- Det Doctor decides to make a holonovel, which actually becomes quite famous. However, it kinda seems like it's referring to something, oh I don't know, Voyager perhaps?
Well, here's Tom Paris' first look at it.
From "Star Trek: Voyager", season 7, episode 20 "Author, Author"
Buy the series on DVD og Blu-ray
This is probably the most bizarre choice that the Doctor made in his story. Between Picard, Sisko, Janeway, Archer, even Kirk, I can't imagine a situation where a Starfleet Captain would murder a crewman so that the helmsman can be treated faster. Sounds like something a captain of the Terran Empire would do.
Yeah Terrans were crazy as we have seen In Star Trek,DS9 and ENT but it those 2 kickass mirror ENT episodes (and if we got a Season 5 there would have been a continuation) were they all just betray, murder,Torture,Steal Leadership like power crazy nuts no wonder their empire failed.I wonder if they based it off the Roman Empire a bit
@@juanelorriaga2840 The salute they do in the TOS mirror episode is heavily based on a Roman salute if I recall correctly. (A salute that, in-turn, inspired Mussolini to create the Fascist salute, which the Nazis adopted.)
*cough* Tuvix *cough*
@@philbertchow5425 Tuvix doesn't count since he wasn't supposed to exist. If Tuvix was spared, both Tuvok and Neelix would've been lost.
@@deathbykonami5487 Tuvix most definitely does count, 'he wasn't supposed to exist' doesn't invalidate the fact that he DID exist and was a living, breathing, thinking and caring being that begged for his life before being cruelly murdered.
"Marseille" instead of "Paris" is an amazing piece of wordplay, I legitimately had to pause the episode I was laughing so hard hahahaha
I didn't even realize it untill i read your comment. That and all the other bits of change to the characters and Voyagers name really makes this otherwise intense scene so much more fun.
I like Chakotay's patriotic Bajoran prison tattoo.
I'm convinced the mirror universe is just the doctor's fan fic
Paris really gets into the role of the doctor. It feels off that he would go along so willingly with what the doctor „should“do. I assume it’s because he is a holo Suite pro
He also emulates the Doctor's acerbic and brusque personality from the first season.
I enjoyed Paris's version, that was so funny!
It's the Doctor's world. You're just living in it.
When I tell you your shift begins at 0800, that doesn't mean you can stroll in here at 0800 and 24 seconds! DO YOU UNDERSTAND ME ENSIGN!!!
@@troyterry6919 he could add "you think I wouldn't trade you for wesley crusher?"
“Their triplets ya know?”
@@troyterry6919 LOL.
It's such a stereotype, but man, Chakotay looks great with that braid!
I like to think that "Photons be Free" became popular for the same reason that Tommy Wiseau's "the Room" did, and that people around the Alpha Quadrant are playing this program in groups with audience participation a la "The Room" or "Rocky Horror Picture Show."
He's simultaneously a Bjoran and a Native American?
Janeway: "YOU'RE TEARING ME APART DOCTOR!!!! Oh, hey Chakotay, how's your sex life?"
Zippity Zop you told him! With no evidence, no supporting arguments and name calling, well done🧐
@@Claudanne2 Maybe half human half bajoran/ third bajoran quarter human or something.
@@sarahh6 that would make sense since the real Chakotay was a Maquis with partly bajoran crew. The doctor might've also been inspired by B'Elanna cause she's half human and close to Chakotay.
Dammit Doctor which literature were you programmed with? Games of Thrones?!
Hypochondriac Trill Harry Kim was the best part, especially real Harry's reaction to him
"Nice mustache."
What?
Damn. Way to leave a cliffhanger, huh. I want to see the next scene!
Personally I like the Warship Voyager version of Janeway in design only IMO.
Damn, Captain Not-Janeway totally red shirted that dude!
In the 24th Century the gold shirts were the expendable ones
TUVIX WAS MURDERED!!!
@@philbertchow5425 Tuvix is the origin of coroner. IT CORONER TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@@philbertchow5425 It wasn't murder, it was giving both Tuvok and Neelix their lives back the most humane way possible
@@deathbykonami5487 yes it was murder to seek out life not destroy or have you forgotten the message
Tom looks so cute in blue
That's gay bro
Are we sure that SF Debris didn't actually write this holoprogram? Cause that seems like his Janeway.
janeway a savage bruh
Why did you grunt?
"You should eat Harry!"
How does these holographic games work, like if you play a doctor but aren't one yourself can you say whatever mumbo jumbo comes to mind and the patient gets healthy?
Good point it's not like any rando crew member or person would know how to actually do surgery.
Perhaps there are different levels of difficulty.
To be fair, Paris spent a lot of time as a nurse.
Depends on how its programmed, most likely. But since it was programmed by the Doctor, it would probably require actual medical experience. Luckily, Paris has that.
@@SvendleBerries Other members of the crew that tried this version didn't have that. And later he tried to distribute it to the public and they wouldn't have that experience.
This is one of my favorite episodes
If they're in a scenario where not having their helmsman could endanger the whole crew, he should be prioritized.
Helmsman is one of the more basic roles on the bridge, realistically any other crew member could carry out his duties. For large portions of TNG they have an unqualified cadet as helmsman.
@@samrowland2816 The Enterprise didn't spend 7 years in the Delta Quadrant, but you're right. Paris spent 30 days in the brig and Voyager did fine. At the very least, the critically injured patients could've been put in transporter stasis first.
For a “sophisticated holonovel” the Doctor made a lot of cliche one-dimensional characters. Then I remember that the Doctor only spent months on it when creating an original story usually takes years.
To be fair, he's technically seven years old.
This alternate Captain Janeway? Fuk, I'm jumping ship first place I can. No No no no and HELL NO,
the way she says: ‘drop the forcefield’
It's funny how everyone else are thinly veiled characachers, but Janeway is completely in character! (Well, except for doing that in front of so many witnesses.)
The doctor's holonovel was very cruel and insensitive to his crewmates, and that's what makes it a great piece of writing. Data would never produce something like that as he's simply too polite, but the doctor is different. He's far to human to be that considerate!
oh... well damn, that is just messed up boi
I prefer the episode Living Witness and its depiction of the Alternate Universe (I know it wasn't techincally, but you know what I mean.)
was Chakotay a Bajoran in one?
This is not what captain Jenway would do
Yes, Janeway may be hard and tough at times. Perhaps even ruthless, but not cold-hearted.
So can we all agree that those terrible ""Star Trek"" shows since Discovery are nothing but a bad fanfiction written by the Doctor?
no, the bad fanfiction is much better
Oh the Doctor's fan-fiction is much better.
He is a better writer than the people who wrotes Discovery. He has imagination. 🖖
This is the first walking simulator.
Bad ass janeway is awesome
"persons with vascular disorders should consult a doctor before running this program"
but... why?
that story made every one look bad
I prefer Tom's altered version. 🤣
Wait. What episode was this from? I dont' remember it.
Same here. I don't recall it either...
In the video description it says season 7, episode 20, though.
Indeed, it's called "Author, Author", great episode.
On Netflix it is Season 7 episode 19
The Doctor just presumed his culture?!
Nice moustache
Nice mustach... cracking up.
Imagine if Lt. Marseille was called Nick Locarno 😱!
You should eat Harrrryyyyy
Must have missed this episode.
oh dear
This episode had so many internal inconsistencies.
In this original version, The Doctor has Janeway phaser a crew member in cold blood. Later, during the briefing room scene, he states, “As far as I know, Captain, you haven’t murdered any of my patients.”
*cough* Tuvix *cough, cough*
Philbert Chow In that story, if Tuvix continued to exist, then Tuvok and Neelix would not. The captain needed the two crewmen.
@@JoeStoppinghem no, she needed Tuvix. He was the best of both the original characters that died in creating him. He was a gestalt far superior to the sum of his parts. That the Doctor refuses to do the procedure shows he acknowledged Tuvix was a living, sentient being with free will that he could not in good conscience kill.
what is wrong with you spergs?
@@JoeStoppinghem I lost my father in '05 and my mother in '94. If technology is developed that can bring them back by killing me, I'd like a say in the matter.
@@shadizersilverhand2113 Maybe they could have somehow saved Tuvok, kept Tuvix, and killed off the Chomo Neelix.
that chain on his ear is far too short

PLOTHOLE
how'd she know about the
forcefield ?
Probably a safe assumption seeing as the EMH was just standing there instead of rushing to the patient’s side.
So Janeway is pretty much on point as per her behaviour
:D no problem
Why does Paris suddenly act like the doctor
Because thats the role he's playing in this holonovel.
@@DarkLordDiablos Paris gets super into his holo programs
@@omittedprod Sure, let it be "gamer honor" or smth. But he even gets annoyed like the doctor would. Even though paris knows its a program and he comes at the whole situation from a very different angle than a serious normal player would.
He has no reason to play this game in a dedicated normal matter
well that's not quite right LOL
I can see why everyone hates AI art. This holonovel sucks.
This episode underlies all that was wrong with Voyager - too much cocky humour, overuse of the holodeck, no looming threat - it was obvious they'd get home without a scratch.
CiaranMcVeigh So they aren't allowed to a have occasional humor episodes? You must be real fun at parties.
Looming threat? Why? How many Trek shows have a "looming threat?"
Did Voyager have more holodeck episodes than TNG or DS9? No. So I guess it ISN'T what was wrong with Voyager.
Hello, opinionated American.
Yes, it had too much holodeck crap.
Humour is perfectly fine when used in moderation. Cocky scenes like this hardly convey a stranded ship fighting against the odds in the Delta Quadrant.
I don't think it had significantly more scenes in the holodeck, than the previous shows
CiaranMcVeigh Opinionated American? Are you not the one that came on here stating a bunch of negative opinions? I merely asked a few questions in response, but I'll give you my opinion. And I'll throw in some facts for the fun of it. Space is big, like really big. I'd imagine most of their journey would involve staring out the window if they didn't have recreation.
They aren't really stranded as they have a starship. As this is at the very end of the last season, it's only natural that they would be acclimated to a generational journey, and different crew members would have different hobbies to pass the time. They're also in contact with Starfleet at this point. Not every single episode needs to have them desperately hanging on for dear life, being chased by hostile aliens. Why would it be like that?
How about Deep Space 9, where they can just take a few weeks off from the war to learn how to play baseball on the holodeck.
Christus Regnet nice counter-attack. I like it. In my opinion people many times try to hate even the rich and good episodes of Voyager for no reason at all.
