Raheem Morris On Why Atlanta Drafted Michael Penix Jr. & What It Means For Kirk Cousins

- Recorded: May 9th 2024 | In our final interview from our trip to Atlanta, the boys sit down with Head Coach Raheem Morris. Coach gets into what it's like building a staff when becoming a head coach and the different coaches he called to come with him. The boys ask him how he got his start in coaching and what he has taken from each stop he has had along the way, including being a part of the 2013 Redskins staff. Coach Morris was the interim head coach for Atlanta 4 years ago but didn't get the head job because they decided to hire Arthur Smith instead. Coach talks about how he feels about being back in the building after they decided not to go with him in the first place. The guys end the pod by talking about the decision to draft Michael Penix Jr. and the conversation that was had between Coach Morris and Kirk Cousins. All in all you can tell that Coach Morris is just another one of the boys and will feel good about the Falcons going into the season. Enjoy.

I understand where the coach is coming from,you can't leak to the QB #1, that You're gonna draft another QB,so I do understand that,plus if you've played in the league for more than 10years is a blessing,so to get 100million guaranteed is another blessing,and to get to play for your wife's family homme team is also a blessing,and to have made a career 350milloin in 12 yours before 40 is a blessing,so to not ever want someone to eventually replace you is crazy.

Shows how ridiculous drafting Penix and signing Kirk was: 1st Terry says Penix can sit for 4 or 5 years NO HE CANNOT and WILL NOT now in this interview Raheem says Kirk will still be the QB IF HE WINS 2 SBs. So Kirk somehow has to win 2 SBs to keep his job in 2 years. WTF? It doesn't matter if Kirk is playing at a PRO BOWL LEVEL, is a top 10 QB in the NFL, is getting 4000 yards 30 TDs 10 INTs etc unless he wins 2 SBs (Wins including SBs are a team stat by the way not a QB stat) he will be gone in 2 years HUH?

Ummmm. Yeah. If you look at how his contract was structured it was always basically a 2 year deal. That was evident as soon as he was signed largely due to his age and injury. They were always going to draft his successor sooner rather than later. They just shocked everyone by doing it this year. All they're saying is if Kirk goes out and performs at the highest level and wins at the highest level he will remain the QB. The only surprise is NO ONE expected a QB at 8 after they signed Kirk to that deal. They didn't follow the status quo and that's why people are triggered and puzzled about it.
Still doesn’t make sense on the draft pick because you lose that huge advantage of the rookie contract.
