We Found and Installed the Most Affordable Heated Floor System

  • Hey Gang! Today we're installing the heated floor for the bathroom. Not a bank buster by any means and for the price and amount of work we think this system is more than worth it. Just like we found out during our install, maybe it's best to spend the extra money for more speed and ease of install!
LuxHeat called us when they received our order to make sure we had everything we needed for what we're trying to achieve and we just think that's awesome!
This is the system we used! amzn.to/3UHjMTA

I came here to make the same comment. These dudes have been over the top on the details on this house. You think they are going to install a backer board that's going to fail and ruin all the other time and effort they put in to save $500? I know it can seem like they are pushing products but at least you can assume it's not crap since they are literally installing it in their own house.

These guys may be legit BUT if you know how humans work, we tend to develop relationships with tv presenters. Once you develop a “trust” in your presenter, they can tell you almost anything and that bond grows stronger over time. It’s why mainstream tv news gave their top presenters entire “shows”. Once you have audience trust, you can sell them anything.

All I can say is this:
I know Paul and Jordan personally. I have worked with them all over Baton Rouge when they lived here. I've built cabinets for them, counters for them, borrowed tools, loaned tools to them, even travelled with them for a full and complete day to do work in New Orleans in a historic building that was not put on the channel.
This is a stand up family. ALL OF THEM. If they are showing or talking about a product, it is because they USE it, love it, and want to show the viewers innovative products that are cool, reliable, and fun. They are the furthest thing from a shill that you will ever find.
We all know that like Jordan said, the economy is TIGHT now. 4 years ago, it was a completely different story. I'll leave that right there. I would bet dollars to donuts that if anyone here had the opportunity to upgrade their materials, get materials and products for free or reduced cost, or try something out that hadn't been seen before, just for talking about it, they would do it in a heartbeat, and be stupid if they didn't.
What people forget is that this will be Jordan's HOME. It's not some set in a studio, it's not something they are building for someone else. There is absolutely no way Jordan and Paul would put an inferior product in his house just because they got a discount on it. High End Building takes high end dollars. None of are rich if you're in the trade and doing the work. The ends have to meet in the middle before the tank is empty.
    To Paul and Jordan,
Keep doing what you're doing. Those of us that know, already know. I'm proud to call you both friends, and enjoy everything that you do. I know there are tons of other people (over 612,000 of them actually) that feel the same way.

Not sure what you're talking about, 4 years ago, building products were at an all-time high, $58 for a 4x8 sheet of 15/32 osb, It's under $15 right now. Dimensional lumber was 4x higher than now. Jordan referenced this in a stud pack video back then when He showed a pile of cuts off 2x4s and called it a pile of gold. It was the absolute worst time to build or remodel a house.
Also, a trade war started by the president 4 years ago drove up prices on everything imported from china, which is almost everything.

The only sponsored placement I had a real issue with was the overly expensive hose bib. One can get a frost-free hose bib like a Woodford that's brass and will hold up to a lot of abuse from about $40. They used to be cheaper, but - inflation. I also think that bathroom fan will depressurize your house, but that's not an issue with the product, but how it's used, and in what kind of house.
What was really good about today's video was that you had a comparison of two systems, the installation involved, and the tradeoffs. What i got out of this was that for what you were doing, the Schluter system would have been more time efficient if you had been getting paid for installation, but that for a flat rectangular area, the mesh attached cable would have worked well. While it wasn't completely explicit, that's what I got out of what Paul said towards the end.
If the episodes using reduced price products were more upfront about the price point and what makes the product worth the extra cost, I would find that to be much more valuable. Some products cost more, but may be easier to install, may last longer, or may have better support from the vendor. Information like that helps your viewers to make their own decisions based on their circumstances. It would be even better if there was a followup after using a product for a year or two to see if you still would have made the same decision at usual contractor pricing for your house or a house that you are building for someone else, and why. How you would pitch that product as part of an estimate, and why someone should go with your higher bid that includes a superior product. Yes, we come for Paul's wide knowledge on how to install things, but how you pick the products is also important.

the people saying that you're selling out are just JEALOUS. I've found your channel from the shop build and watched every single other video you've made and never once have I thought that you're selling out. When companies provide you free/discounted stuff it's a business decision for them and for you. It's a no brainer. You also make it very apparent that you've tried said products and do truly believe in them and I believe you. I bought a water drop filter after seeing your video and it's life changing. If it weren't I'd have sent y'all an email about it for your opinion. You consistently say that viewers love that you show your mistakes and fix them and I have no doubt that if something you bought were to break we would be the first to know. Don't let the haters get to you. It's clear when people are paid for their opinions and when they are not and you guys are 100% genuine. The issue with putting yourself on the internet is that there will always be the 1% that feels some type of way about what you're doing and how you're doing it. Part of what I appreciate about this channel project is the "stone soup" aspect of a guy with nothing but his dad and a camera, building up bit by bit in skill and popularity, until you can make an entire house. How dare you sell out by… doing your literal career. You’re not just builders/contractors, you’re entertainers. You’ve provided me with countless hours of entertaining videos and neat tricks while also doing great work for others and now yourself. I definitely think you’ve been clear when you are sponsored and don’t have anything to apologize for. Keep doing your thing and I will keep watching. Some people just like to complain about things. If you didn’t talk about the brand or product they would probably complain about not being able to replicate it because you don’t share that. As long as you continue to be honest and transparent about what is and isn’t sponsored you’re golden.

    Two things….
1.) Don’t let the babies living in their daddy’s basements, eating pizza rolls, drinking red bulls, gaming n watching videos all night, jobless pansies dictate what you decide to do on YOUR house.
2.) the bucket idea is GAME CHANGING!! Have a small remodeling company here in Houston and the bag of leveler definitely needs about another gallon of space!
We have watched the channel since the beginning and look forward to each episode, my lil boy and I watch together, love you guys!

There isn't a channel on RUclipss home space that has the ability to explain a process like Stud Pack. Most channels the host tells you why YOU need this and why YOU should buy that exact product. Stud Pack says "We want to do this, this is what we choose that fits our needs. Here is why we choose this product". So much more informative! This economy is crazy, and product is expensive. Nothing wrong with saving a few dollars for products you're going to use anyway. A dollar saved today helps the next project.

I put heated floors in my main bathroom when it was redone along with many other “luxuries” as the house was upgraded. The only reason it was possible to do was because we did the work ourselves. When you’re not paying labor you can upgrade your materials.

Just this week: the six gallon bucket trick, rounding off a drywall knife, and heck, pants with built in knee pads… all reasons why your videos are must-watch. Even your sponsored products make for an interesting story. I think everybody knows by now that you can watch a hundred instructional videos on how to install heated floors step by step, but your videos are so compelling because you all are learning and teaching along the way. Keep up the outstanding work and see ya on the next one.

I installed electric floor heating in my house in three rooms. The dining room/kitchen areas and also the first floor bathroom. The big area kitchen and dining room areas incorporates a 220 volt system because of the size of the area, and a 110 volt system. I used the mat by Schluter systems along with their heating system. I have the touch screen thermostat also in both systems. It is a nice addition to the old house that I live in with my wife. We are in our sixties and enjoy the comfort that the systems provide during the winter months, November thru March. I was very happy with the Schluter system as the mat made an easy install along with the heating wire which is designed for the area size of the flooring usage. The heating wire is embedded into a concrete base underneath an engineered composite flooring system. That means I didn’t use ceramic tiles for either the kitchen/dining room or bathroom areas.
I myself would not have used any heating underneath the shower floor as the hot water would be enough to keep your feet warm. Don’t forget that the floor heat is always on until you turn it off by either programmable thermostat for the times you aren’t in the area or turning it off for the warmer seasons so it’s not wasting electricity during the warmer months. Remember when the temperature was in the 100’s last year when you were building the framing? It takes time to heat the floor to your comfort level.
I did add another temperature sensor in case the primary one were to take a dump/break.

I think it made a difference because it was a DIY job, where the time wasn't important because it wasn't paid labor. If this was a floor-mounted toilet and a floor-standing vanity, it would have been even more time consuming. It was still valuable to see the process to understand where this product makes sense, and where it doesn't. If this wasn't done in the shower, it would have been a great product.

    • @Kevern70
      @Kevern70 13 дней назад +1

This isn’t “DIY” in that sense of the word. Do you think they’re all working for free off savings? They get paid on completing content and publishing. The more time freed up for editing, the smoother the delivery and income.
If you forget that Time is Money, DIY makes it always better. But remember, economically, DIY means time away from other endeavors. And therefore money away from you (because you could have that time/money for yourself).

7:40 - "Adherence" is a word, but you probably meant "adhesion."
Most of the product placements make sense, and you seem honest in your feedback, which I think is very much the opposite of "selling out."
I do miss the remodeling videos though - the dream garage build is great, but seeing the insides of different older houses and how they're built is cool AF.

If it is a good product, something you want to use, and the company wants to get some exposure, then there is nothing wrong and you should keep doing it. I would! Only a loser troll would complain about a win-win-win situation. I've seen a few products on this project that I have saved for my mountain cabin house I'm designing. Incorporating these products and manufacturers is one thing I actually like about your videos. Hi from Austin!
