Scott! P.S., does 7:36 maybe have something to do with 3:29? Or am I overthinking things hahaha

Good video! When you (at 1:16) said you booked this flight "for only 35..." I thought you were going to say 35 Dollars LOL, I was about to spit my food out but then you said 35000 Points... lol, silly me. Great job again! Cheers

So glad your nuts were warm ( I promise I will not write this bad joke again !!) I am sure you would NOT be the first to mix up the bedding !! Cathay have always been one of my favourite carriers since the mid 1980's and have flown with them from Melbourne (Aus) to London on the 747 in Business Class many times and have always found their food and service to be amongst the best ! Great review again mate...always look forward to your flights and funny comments !! Warm nuts to you!!
Another great video Scott! I'm glad you finally got to experience Cathay Pacific's business class. You should treat yourself more often! I love Cathay business but I may be biased as they are the second business class product i ever flew, and can't wait till march when I fly them again on their A350 HKG - EWR in business! Great steady camera work as usual. Did you use the Go-pro 8 on this one? Cheers!
Thanks ‘Miser! Can’t say that I’m not jealous about your upcoming A350 adventure - that sounds fun! Anyway, there were only a few clips using the Hero 8 in this video. I had just purchased it right before the flight and I was still learning how to get the most out of it...
Scott ... just a thought ... Air Canada flies either 787 -9 nonstop from Newark to Vancouver and their Signature Service Business Class is lovely. Perhaps this may be a reason why CX is discontinuing their flight.
Waking up to see Scott posted a new video= PRICELESS!!!!!, FYI can we give Cathay Pacific 10 bonus points for the avocado tar tar? Also have you tried Japan Airlines business class?
Glad to be part of your morning routine JS! 😄 And yes! I’ll go ahead and add 10 extra points. Also, I have flown JAL business class several times. A very very good product!
SANspotter I am happy to have found your channel about a month ago, I need to check to see if you have a JAL review. Thank you for the reply and safe travels
nice CX review thier scott, dont hink you can compare with any of the big 3 middle eastern airlines, their on another level, especially in Business class. maybe you should fly LAX-HKG to get a better CX experience.
Since SAN is our home airport, I hope to see more videos of home! I do acknowledge the lack of international options and cost premium flying out of here though.
Yeah, it’s been a while since I’ve done a proper SAN video! I’ve actually got 3 planned over the next 6 weeks though, so I guess that’s a good start. 😄
This has been a flight for almost 20 years. Nobody seemed to know about it. It was 400$ return for years. I can't believe more people in YVR didn't take advantage of this, to visit New York, and vice versa.

The ashtrays are on every plane actually, just in case if someone smokes they can just light it out instead of creating an onboard fire by throwing it in the garbage!
Observation : Avocado Tartare??? Can there be anything but.... avocado is usually served raw/mashed (rarely cooked and even cooking doesn't change the taste in the way meat does) anyway unlike meat which of course tartare defines that it hasn't been cooked.
10:00 I somehow saw this one coming, haha. Sounds like something that could happen to me. @@sanspotter It's a pleasure. Also considering the amount of followers you already have and the responses you get, I am impressed you manage to remember me (and others, of course).
honestly the distance between jfk and yvr is about 2400 miles so I would think that a 777 is a little too big for that more like a 737 or a321 would fit and heck yeah I'm reading your blog!
Thanks for reading the blog! 😎👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 This CX flight started when there weren’t many aircraft that could do HKG-JFK nonstop, so YVR was technically a stopover between the US and Asia. Now with long-range aircraft such as the A350 coming online, the YVR stopover is unnecessary (and is being cut soon).
While smoking is not allowed on flights these days they a put the ashtray in the bathroom just in case somebody decides to smoke they rather they put it in the ash tray then put it in a garbage full of paper
I take it a number of people have already commented that the ashtray you sort of make fun of is there for safety in case someone lights up, so I won't mention it. ;-)
Why are they doing a short flight from New York to Vancouver and why is Cathay Pacific doing it there from a different country wouldn’t Air America do it or Delta
Cathay Pacific Staff are told to be reactive, not proactive. Which personally I enjoy more and most Asian people prefer. I don't want someone talking/interrupting to me every 30 minutes. In J Class If you pressed the call button someone is always there within 30 seconds, I cannot say the same of North american airlines. While staff is not overly friendly I have never encountered anyone rude either. Also the way the seats are angled and the "wing" close to the head it's extremely difficult to notice your neighbors. My sources: More than 100 J class Cathay flights. BTW, I love your reviews and content! two thumbs up
Hong Kong's Cathay is struggling to cope with the lack of customers from their home base. Issuing a voluntary 1 month no pay leave to staff. Stop making your premium products so expensive compared to your rivals and maybe you'll win back more long & short haul customers. Their onboard service has deteriorated for years. That's why so many CEO's changed hands and many staff have quit.
SANspotter try this on a longer flight. I too tried out CX for the first time on the JFK-YVR route in F class and it was eh. I recently did HKG-BOS in F and it was worlds better. Just a heads up.
The three best trip reporters are Jeb brooks Dennis bunnik and sanspotter I know Sam sui has the most subscribers but in his videos people seem like they just want him to make a positive review about their airline which is true and probably the case for all the trip reporters but it is more present in Sam suis videos
Thanks Emily! We are all a little different, but I do appreciate what Sam does - he has access to things that little guys like me will never get, and I’m ok with that. He presents that content very well IMHO and it’s fun to live vicariously through him. I love the content Jeb and Dennis put out as well! 😎👍🏻
i’ve been binging all your videos recently and i’m suddenly into airplanes now!?’

Nice vid, as always. Btw, there was something that I think would make Paul Lucas laugh, but I'm not going to say....
Thanks! #boardingnotboarding? 😆
Suggestion: LAX to NAN and NAN to LAX economy class on Fiji airways?
Lov ur vids
honestly the distance between jfk and yvr is about 2400 miles so I would think that a 777 is a little too big for that more like a 737 or a321 would fit and heck yeah I'm reading your blog!
Why it will end?
While smoking is not allowed on flights these days they a put the ashtray in the bathroom just in case somebody decides to smoke they rather they put it in the ash tray then put it in a garbage full of paper
I take it a number of people have already commented that the ashtray you sort of make fun of is there for safety in case someone lights up, so I won't mention it. ;-)
Love ur videos
Thanks so much!
8:33 Did i see that chicken as a frog licking the sauce😂
You’ve got a vivid imagination... 💭😂
Why are they doing a short flight from New York to Vancouver and why is Cathay Pacific doing it there from a different country wouldn’t Air America do it or Delta
This is just a leftover route from a time when there were few aircraft that couldn’t do JFK-HKG nonstop.
Ok thanks just wondering
Damn March 27th the date this route was ending! Who could have seen the subsequent events...
Boxers or briefs?
That’s classified. 🤐😆
@@sanspotter hahaha
@@sanspotter Great Video! I'll find out one day...
Neil is the best I love his channel!
BTW, I love your reviews and content! two thumbs up
All airplanes in the US are required to have ash trays - if you haven't noticed
Every aircraft is required to have ashtrays at every lavatory. So not so surprising.
I definitely learned something new. I had no idea! 👍🏻
Five star coverage
Hong Kong's Cathay is struggling to cope with the lack of customers from their home base. Issuing a voluntary 1 month no pay leave to staff.
Stop making your premium products so expensive compared to your rivals and maybe you'll win back more long & short haul customers. Their onboard service has deteriorated for years. That's why so many CEO's changed hands and many staff have quit.
Does JFK really have 8 terminals?
Yup - surprised me too!
No “turn-down” Service ? They did on Hainan BC (would have avoided the mattress pad /duvet faux pas ) 🤷♂️🤔🤮
Yup, that was one of the reasons why this was just a “so-so” flight for me. The cabin crew wasn’t very proactive IMHO.
SANspotter try this on a longer flight. I too tried out CX for the first time on the JFK-YVR route in F class and it was eh. I recently did HKG-BOS in F and it was worlds better. Just a heads up.
The three best trip reporters are Jeb brooks Dennis bunnik and sanspotter
I know Sam sui has the most subscribers but in his videos people seem like they just want him to make a positive review about their airline which is true and probably the case for all the trip reporters but it is more present in Sam suis videos
Thanks Emily! We are all a little different, but I do appreciate what Sam does - he has access to things that little guys like me will never get, and I’m ok with that. He presents that content very well IMHO and it’s fun to live vicariously through him. I love the content Jeb and Dennis put out as well! 😎👍🏻
75 point out of?
60. Which means that Cathay Pacific absolutely knocked it out of the park. 😄
it's 25k asia miles
When are you going to fly the Worlds best? Singapore Airlines?
January. 😎
SANspotter can’t wait for that review!!! Where are you flying to?
My man hasn’t done United Polaris yet
Hopefully sometime this year!
