    I flew with them from JFK to Rome and back last summer. The flight was pretty full in back but light in Premium Economy where my husband and I sat. The service was just about what you described and made for a nice flight. My husband is tall so we are always looking for a cost effective way to be comfortable and Norse was great. They are definitely the airline to beat for us if we travel to Europe since once you get to a big city it is easy to travel by train.

    It's really quite depressing that a fantastic airline might not survive because people are too stuck in their ways and unwilling to take 2 minutes of basic research for a better product.

    It doesn't look like you noticed that the footrest actually flips down and extends longer. Not just comes out from the chair. It's nice for taller people. As a travel agent, I try to promote Norse as much as I can, because I agree with you! It's my favorite long haul premium class line and I don't want it to go away!

    I was just replying to another comment on here but I thought I would leave my own to correct you and tell you Norwegian did not go bust during the pandemic, but they closed all their long haul routes down and got rid of their 787s. But they are alive and well and operating 737s all over Europe. You can even see two of their flights on the Gatwick departures screen in the video. Great review of Norse though, I hope they can sustain the long haul low cost model.

    I also live very close to Gatwick, on a bus stop away to be precise. The entrance and check in area of the south terminal has been in a state of renovation for so mamy years. But airside it is good and they have lounges you can pay for, and a Camden food company if you looked, the last time I was there i saw it tucked away in a corner. Norse Atlantic's predecessor had a big base at LGW, and they had 14 hour flights to Buenos Aires and Bangkok too as well as a lot of shorthaul. Norse are flying to a few places including Las Vegas, Los Angeles and other places.

    • @sanspotter
      @sanspotter  8 месяцев назад +1

      Yeah, I noticed that Camden food co! I was half tempted to check it out, but figured that a proper breakfast at a sit down restaurant would be a better choice considering that I had no idea what the food on Norse would be like.

    We have flown to and from various US cities on Norse over the past few years, in both economy and premium economy. All of our flights have been fantastic. I would 100% choose them over Virgin or BA. We are flying one way back from Miami to London in a few weeks (after a transatlantic cruise) and I found an absolutely insane fare of £203 pp premium economy classic!!! It was over double that in standard economy with anyone else! An absolute no brainer.
    For ref, although the south terminal at Gatwick is not the best, i love that they have pay to use lounges so for circa £25, you can have unlimited food and drinks in a lounge for 3 hours. Perfect!

  • @BobBrown.
    @BobBrown. 8 месяцев назад +3

    I just checked. Oct 2024 dates Norse basic economy (no seat selection no checked luggage) LGW-JFK is 470 round trip versus 448 round for United economy (seat selection and 1 checked luggage). In premium economy classic Norse is 984 round trip (1 checked luggage) versus United for 1003 round trip (2 checked luggage). With these prices, I would pick United as I can collect miles and use my *G status for lounge access (lounges in Heathrow are so much better). Plus United departs from Heathrow which is much easier to get to compared to Gatwick.

    Thank you for the review. In future reviews, can you possibly show what your seat looks like when the person in front on you reclines their seat all the way. This usually ruins my flight, when the passenger in front of me reclines their seat all the way, into my space, even before we take off. I feel I also pay the same fee for my seat, so keeping other passengers in mind will be a great idea. So even though it is nice to see how far my seat reclines, it would be great to see how far the passenger in front of me reclines as well. Thanks for your awesome videos. Looking forward to the next one.

    I just flew Norse JFK to BER round trip. Prices were about 1/3 of the other airlines. Jfk terminal 7 is not the best, but all of the shops were open on a late Sunday night, which was unexpected. In Berlin, the gate was T1 D17 which was in an isolated area of the terminal... but they did open the bar/ restaurant for our flight. My seats were in economy with extra legroom rows 7 and 11, which were worth the extra price to me. The row 7 seats are not great since they are next to the kitchen. There is no bulkhead in front of you for storage, and the screens are in the armrest, which means you can't lift them if the seat next to you is empty. Row 11 was better for me, even though you are behind the bathroom and hear every flush. Food was decent, crew was nice and the planes were in great shape.

    Love the report Scott. Really hope Norse make it too. In a purely selfish way you want them to stay under the radar because like Norwegian the fares can be extraordinary. Already eyeing LAX to LGW. They don’t seem to appear on search engines, maybe I’m wrong. They have just introduced a brave new route from LGW to Cape Town. Lots to admire. Fingers and toes crossed for them.

    We flew Norse Atlantic in premium in Feb this year: Gatwick to Orlando, and Miami to Gatwick. The flight out was brilliant. Great flight attendant (A.J.) and had no complaints about anything. Return flight not so great - completely different attitude anong the cabin crew.
    The main thing with Norse is the PRICE. It is a fantastic deal. We paid around £500 each, each way. All the competitors on the same routes were a minimum of double, and on the return from Miami, THREE times the price.
    Really do hope they survive - we'd love to fly on them again.
    Unfortunately, I'm a bit of a jinx on airlines: loved Wardair back in the 70s (got absorbed by Canadian Pacific, then they went bust), loved British Caledonian in the 80s (they got taken over by British Airways.... nuff said?).

    I flew this product in the short lived LAX-BER route (I booked the day the route was announced because it fit perfectly into my existing travel plans) so. I had more time to enjoy the seat.
    Thanks to massive recline it can be bothersome to get out of a window or center seat if the seat in front of the aisle seat is reclined. Many passengers didn't realize the footrest AR adjustable. The premium trays sometimes don't stow correctly which led to a go around in Berlin. because the cabin crew wasn't finished securing the premium cabin.
    I'm currently looking into the BER-JFK and Mia-ber route this fall. Of course premium (with these prices). Pro tipp: it's cheaper to book the cheapest premium option and add luggage than to book the medium premium option which as far as I can see only has added luggage.

    Looks fantastic! BTW I live very close to LGW and it's a much nicer experience IMO than LHR which is ridiculously busy. LGW is small, and there are several restaurants and bars with runway or ramp views, plus plenty of decent shops. I always get to the airport early even though I'm a 10 minute taxi ride away and I always find things to fill my time. It's easy to get to LGW from central London (don't use the Gatwick Express - use the Thameslink service - just as reliable, not quite as fast but it's fast enough, and it's a fraction of the price.

    • @sanspotter
      @sanspotter  8 месяцев назад +1

      Oddly enough, I paid for a ticket on the Gatwick Express from central London, but the weather was really bad that day and they had to shut it down. They put us on what I assume was the Thameslink service instead. It was a very expensive ride on a low budget train. 😅

Question for you Scott, given that this is clearly better than most premium economies (I've just watched your Air France from Chicago!) should Norse be branding this option differently? I'd call it "Plus", that is to say not premium economy and not business.
    I have LGW to CPT (11.30 hours) in January, I think in the same seat as you! My budget doesn't normally stretch beyond economy but as I bought this one before the route had started it was an offer I couldn't refuse, i.e. much cheaper than BA economy.

    I did two premium flights from Gatwick to JFK, one in 2018 on Norwegian, one last year on Norse. The seats were different in my experience. The Norwegian seats were a struggle to get out of, and you had to ask the people in the seats in front of you to unrecline, otherwise there was not enough room between the seat back and the armrest for you to escape your seat. There was plenty more room in the Norse seats.

    Yes Norse is doing better with New York than certain other US destinations. From LGW flight schedules have been reduced to certain other US points while BOS and IAD have been axed. Norse's foray to the Caribbean has failed (even for the limited schedules planned for winter 2024/5. Maybe CPT will prove to be a success.

    Norse Atlantic basically just took over the old Norwegian 787s and started up with these second hand planes in a new paint scheme. Its a similar thing with WOW Air & PLAY, they just simply took up the old business model under a new name and took notes on where things went wrong before.

    Hey, at least you got your steps in while at Gatwick, lol. I'm becoming a free agent since I probably won't qualify for Asiana Diamond this year, no more Star Aliiance Gold :( . The premium economy seats and experience on Norse-wegian look great. I'd consider it. Though yes, it would be interesting to see Premium Economy full and compare it with what you had. I love that Norse, JetBlue, and others are willing to step into the Trans-Atlantic space, the better, for us not just in price, but hopefully quality too. Thanks for sharing.

    • @sanspotter
      @sanspotter  8 месяцев назад +1

      You’re very welcome! Yeah, I suspect that one of the reasons why Norse is struggling so much is that most travelers are stuck in one or two major airline alliances. It’s hard to justify flying long-haul and not getting valuable status points on a “real” airline for it. And yes - I’d love to try this again on a full flight just to see if the experience is any different. My economy Norwegian Air flight from London to Los Angeles in 2019 was completely full and it was pretty nice actually.

    As a frequent flyer, who has flown from most of the UKs major airports. I find your criticism of Gatwick to be ridiculous. It's by far one of the best airports in the UK, and the amenities are fantastic. If you're departing from South terminal, arriving ahead of schedule. Then catching the monorail to the North terminal is advised, the North is far better equipped.

    I remember the old version. Both flights were the worst I ever had. We went from Oakland to Denmark. We left eight hours late. My seat was broken, and I cut my ankle when boarding. The seat back would not sit upright, so I sat on the edge of my seat the whole flight. The flight attendants were so unpleasant it was shocking. Our return flight was to be the reverse landing in Oakland. They changed us to a flight landing in San Francisco, which, of course, would not let us transfer to our flight home. So we called telling them we wanted what we paid for and then told them we wanted the seats we paid for. They said ok and gave no explanation as to why they switched us to a different airport. When we got to the airport, we were told we had different seats. We were delegated to the center seats, putting us next to some random guy who was ill, and again, I got another broken seat. I tried for months to get some kind of compensation but to no avail. I would not chance it again, so as far as I am concerned, they can go out of business. I am glad you had a fairly decent flight.

    • @sanspotter
      @sanspotter  8 месяцев назад

      Wow, sounds like a very bad experience. I will admit that the flight attendants on this particular flight seemed cold and disinterested as well - but everything else was great. Hopefully you’ll reconsider and give them another chance someday!

    Whenever I look at this airline for flights, they are normally only about £40 cheaper than the main carriers so I just pay more for a better economy product.
