I never owned a leatherman till 2 weeks ago. I got the Blue/Green Skeletool Was a gift to myself for being 9 months sober. I cannot believe how much use i have got out of this bad boy. It’s a dream EDC. I have used it to open boxes put spark plugs in a friends car used the knife to pry apart an old wooden shed at the base. And much more. But today I received the bit kit and oh my Wow. How awesome is having 42 tools on hand plus a knife and even a Bottle opener. Since i quit drinking i will pop the top with the bottle opener on a Coca Cola and cheers to you and your video. Very informative and hope all is well and blessed and your staying safe and healthy in these uncertain times. One last thing have you thought about super gluing the bit kits together and making them into one. Just an idea be well brotha
Very nice. Also the pliers. I never thought I would use the pliers so much. But now they are always in my pocket, I think I use them almost everyday. I have thought about gluing the bit kit together but guess I'm afraid of that commitment if I don't like it. Maybe I will double side tape them together first.
@MorsUmbra Thank you I appreciate it. Will be coming up on 31 months sober next week. Been an amazing journey. One day at a time. Happy new year to ya. May 2023 be the best of the best for you.
I chose the skeletool cx after watching a million reviews about it first. I live in Hong Kong, and at the price it is here, I could only afford one leatherman. I am beyond happy with it and the bit kit, and glad that I did all the research.
lucky enough to have just been given an older skeletool cx with the carbon fiber from my dad, it's so comfortable and nicely weighty to hold as a knife. he'd wanted to give it to me when I was way younger but my mam hadn't let him lol. great knife/multitool
Thanks for the great video, I carried a Skeletool everyday for almost 10 years! I switched to a Free P2 and swapped the knife and scissors so I can finally open a Leatherman blade left handed!! I gave the Skeletool to my son and now I need to buy another one for when I want to carry a lighter EDC :)
I have the expensive charge al, which is fantastic, but it's heavy and bulky, so I hardly ever use it,, I've just ordered a Skeletool CX and I hope I'll carry it every day,, great video,, thanks,, 👍
I work maintenance in a very large grocery warehouse. I have carried the Skeletool for quite some time and the proprietary flat bits are the leathermans downfall. The flat bit holder bends and distorts very easily and then the bit lock doesn't work. Having to carry adapters just to use standard bits is a pain in the you know what. I am getting ready to try out the Gerber Center drive because of the bit holder and one hand pliers deployment. Someone needs to make one (if they haven't already) that doesn't have the stuff no one uses like the bottle and can openers and add 1/4 and 5/16 nut driver bit storage. That would be the ultimate multi-tool in my eyes.
37gdog. I carry the Milwaukee 5-1 razor knife and pair of knipex Cobra XS and a tin with metric Allen and Phillips 1, 2, 3 and Robby 1 and 2 . Large flat head . 1/4 dive to 3/8 adapter . Torx 10 -25 . And 2" extension . I have it all in small chums wallet case with a Craftsman ratchet and polka pen . I work as Machinist and help maintenance alot so it my mini tool kit. Just what I carry .
As a child of abuse, I have always tried to keep as many things on me as possible -- you never know when things will go sideways. As a child, this meant pens and art supplies and flashlights and candy bars, so a backpack or pouch was pretty common. As I've gotten older I've found out that the more you know, the less you really have to carry AND have discovered the truth of the adage "every ounce counts". After many years, I've settled on the Leatherman Skeletool because really that BEST bit driver Leatherman makes is a game-changer; it can accept modified T-shank saw blades and files, for instance! All this with the serviceable open architecture seals the deal for me.
Good review! As a first time buyer, I too, got the Leatherman Wave a few months ago. Very nice, but slightly too big for pocket (for me). It's in my truck kit. Then I got the Leatherman Free T4 (knife) for EDC. Great size, I prefer the build over the Victorinox products. But now I want the Leatherman Surge.... I swear this is becoming an addiction!
surge is heavier and 0,5 inch bigger than the wave, my dad has both and weight difference isn’t big but the length it is but the pliers and sciccors are some much better than the wave version
I also edc the skely primarily because the bit kit. I like to keep the big Phillips head bit in the end because it doesn't cut into my palm when using the pliers. Also worth mentioning is they have a ratcheting bit extender which I'm looking at pretty hard to be an upgrade to the standard extender.
I wish the Skeletool had a pair of scissors, my CX would be perfect if it did. I still carry it a lot but I also slip a little Swiss Army Knife in my pocket along with it for the scissors (and tweezers). I carry my Wave to work, don't use most of the features with any regularity but I do maintenance work and I never know what strange feature is gonna come in handy for a given task. I also like the carabiner on the Skeletool more than I thought I would, sometimes I clip it to a belt loop instead of putting it in my pocket (I keep a lot of stuff in my pockets).
I just been watching another review of the Skeltool and his main gripe was no prybar. However if you look at the bigger screwdriver included in the handle it is pretty thick at the tip and the seat it clips into is also very thick steel. It would be fine as a prybar ( within reason ) maybe for prying paint tin lids ect.
I love the skeltool best multi-tool Leatherman has ever come out with. I use it literally every day. It.s got only the tools you really need, pliers, knife and screwdrivers.I've owned 3 of them, lost the first broke the blade on the second (which Leatherman has since replaced, and the one I carry in my pocket. Just a great little tool
Never a fan of opening a handle to access tools inside the scales. Much easier to acesses tools exposed on each side of the scales. But at the time I did not have a wire cutter/needle nose with a file, alongvwith a can opener and other equipment appointed together. The Skelletool is a great improvement over my old conventional Leatherman. More comfortable on my palms than the earlier scales diging into them. And the Carabiner! Better by far than a lanyard. Thank you for putting up your EDC video on You Tube.
Leatherman has had locking models for several decades. My first Wave and my Supertool are 22 years old, and doing fine. Though I do have a Skeletool CX, and a regular Skeletool. And another 25 or so Leatherman. Plus Victorinox Swisstools and Spirits, and SOGs, and Gerbers. The Skeletool CX is great. I was relieved to have a multitool with a few select features, and a blade with a fairly tough steel. I never think, "if only it had ..." More than enough choice of multitools with various features from which to select. And multitools are not heavy duty sustained use tools. So they are not a substitute for a tool box anyway. My Surge, and my Swisstool, are far better but too heavy just to toss in a pocket. Cheers!
I agree with you, I love my Wave, but you can't pocket carry it, it's belt holster or nothing ! I also love my Victorinox lock blade, but I've gotta have pliers, that's why the Skeletool is awesome ! You should look at some of the cheap small 22 magazine belt pouches, you can fit the Skeletool and bit kit in one item. They're also horizontal belt mount which is a really nice option.
I work in maintenance, five years ago switched from Sidekick to Skeletool, amazing how many tasks it can do. Happy Recommend the extra bits but I don’t carry these every day.
Great video! I carry my Skeletool CX every day and every where. I also have a Gerber Suspension with the nylon case and have tried my best to wear it and like it but I just can't. Love the Skeletool CX and now your video makes me want to order the bit kit. I've also have seen there's an adapter that fits into the carabiner /bottle opener that will accept the hex/Apex bits and doesn't interfere with the carabiner /bottle opener. 😎✌️
Best knife there is the One Hand Trekker. If it had a clip, it would be the best. But because it doesn't, the best EDC there and anywhere is the Skeletool. It has the best mix of everyday portability, minimalism and real world functions/uses.
I've had one of these for a couple of years. My only real niggle is that I wish the pocket clip was the other way up. Yeah, I can see that it would be difficult to engineer that way, but I have a short lanyard on it to give a bit more security in using the knife, and it would be really nice to have that at the top of my pocket for easy retrieval and the knife then the right way in my hand to open it.
I found nice Kydex cases on Ebay for my Wave tool and even for the bit kit and extender - Get the spring clip version as it is easy to clip on or remove - and you don't have to undo your belt to remove them - Plus I sometimes wear pants or even shorts outside of work which don't use a belt - I can clip them directly to the waistband for carry.
Glad you like the Skeletool. I am the opposite. I think it is the worst multitool that Leatherman makes. We got ours off the shelf at a discount for $40.00 and I still think it is over priced. I did a review video on the Skeletool and showed the pros and cons by using it for various tasks. The only good feature on the tool is the bit driver - which I mention in my video that Leatherman should have this on ALL their tools. I was pricing tools locally last week and the Skeletool is now $85.00 It wasn't worth the price at $40.00 - SMH Anyway, good video. And, I am glad you like the tool.
Please review the very affordable Milwaukee Fast Back knife - it comes with a lockable screwdriver (which can use the Leatherman bit kit attachments) and one of the best wire belt clips you can find. Home Depot sells them for $20 on sale - Very light for everyday carry too.
Like seeing all the positive reviews of the Skeletool since I just purchased one and waiting for it to be delivered. Where did you find the sheath for the bits?
I would love to take my Skeletool when traveling but because of the knife it wouldn't get through TSA obviously. Does anybody have any modifications to get it through TSA? I suppose I could just remove the blade altogether but a scissors or something else in its place would be great. Let me know what you all think. TY
What was the name of the smaller Leatherman that came with your wave? I cut the carabiner off of the skeletal, which basically made it the same size as your smaller tool. It’s perfect. I love it.
if its in a pouch on a belt you cant tell its there and I have a surge. actually I'm on my second one I broke the plyers doing something I shouldn't be doing with it. leatherman sent me a new one within a week of sending my old one off. skelitool seems a bit meh
I see the skeletool as a good edc but the wave and the surge as something you use at work alot in a pinch. For tradesman like electricians and maintenance folks I think the wave offers a lot. Especially with the replaceable cutters. But I am kinda with you on the skeletool the stuff I generally need are players, cutters akinife and a driver. I just kinda hate the Leatherman bits to be honest and am leaning towards a center drive despite my general dislike of Gerber. There is alsa a tool called something like the adv gun tool that has an awesome driver switch multiple lock points that also accepts atandard bits. Lots of good options out there. Atm I carry a Bradford guardian 3 small of back and and old school mint original super tool 100 I found in a junk bin at my father in laws that he didn't want. I will likely be putting together a little kit with a skeletool, whoa bits, the extender and a small ratchet driver for nuts and extra torque on the bits. Plus a good flashlight, I always have a high output small light at work. Found a really cool one that was 30% with prime that ended up being about 20$, (no battery though...) with a swivle head, magnetic base and 600 lumen max outpit. And so far it's been a great little light.
they should sell carbon fiber inserts that allow you to replace the tools you don't use inside the leatherman. keep the tool dense and strong while removing unnecessary weight. if i was a 3d printer i'd be on it, free idea for you guys reading the comments who have the equipment already!
I've carried Leatherman products since the original PST in the 80's. I remember everyone saying it was just a toy and would never catch on. I have two levels of EDC, casual and everything else. By casual I mean those times when I am just knocking around the house, going to the movies or out to dinner, etc. For this I use to carry a Skeletool but I switched to the Wingman in early 2020. I find it to be a far more versatile tool than the Skeletool including the fact that it can be carried either in a holster or via the pocket clip. My casual EDC is rounded out with a Kershaw Leek composite knife and a Streamlight ProTac 1L flashlight. For everything else I carry a Wave+ with a bit set. This is complemented with my Kershaw Leek as my primary blade, a Kershaw Shuffle II Tanto for grunt work and either a PorTac 1L or ProTac 2L as my flashlight (through if I am working nights I tend to carry both). When I purchased the Wingman it cam with the no-pocket nylon sheath which I promptly put into service for my Wave+ then I ordered another nylon sheath for the bit kit. I works great because it keeps everything low profile to my belt and I don't have to fiddle with the elastic pocket to get the bit set in and out. The leather sheath that came with my Wave+ now hold my Wingman on my belt.
You've got a new subscriber! Really liked your video. My Skeletool CX is arriving to my house today and I'm very excited. I have the original Wave which I'll be taking the bit out of (as it is a Phillips and flat-head in one and using it in my Skeletool. I like how I have both screwdriver options that way and use the flat-head as a pry or scraper too if I need it. Looking forward to EDC-ing this thing as my new daily carry multi-tool. Keep the videos coming and feel free to check out some of mine if you get the time :) Thanks again!
Hum....."don't use a can opener....NEVER use a bottle opener" ......Do you happen to come from Utah?!? Nothing negative from that assessment but you sound like my boss that "comes from Utah. ;) LOL! No, I understand your natural progressen with the tool choices. The only thing I would like to include is a can opener and a bottle opener. I find myself opening a can when I'm doing an overnight in a hotel or out in the woods and I really like a 🍺after my daily efforts. I have seen some mods to add the can opener with very little chainge. It is funny, you buy the stuff you think you need and then you have the reality of what you really have in your pockets daily.
I say take the bit driver side of the skeletool off and swap it onto the freestyle. I would buy the skeletool if it didn't have that carabiner. Ifk why but I hate the look of it.
i hated it. still do at some level. but after years of ignoring the skeletool i finally changed my edc setup and it was the only option to pocket carry a multitool with pliers. i am so happy to have tries it because it s my edc now and i quite like it
Good presentation. 👍 My only gripe would be the carabiner /bottle opener. Takes up too much real estate and as useful as tits on a bull! You have the pocket clip and any flat surface will open a bottle. My mod would be to just cut that section off - now you're dancin!!
In general, a blade will cover most of my basic tasks so I only really carry a knife.. small sebenza. Otherwise, any tools I need are just a walk across the shop away, or in my backpack. I ride a motorcycle everywhere and assembled a little kit that covers pretty much anything I might have to fix or tighten up. Just lives in my pack which is always on me. Kit does include an old leatherman sideclip though.. I actually found it in the road while riding lol.
In town/at home, I prefer a combo of a small Spiderco Finch + Squirt. Both fit in the "fifth jeans pocket". I find the skeletool to be too heavy and big for me to always carry it on me.
I went the same way. Found the wave/Charge too big and heavy and switched to the Skeletool. I think the Squirt ps4 is also a good (smaller) alternative 🙂👍
Wave is heavy forsure, I found a leatherman charge tti a year ago in a parking lot, had been worn in but was in pretty good shape. Man oh man is that titanium Frame and s30v blade nice 😅 I was showing my friend my lucky find a few weeks later and he pulled our his wave. Felt like a damned brick in comparison. With the pocket clip I could easily edc the charge tti but the wave is just to heavy for that. Now I carry the charge tti with the same bit kit sheeth you got and I never go without
It's not worthless. Particularly when you keep in mind that some after-market hammer-style tools can be added to that space that don't even void the warranty!🙂
I never owned a leatherman till 2 weeks ago. I got the Blue/Green Skeletool Was a gift to myself for being 9 months sober. I cannot believe how much use i have got out of this bad boy. Congratulations on finding your strength, willpower & purpose to attain what you set as your goal to become sober. That’s so awesome! 👏🏼
Congratulations man! Thats an awesome accomplishment! May God bless you and He will be your strength!
Congrats bro! I hope you still going strong with sobriety. Slipping is normal, being able to get back to healthy is the main goal
Skeletool is like a pocket knife that happens to be a multitool. It's so comfortable and feels like a regular knife, but has the extras.
I absolutely agree. I also love its carabiner clip too, very few high-quality knives/tools have that feature.
lucky enough to have just been given an older skeletool cx with the carbon fiber from my dad, it's so comfortable and nicely weighty to hold as a knife. he'd wanted to give it to me when I was way younger but my mam hadn't let him lol. great knife/multitool
My favorite part about the skeletool is that when u use the screwdriver on something tight u can turn the handle 90 degrees and put torque on it
Most people prefer the cx model for it's 154cm blade but i prefer the original with the serrations because it gives you more cutting options.
"thats a cool thing....whatever" double blading!!! love it
I have the expensive charge al, which is fantastic, but it's heavy and bulky, so I hardly ever use it,, I've just ordered a Skeletool CX and I hope I'll carry it every day,, great video,, thanks,, 👍

I took the extension to an end mill and machined down a little farther the flat portion so it now fits with the handles closed
Great idea. I am definitely doing that.
Couldn’t agree more with this review - just bought a skeletool at Costco for 65$ & a bit kit - Loving it
I love my Wave, and have had it for over a decade now. But my EDC is defiantly my Skeletool. Everything that I need, and nothing that I don't!

You should look at some of the cheap small 22 magazine belt pouches, you can fit the Skeletool and bit kit in one item.
They're also horizontal belt mount which is a really nice option.
I have over 50 Leatherman multi tools 😃
ill take 1 or 5 from ya. I imagine your pockets must be heavier than a Cadillac lol
I work in maintenance, five years ago switched from Sidekick to Skeletool, amazing how many tasks it can do. Happy Recommend the extra bits but I don’t carry these every day.
10:03 hahaha lol ! Great review !

Nice review, I got one for my friend for his birthday. Can't go wrong with a Leatherman
I've had one of these for a couple of years. My only real niggle is that I wish the pocket clip was the other way up. Yeah, I can see that it would be difficult to engineer that way, but I have a short lanyard on it to give a bit more security in using the knife, and it would be really nice to have that at the top of my pocket for easy retrieval and the knife then the right way in my hand to open it.
skeletool came first by a bit, PS I use the fabric sheath you have for your wave with my skeletool cx
Truly excellent review...clear and concise. You mAde the case for the Skeletool! Well done sir 👍👍
I was pricing tools locally last week and the Skeletool is now $85.00
It wasn't worth the price at $40.00 - SMH
Anyway, good video. And, I am glad you like the tool.
i’ll give you a refund and buy yours for $40
Please review the very affordable Milwaukee Fast Back knife - it comes with a lockable screwdriver (which can use the Leatherman bit kit attachments) and one of the best wire belt clips you can find. Home Depot sells them for $20 on sale - Very light for everyday carry too.
What one person has no use for, another one is in love with it. That's basically the way the picture goes.
Dude! I'm left-handed too. No one believes me that so many tools and knives are not made for left-handed people to use well.
I’ve tried a few different leather and and always go back to my skeletool!
Great review, I have just been through a similar process, got the Wave now I am going for the Skeletool.
I’m able to get my Skeletool & bit kit in the nylon sheath that came with the tool. On the sides of the sheath I keep the bit extender & a flashlight.
Love the sheath for the bit kit, i wonder where i can find one like that
I agree with your selection completely
Like seeing all the positive reviews of the Skeletool since I just purchased one and waiting for it to be delivered. Where did you find the sheath for the bits?
Great video dude! Very educational!
I would love to take my Skeletool when traveling but because of the knife it wouldn't get through TSA obviously. Does anybody have any modifications to get it through TSA? I suppose I could just remove the blade altogether but a scissors or something else in its place would be great. Let me know what you all think. TY
I came to the same conclusion. But looking at the different products my main problem with multitools/ Swiss army is when would I use that tool?
BOND much better for edc, as with same weight has more tools which is much preferable then one hand opening
i like your reasoning
Do you have links for the bit kit sheath? You said it has an interior holder for the extension too. that's very cool. Great video!
Check out this Etsy item!
Hey, I found this really awesome Etsy listing at www.etsy.com/listing/250415880/leather-sheath-for-leatherman-wave-or

I wish they'd put the plier spring from the style on the skeletool and make a version with quality scissors instead of the knife.
They also make a hammer mod for this model. Worth a look up atleast.
Great video.
HA (has three Letherman's) "why do i have so many Letherman's?"
I didnt like the skeletool till i carried it lol i do want the hammer add on...scissors would be great
I love my skeletool, but Leatherman's screwdriver bits are half bits at best. Good luck with that! 😆
Can you post a link to the sockets and sheath? Great video!
I have over 50 Leatherman multi tools 😁😁!!!!
Nice video, thank you!
they should sell carbon fiber inserts that allow you to replace the tools you don't use inside the leatherman. keep the tool dense and strong while removing unnecessary weight. if i was a 3d printer i'd be on it, free idea for you guys reading the comments who have the equipment already!
If you are left handed you should find the video where a Wave is converted to the left. It gives you a unique wave and it works much, much better.
Lookup skinth if you want other sheath options that allow for carrying more in the one sheath 😉
great recommendation
Thanks for the video. Who made the leather sheaths? Where did you buy them?

Where did you that pouch for the bits?
Ifk why but I hate the look of it.
i hated it. still do at some level. but after years of ignoring the skeletool i finally changed my edc setup and it was the only option to pocket carry a multitool with pliers. i am so happy to have tries it because it s my edc now and i quite like it
Where did you get the sheath?
Etsy. See pervious comments. Thanks for subscribe
Looks like one from nays custom leather very nice sheats
Good point 👍
well thansk for sharin brother
My guy would hate the surge plus 1/2 of the waves weight making it 16oz
Yeah I got the Surge too.
It's a LOT of weight to carry at 12.5 oz!
Now I carry the charge tti with the same bit kit sheeth you got and I never go without
Why buy so many Leatherman? Because they make them.
6:18 Am I addicted to buying tools? Maybe. (Automatic Sub And Like)
Cut the worthless bottle opener off the skeletool and you’ve got the perfect EDC.
It's not worthless.
Particularly when you keep in mind that some after-market hammer-style tools can be added to that space that don't even void the warranty!🙂
Omg a lefties channel? Shouldn't there be 7 of us here? Deeeeerrrrrr I'm being corny
Skeletool is so poorly equipped that it can hardly be called "multitool". It's not worth a dime. The Rebar rules!
Where did you get those sheath?
